Chapter 327

The silvery-white substance produced by the Guardian Charm is extremely lethal to Dementors.

The last Dementor in the carriage fled in panic under the silvery-white light.

"Lynn!" Hermione, who was being protected behind the middle-aged man, called out the name of the newcomer with surprise.

Lin En blinked at her, then shook hands with the down-on-his-luck wizard who was holding his wand in a daze.

"Professor Lupin? I've heard so much about you, I've heard so much about you."

Lupin then came to his senses, looked at Lynn, and shook his head with a wry smile.

"I don't have any great reputation that Professor Belloc has heard much about, but I did hear a lot about you when I was preparing to take over your position."

"I stepped down as a professor last semester," Lynn shrugged. "Just call me Lynn."

They exchanged a few brief words, then walked over to Harry Potter, who had been helped up from the ground by Ron and Hermione, and checked on his condition.

"It's nothing serious. He just had some emotions drained by the Dementors, and he was already quite stressed, so he fainted. You can carry him into the carriage; he'll wake up soon." Lynn assessed Harry's condition, which relieved Ron and Hermione.

Lupin pulled a large piece of chocolate from his pocket and handed it to Hermione.

"Let him eat this after he wakes up; it should make him feel better."

After he finished speaking, he looked at Lynn.

"I need to go see the train conductor to check on the situation. Do you want to come with me?"

Lynn waved his hand and said, "You're the professor, you can't expect a student like me to handle things, can you? This is your job as adults. My sister has a fever and I need to go back and take care of her. See you when we get back to Hogwarts."

Watching Lynn's departing figure, Lupin shook his head and smiled.

Knowing from rumors about what Lynn had done, and based on his first impression of him, Lupin easily placed Lynn on an equal footing with himself. But the truth was just as Lynn had said.

He was just a 15-year-old boy.

Lynn returned to the carriage, and Xiaomai's condition seemed much better than when he left.

Although he was still a little dazed, at least his fever had subsided; Snape's miracle drug was indeed reliable.

"What happened outside?" Cedric and Ian looked at Lynn with suspicion.

Lynn said casually, "A few Dementors came, trying to take advantage of the situation to get on the bus for a meal, but I chased them away."

Ian looked bewildered; he didn't know what a Dementor was, but Cedric knew just how terrifying that thing was.

British magic laws do not include the death penalty, but the Dementor's kiss is the only exception, as it is far more terrifying than death itself.

"How did you drive them away? I heard from my dad that ordinary spells don't work on them at all," Cedric asked incredulously.

"The Patronus Charm, this charm is the bane of Dementors. I suggest you practice this charm more this year. These ghostly creatures don't seem to listen to you and could break into Hogwarts at any time."

Cedric looked at Lynn with a sullen expression, unsure whether he was in Versailles or genuinely unaware that the Patronus Charm was a curse that Hogwarts students simply couldn't learn.

Not long after, the train started moving again, and after about two hours they finally arrived at Hogwarts Station.

A cold rain was falling outside, and the air was so cold it felt like it could freeze the raindrops on the ground.

Lynn was putting thick clothes on Xiaomai.

"I've already written to Madam Pomfrey, and she's waiting for you at the school. She'll decide whether you should continue with the Sorting Ceremony after she checks on you. But you still have to walk your own path to Hogwarts; it's a tradition, and no student is an exception."

Umaru wrinkled her nose and stood obediently in place while Lynn dressed her up as a penguin.

"I feel I'm all better now, and I don't need Mrs. Pomfrey to treat me anymore. I can totally go to the Sorting Ceremony with the new students."

"Let Mrs. Pomfrey take a look. It would be bad if your cold wasn't sudden but rather some kind of flu."

Lynn cast a waterproof spell on Umaru and was about to conjure up another umbrella for her when Ian handed Umaru his own black umbrella, which he always carried with him.

Umaru swayed as she opened the black umbrella, and then, one by one, the freshmen, soaked to the bone, gathered around Hagrid.

Lynn and the others each cast waterproof spells on themselves before boarding the Thestrals' carriage.

"I thought the jailers you were talking about were also wizards."

The Thestrals led them to the gates of Hogwarts, where two Dementors dressed in black robes stood guard. Ian, seeing such creatures for the first time, murmured in amazement.

Just as the carriages carrying the students were about to enter the school, a large group of Dementors suddenly blocked the main gate of the castle.

The invisible Thestrals seemed startled and let out an uneasy neighing.

A young wizard poked his head out of the carriage, wanting to see what was happening.

At this moment, Professor Lupin, the only professor among the students, jumped down from the carriage and walked in front of the Dementors. After exchanging a few words with the monsters, he found the carriage where Lynn was.

"They said that during the search of the train just now, someone killed one of their companions, so they're blocking the students from going in to try and catch the murderer. Should you handle this, or should I contact Professor Dumbledore at the castle directly?"

Lynn didn't say anything more at this point, that he was just a student and that this was the professor's job.

After all, he had indeed killed one Dementor, and he didn't care if these ghostly creatures wanted to cause him trouble. He also wanted to take this opportunity to say a few words to the Dementors.

"Is their leader here now?"

Lynn jumped down from the carriage, and Lupin pointed to the one standing at the very front of the group of Dementors. It was much taller than the other Dementors, comparable to Hagrid, though not as muscular.

"That's him."

Lynn walked up to the Dementors under the watchful eyes of the young wizards, squinting as he looked up at the leader of the Dementors.

"You were looking for me?"

Dementors all wear a black hood over their heads, and no photos of their true faces have ever surfaced. Lynn even doubted whether there was a face under that hood at all.

What is certain is that Dementors also possess their own independent consciousness and can communicate with wizards in an unscientific yet magical way.
