Chapter 355, Section 352: Umaru Charging Forward
"Next, please welcome Professor Dumbledore, Headmaster of Hogwarts, to give a speech as the ambassador for this Sunshine Sports Week!"
The athletes from the four houses stood in formation on the green grass of the Quidditch field, with the mascots of the four houses standing in front of them, and four young wizards holding the Hogwarts flag directly in front of them.
Dumbledore stood in the stands and watched this scene with a chuckle.
"This is arguably the first time Hogwarts has held such a large-scale event since the Triwizard Tournament was cancelled. I hope this sports meet will help you understand that wizards not only need extensive knowledge and mastery of profound magic, but also a strong physique. So I wish everyone the best of luck in achieving their desired results. I won't nag any longer; have fun these next two days!"
Immediately, loud cheers erupted throughout the Quidditch arena. What the young wizards of Hogwarts liked most about Dumbledore was that he never rambled on when they least wanted to hear his long-winded speeches.
After the principal finished speaking, there was supposed to be a speech by the chairman, but Lynn didn't want to say anything unnecessary, so he canceled that part of the speech.
So after Dumbledore finished speaking, the sports meet officially began.
Below the stands, a dozen or so referees from the Department of Arts and Sports, wearing red hats, walked into the stadium, while Professor Huo Qi, the professor of the Flight Course, hovered in the sky on a flying broomstick.
"Now, all first-year athletes, please remain! Second-year students, please take your positions in the waiting area around the stands. All other students, please return to your respective college's stands. The first-year matches are about to begin. All irrelevant personnel, please leave immediately!"
Lady Hooch held up her wand, which had been used with an amplification spell, and hovered in mid-air, giving instructions to the young wizards below.
These rules are already known to all the athletes who participated in the competition. Today, the competitions for grades one through four will be held, with two grades participating each in the morning and afternoon. The competitions for grades five through seven will be held on the second day, and there will be a team competition after the seventh grade competition.
The older students were leaving one by one, while Lynn was in a corner of the court helping Umaru tie her hair up.
"Be careful when you run later. Just do your best and don't try to win. I had a classmate in a Muggle elementary school who broke his kneecap because he ran too hard in a sprint race."
Umaru looked horrified: "Bones can move? How fast must his legs be?!"
"Although this is a magic school, and even if you break your leg, Madam Pomfrey can immediately reattach it so you can continue competing, you'll still be the one who suffers the pain when you get injured. You also signed up for shot put, right? I'll have to tell the shot put referee to be careful and not get hit by your shot."
"How could that be! I'm the most accurate thrower!"
Umaru retorted defiantly.
Hermione waved to Lynn from afar: "We should go, Lynn."
Lynn patted Xiaomai's hair, which she had tied into a neat single ponytail, one last time: "Okay, go on, I wish you good luck."
After Lynn left, Umaru immediately ran happily to the track like a playful puppy, ready to start the first 100-meter sprint race.
Hermione and Lynn walked side by side onto the stands, and she asked worriedly.
"Aren't you being a little too protective of Umaru? This will make her overly dependent on you in the future."
Lynn couldn't help but laugh as she looked at Umaru, who had taken off her school uniform and was wearing short sleeves and shorts underneath, reporting to the referee.
"If I don't take care of her, then there really won't be anyone in this world who will treat her like family. The first half of her childhood wasn't happy, and I just hope that in the rest of her childhood, she won't have to think about so much and can live a happier life."
"Sophia Bashark, player number S106, a first-year student in Slytherin."
Umaru stood properly in front of the referee and announced her name.
The sixth-grade referee put a checkmark next to her name and then closed the roster.
"Alright, you're the last one here, so all four first-year girls participating in the 100-meter sprint are here now."
He waved, like a kindergarten teacher leading children across the street, and led Umaru and three other first-year girls from different schools onto the track.
"G104, you stand on the innermost side; R107, stand here; S106, you are here; and finally, H104, stand on the outermost side."
After everyone's positions were arranged, the referee also stood on the grass.
The sides of the track were filled with first-year students who were going to participate in other competitions, and they were all cheering on their classmates.
As the referee raised his wand high, the stands erupted in noise.
The timekeeper at the finish line waved his wand, signaling to the referee at the starting line that everything was ready.
"You will start running after my wand makes an explosion, but be careful not to run on other people's tracks. If anyone jumps ahead or runs on other people's tracks, their results will be disqualified."
After giving them a final reminder of the important points, the referee shouted, "Ready!"
None of the four little witches, including Umaru, adopted the crouching start position. Instead, they all nervously gripped their wands, waiting for the signal to sound.
"Bang!"
A crisp, loud explosion rang out from the referee's wand, and the next moment, all four little witches simultaneously cast spells on themselves.
"Yugadimur Leviosa!" ×4.
It's no secret at Hogwarts that people use levitation charms to reduce their weight and increase their running speed during races.
Or rather, every young wizard could think of using this method to bless themselves, and for first-year students who had only attended Hogwarts for a month, this was the only spell they could use right now.
But after the other three little witches ran off with light steps, Umaru calmly continued to hold her wand and cast a transformation spell on her shoes.
She turned the soles of her shoes into springs!
With all preparations complete, Umaru's right leg, which was lagging behind, suddenly exerted force, and she shot out like an arrow!
The summer breeze that pierced through her hair lifted her white ponytail, and Sophia easily overtook the other three little witches from the academy, running straight towards the finish line!
