Chapter 25.025. The Snot Curse
Chapter 25.025. The Snot Curse
Professor Fox's first lesson was very effective.
At least, when class ended, Lynn saw smiles on the faces of the young wizards.
Lynn also received extra points in this class as she had hoped.
Because he was the first young wizard among the freshmen of both houses to successfully unleash the wand lamp.
Wednesday's classes are relatively relaxed. Apart from the Defense Against the Dark Arts class in the morning, there is only the Astronomy class in the evening, leaving a large amount of free time for the young wizards to use as they wish.
Lynn didn't spend this free time in the library as usual. Instead, she took her Defense Against the Dark Arts textbook, "Dark Magic: A Guide to Self-Defense," and went to the lawn by the Black Lake.
It's still during class time, and there's no one here.
Lynn opened his textbook, simultaneously donning one of his only two titles: the new recruit.
Although the name doesn't sound good, the effect is surprisingly useful. It can increase the learning efficiency of basic spells by three times, allowing Lynn to quickly learn and use many spells taught to lower-grade students.
It's not really suitable for use in crowded places, especially in the Slytherin common room.
Although the atmosphere at Slytherin seems pretty good right now, people's hearts are unpredictable.
Who knows whether that friendliness is genuine or just a superficial facade?
Lynn didn't want to test other people's attitudes towards her; even a gesture of goodwill was better than a complete falling out.
So he deliberately found a secluded place, put on the title, and began practicing magic alone.
Only this kind of visible progress can make Lynn feel a little more at ease living in the not-so-safe magical world.
The title has a fantastic effect.
After wearing it, Lynn immediately felt his mind become exceptionally active, and his brain had never had such strong control over his body.
He looked at the spell recorded in the textbook: the Snot Curse, a spell that makes the person hit keep having a runny nose.
It has virtually no offensive power, but it's disgusting enough.
Following the description in the book, Lynn waved his wand and whispered the spell to a frog by the lake: "Mucus ad Nauseam (The flow never stops)."
However, anything happened.
But Lynn was not discouraged at all, because the moment he uttered the incantation, he sensed that his spell had no chance of success.
His brain was telling him with perfect clarity that he needed to swing his staff faster, and that the pronunciation of the incantation was not precise enough.
So Lynn used the Snot Spell again on the frog, who was completely unaware that it had become a test subject:
"Mucus ad Nauseam (The flow never stops)."
A bright green beam shot out from Lynn's wand and struck the frog that was standing there in a daze on the shore.
The frog was startled and croaked before jumping into the lake.
Lynn laughed silently. It was obvious that his spell had worked. The frog didn't have a runny nose because it simply didn't have that ability. If the spell had hit a person, it would have had the intended effect.
Before lunch, Lynn stayed by the Black Lake practicing various spells, and the feeling of constantly enriching himself was very addictive.
In just half a morning, he learned three spells recorded in the Defense Against the Dark Arts textbook: the Snot Curse, the Repel Curse, and the Smoke Curse.
These spells are not powerful magic, but they can have unexpected effects in certain situations.
……
There is no good food in Britain.
Lynn actually agrees with this statement, but in Europe, there is a lot of interaction between countries and cultural barriers are quite blurred, which is especially evident in the realm of food.
British salted fish isn't very good, but French food is quite delicious.
Lynn really enjoyed the cooking of the house-elves at Hogwarts, and the lunch was just what he wanted.
Just as he was having lunch, Prefect Betty sat down next to him.
"Hi, Lynn, are you free this afternoon? Professor Snape needs someone to help him process some potion ingredients. All the other students have classes this afternoon."
Lynn shook her head: "Sorry, I have an appointment this afternoon."
Betty frowned slightly.
"May I ask who it is?"
"Professor Fox." Lynn had no intention of hiding it. He figured he would be using Professor Fox's name to borrow books from the restricted section of the library in the future, so the connection couldn't be kept secret.
Betty patted Lynn on the shoulder to make him look at her. She stared into Lynn's eyes, her tone very serious.
"Remember what I said at the opening banquet? Adrian Fox is a very dangerous man, and I don't recommend you get too close to him."
"Of course I remember."
Lynn had almost finished eating, and he picked up a napkin to wipe his mouth.
"Thank you for your concern. I will keep your advice in mind and be careful when I'm with Professor Fox. Goodbye."
Betty watched Lynn walk away, then clenched her fist and slammed it on the long table in a fit of frustration. She could tell that Lynn hadn't listened to a word she said.
Lynn didn't really pay much attention to what the prefect said. She had seen a lot of rumors on the internet in her previous life. Normal people would have their own judgment on things and wouldn't be swayed by what others said.
As it stands, Lynn still doesn't think Professor Fox is the heinous, deranged killer they've described.
In the afternoon, Lynn knocked on the door of Professor Fox's office.
"Come in, Lynn," Professor Fox's voice came from inside, and Lynn pushed open the door and went in.
The office wasn't large, but it was very tidy, which was completely unbecoming of Fox's status as an older, single man.
Lynn walked to his desk and saw that Professor Fox seemed to be working on lesson plans for an upperclassman course.
"Make yourself at home. I just moved into this office not long ago, so I don't have much afternoon tea or snacks to offer you."
Lynn found a chair and sat down, curiously examining a mural hanging on the wall.
It was a knight holding a long spear, and the warhorse beneath him was glaring at Lynn, its nostrils flared.
"How are you settling in at Hogwarts these past few days?"
Professor Fox put down his quill, crossed his hands on the table, and asked with a smile.
Lynn pinched his cheeks with a worried expression: "The food at Hogwarts is so good, I feel like I've gained a lot of weight."
Professor Fox was amused by his words, and at the same time, two teacups jumped out of the cabinet next to them and ran to the two of them.
The teapot on the table suddenly floated up and landed on the teacup in front of Lynn, filling it with black tea.
Professor Fox looked at Lynn intently.
"You've been exposed to magic for a few days now, and you've also heard some things about me from your classmates. So, Lynn, are you still willing to accept my investment in you?"
