"No, no, I didn't betray my master. I was just building up my strength. I never believed my master would be defeated," Malfoy stammered.
He was afraid.
It's only natural to be afraid.
Every Death Eater who had followed Voldemort was terrified of their master from the bottom of their hearts.
They all knew that the Dark Lord would not tolerate any betrayal!
"Since there has been no betrayal, then you must prove your loyalty to the Dark Lord!"
A dramatic change is taking place within the British wizarding world, but it has nothing to do with the students attending classes at Hogwarts.
As Halloween approached, the atmosphere in the castle grew increasingly cheerful, but Harry's mood was anything but cheerful.
They are in third grade this year, and third-grade students can go out during Hogsmeade Week as long as they have a parent's signed consent form.
Harry has always wanted to go to that place.
He could have gone, since his guardians were now Ron's parents, the Weasleys, but after careful consideration, Mr. Weasley chose not to sign Harry's consent form.
Because Sirius Black had escaped from Azkaban, Mr. Weasley believed that there was no safer place in the world than Hogwarts, and that Harry might be in danger if he left the protective perimeter of Hogwarts.

Although Harry wasn't happy with the result, he eventually accepted it.
The Weasleys also assured Harry that as soon as news of Sirius Black's arrest reached the wizarding world, they would immediately send a signed consent form to Hogwarts.
The first Hogsmeade Week of the semester falls on the day before Halloween.
Harry reluctantly waved goodbye to Ron and Hermione, and could only stay in the castle to chat with Professor Lupin in his office.
Hermione didn't go to Hogsmeade with Ron either, because she had made plans with Lynn to go shopping in town a week earlier.
"Didn't you tell me last semester that there wasn't much fun in Hogsmeade? Then why did you come out with me today?"
The streets of the small town were filled with young wizards from Hogwarts, and Hermione and Lynn strolled along the streets, asking questions with delight.
Although they were supposedly just strolling around, Lynn was actually leading the way after they left the castle, but Hermione's mind wasn't on where they were going at all.
Lynn pointed to the Honey Duke candy store in the distance, where a large crowd had gathered, and said with a cheerful expression.
"I saw in the newspaper a few days ago that Honey Duke recently released a new product called milk gummies. Their photos are really good, so I decided to check it out to see how it tastes."
Although she was already used to Lynn's lack of romantic understanding, Hermione still couldn't help but sulk, inwardly cursing him for his utterly unpleasant words.
"Looks like there are a lot of people. Let's hurry up and get in line. If they sell out, my trip will have been for nothing." Lynn said as he pulled Hermione's arm and jogged toward Honeydukes Candy Store.
Seeing his hand gripping her wrist, Hermione's mood suddenly improved.
That's how a little girl's mood is; sometimes, the difference between thunder and lightning and clear skies is only a few seconds.
Lynn and his group arrived early and were lucky enough to get a good spot near the front of the line.
The students in front of them saw Lynn and made way for him to go first. But Lynn said with a straight face that no one was special and that even if Dumbledore came today, he would have to wait in line. Only then did the young wizards smile sheepishly and line up in front of him.
The new fudge tasted really good; even though Hermione thought it was too sweet, Lynn still bought a whole paper bag of it.
Even if he loves sweets, he definitely couldn't finish all of these, and half of them were to be bought for Umaru.
Of course, Lynn wouldn't give her all at once; she would only give her a little bit each week.
Ugh! I was just stringing her along on purpose, just playing around!
Clutching the candy in their hands, Lynn and Hermione's stroll through the streets was now a true leisurely walk.
No, not really, because he kept peeking around as if he was looking for something.
In the sky above Hogsmeade, a black raven circled in mid-air, and every place within its sight came into its view.
However, Hermione did not notice Lynn's unusual behavior and continued chatting with him.
"Professor Lupin's classes are really good. I'm not saying he's better than you, but compared to Professor Quirrell, his Defense Against the Dark Arts class is much more interesting. Even Harry and Ron, who always hated classes, are starting to look forward to it."
"The Prophecy class is terrible. I really don't understand why Hogwarts even has a Prophecy class. I'm not denying prophecy, but I carefully searched for all the relevant information about prophecy in the library, and all I got was one message—the ability to prophesy is almost impossible to cultivate later in life. What's innate is innate, and the Prophecy class the school is currently offering is just a mess."
"Professor Snape's temper seems to be getting worse and worse. I know you two are very close, but I have to say he's really not a likeable person at all. He has absolutely no patience when teaching Potions to Gryffindor, and Neville has been made to cry by him many times."
Lynn was multitasking, listening to Hermione talk about things at school while also making his own discoveries.
The raven that had been flying over Hogsmeade landed on the roof of a house and stood there quietly, staring at a large black dog lying dozing deep in an alley.
Lynn led Hermione into the Three Broomsticks pub, which surprised Hermione.
"You're already hungry before noon?"
Ms. Rosmerta, the owner of Lynn's Bar, ordered a steak that could be cooked to any doneness and then came out with Hermione in the bag.
"This isn't for me to eat. I just saw a really interesting animal and wanted to feed it." Lynn smiled, her eyes narrowing.
Hermione looked on with curiosity. She clearly remembered that the two of them hadn't seen any animals other than birds in the sky along the way.
But Lynn led her into a secluded alley, where a large, jet-black dog lay in the shadows of a house, out of the sunlight.
Upon seeing it, Hermione instinctively hugged Lynn's arm tightly.
"This dog looks fierce."
The big black dog also saw them, its eyes flashing with a ferocious light as it bared its sharp fangs and let out a dangerous growl.
Lynn didn't care at all; he simply put the steak in his hand on the ground.
"That's how homeless dogs are. If it dares to be aggressive towards you, I'll hit it with a steak."
