Chapter 374, Section 371: Snape: There's a mole, terminate the deal.
The professors had been searching the castle until late into the night, but still found nothing.
Even if they don't discover it, they can't let the students sleep in the auditorium forever.
Just as Dumbledore approached Cedric, who was a member of the executive committee, to tell the students to return to their common room that morning, Snape found Dumbledore with a sour face.
"Do you remember our conversation when school started, Dumbledore?" Snape said, his lips barely moving, as if trying to keep Cedric from hearing their conversation.
"Remember, Severus," Dumbledore's voice carried a warning tone.
"It seems that without inside help, it's almost impossible for Blake to get in, as I mentioned before..."
"I don't believe anyone inside the castle would help Black get in," Dumbledore said clearly, ending the conversation, leaving Snape with nothing to add.
"I'm going to look for Lynn." Dumbledore left the Great Hall. "He's searching the astronomy classroom on the top floor of the castle, but we haven't found anything there yet."
Harry, who was pretending to be asleep, overheard their entire conversation.
He could only understand half of what Snape said. According to Snape, Black seemed to have some kind of inside man at Hogwarts, but Dumbledore did not believe that anyone would help him.
It was already past four in the morning when Harry finally succumbed to sleepiness and drifted off to sleep. Even before he fell asleep, he was still thinking about who the person Snape called a traitor really was.
At the same time, Lynn was not searching the castle's astronomical tower as Dumbledore had said; he was standing in front of the blind, hunchbacked old witch, listening to her tell him in a strange way how Sirius Black crawled out and left through the secret passage on his back.
"Hehehe, hehehehe"
She seemed to be programmed to only make this one sound, but miraculously, Lynn could understand what she was trying to say.
After listening to her story, Lynn nodded.
"If he wants to come in through your place again next time, just report to me. There's no need to stop him."
The statue of the blind, hunchbacked old witch nodded, indicating that she understood, and returned to its original position.
Lynn did intend to capture Sirius, but he didn't expect to do so so soon.
Old John's side has not yet fully consolidated the power of the board of directors.
Within the Ministry of Magic, Barty Crouch was merely impeached and temporarily suspended; he still held the position of Director of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement.
Besides, he wasn't the only one from those pure-blood families within the department.
Currently, with Lynn's support, Fudge's forces are engaged in a tug-of-war with the pure-blood families within the ministry, and there is no way to achieve any results in the short term.
However, judging from the current situation, Fudge still has the upper hand because with the money bag Lynn gave him, he can spend money almost without limit to win over the officials who were originally neutral.
But the pure-blood families were in a different situation; all their businesses went bankrupt.
Although there is still a considerable amount of money left in Gringotts' vault for a final resting place, this money really is only for a final resting place.
If they spend it all, these families will really be left destitute.
Lynn will only make his move to capture Sirius after the situation outside becomes clearer and more stable.
For now, we can let this black dog continue to frolic for a while longer.
After the Gryffindor common room was invaded, the professors and upperclassmen disciplinary committee searched the castle almost from top to bottom but could not find any trace of Black.
In the end, they could only guess that Black had escaped Hogwarts Castle and sent the students back to their dormitories to sleep.
Even after the attack, life at Hogwarts still goes on.
However, three days after the intrusion, Professor McGonagall summoned Harry to her office.
"Potter, there's no point in hiding it from you anymore," she said seriously. "I know this will shock you greatly. But Sirius Black—"
“I knew he was coming for me,” Harry said wearily. “I overheard Ron’s dad talking to his mom. Mr. Weasley works at the Ministry of Magic.”
Professor McGonagall seemed startled.
She stared at Harry for a moment and then said, "I see. In that case, Potter, you should know it's not a good idea for you to practice at the Quidditch pitch at night. There are only your six teammates on the pitch, and no one is watching you. You'll be in danger."
These days, almost every time he walks down the castle corridor, a professor follows him. It's not on anyone's orders; it's entirely the professors' own initiative. They all know who Black escaped from Azkaban for.
But Harry was really fed up with this kind of life.
"Our first match starts on Saturday," he said, somewhat angrily. "Professor, we have to practice. Next, we'll be playing against Slytherin, and although we're currently ahead in points, that's precisely why we need to maintain our advantage!"
Professor McGonagall thought about it carefully. Harry knew she cared a lot about the future of the Gryffindor team, after all, it was she who suggested that he join the team as the Seeker.
He held his breath and waited, when an unexpected voice rang out in front of Professor McGonagall's office door.
"I don't think you need to restrict Harry's freedom like this, Professor McGonagall."
Lynn stood in front of the office door with a piece of parchment in his hand. He shrugged. "Sorry, I didn't mean to eavesdrop, but the door is definitely not closed."
Professor McGonagall stood up; the Quidditch pitch outside the window was faintly visible in the rain.
"Of course I'd like Harry to go to training, but Black's danger hasn't ended yet. Perhaps having a professor watch over them would be a good idea; Mrs. Hooch might be willing to do that."
Professor McGonagall eventually agreed to let Harry attend Quidditch training, but Mrs. Hooch had to be there to supervise him.
Harry waited outside Lynn's office until Lynn finished discussing things with Professor McGonagall before leaving with him.
"Thank you for speaking up for me, Lynn," Harry said gratefully.
"It's nothing. Even if I hadn't come, Professor McGonagall would probably have agreed to let you practice on the field anyway. After all, she values the Gryffindor Quidditch team a lot, doesn't she?"
Lynn waved to Harry: "You'd better hurry up and get ready. I heard that our Quidditch team has already asked Hufflepuff to switch venues. They're using Malfoy's still-healing arm as an excuse to avoid this rainy weather."
