Chapter 229, Section 227: Dumbledore's Scandalous Old Lover

Chapter 230, Section 227: Dumbledore's Scandalous Old Lover

Lynn stayed at the Pig's Head Bar until evening, spending little money but hearing a lot of messy stories.

Later on, all the proper legends and stories were told by those who came before, so those who came after started making things up.

What? Hogsmeade used to be a graveyard, and you could find human bones just by digging a meter or two underground. And then there's the audacious Voldemort who even dared to fabricate a story, saying that it was once occupied by a mysterious figure who hid a vast fortune of gold and silver there as a backup plan for his downfall and escape.

This fabricated story was indeed related to the location of the treasure, but it was so fake that Lynn felt like he was being treated like a fool, and in the end, he kicked him out without giving him a single penny.

Even more outrageous is the claim that Hogsmeade is actually home to one of Dumbledore's old flames, an old witch who takes care of the owls at the Owl Post Office!

The man swore he had personally witnessed the greatest wizard in England having afternoon tea with that old witch. Lynn immediately offered to give him the thousand Galleons if he would go to Hogwarts with him to tell Dumbledore about it in person.

The man eventually slunk away, not daring to approach Dumbledore, fearing he might have the money but not the chance to spend it.

No matter how famous Hogsmeade is in England, it is still just a wizarding town with a permanent population of less than a thousand. It has only accumulated so many legends over the past thousand years. Ten of them would be considered quite a lot, and only two of them were useful to Lynn in a single day.

One story is about a prisoner-of-war camp left behind after the goblins occupied Hogsmeade. Another story is about a door in a house in Hogsmeade. The house behind that door is fine, but whoever touches the doorknob will be taken to an unknown place.

The person who told Lynn the second legend was an old witch. She had a large nose and a sinister smile, and she looked like the kind of evil witch in fairy tales who liked to turn handsome princes into frogs and beautiful princesses into black men.

She couldn't verify the truth of the legend; she was just telling what she knew, and she didn't care whether Lynn paid her or not.

Lynn eventually gave her a coin, as a token of her care for the elderly woman.

Because most people's stories were too fabricated, Lynn didn't spend much money. The biggest expense of the day was actually the venue rental fee for the Pighead Bar owner, Aberforth.

Lynn chased away the last wizard who was trying to swindle money from him by making up stories, finished his third butterbeer of the day, stood up from his chair, and stretched.

"Will you come again tomorrow?" Aberforth looked at Lynn with expectant eyes.

He really hoped Lynn wouldn't come, so he would only waste one day of business time but make the same amount of money he would earn in a year.

Lynn shook her head.

"I'm not coming. The valuable stories have already been told by the first few people. The rest are just made-up and a waste of my time."

"And the remaining balance for the entire venue booking."

Lynn took out a money pouch and placed it on the table: "Since I promised, you'll get your share."

Unlike his brother, Aberforth was not a cunning old fox; he was more straightforward and had a fiery temper.

"That's fair, don't worry. I won't take advantage of you for nothing. I've taken care of the person who threatened you at the beginning of today, although it seems like you don't need my help."

One hundred Galleons is nothing to Lynn, not even pocket money. Besides, he's Dumbledore's younger brother, and his strength is definitely not weak. Just consider it money to buy a friendship.

Lynn turned to leave the Pig's Head Bar. He didn't plan to stay there that night. Judging from Aberforth's hygiene habits, the bedding in the second-floor guest room hadn't been changed in who knows how long.

Just as he was about to walk out of the bar, Aberforth, who was wiping the bar counter with a tattered rag, suddenly called out to him again.

"You want to know the secrets of Hogsmeade?"

Lynn stopped abruptly, raised an eyebrow, and turned to look at the old man who smelled strongly of mutton.

"Do you have a story you'd like to tell me?"

Aberforth shook his head: "I'm just an old geezer who runs a tavern here, and I'm not even a native of Hogsmeade. How would I know much about the stories of Hogsmeade? But I can recommend someone for you to find."

"Who?"

"It's Rose Daniels, the keeper at the Owl Post Office, whom that person mentioned today as Dumbledore's old flame."

Lynn's eyes widened in surprise. He hadn't expected that this fictional old lover of Dumbledore was actually a real person!

"Is she really Hogwarts Headmaster Dumbledore's secret old flame? But I've heard..."

Aberforth interrupted him impatiently.

"Dumbledore couldn't possibly have any old lovers, and even if he did, no one could guess who it would be! I asked you to find her because she has lived in Hogsmeade for over a hundred years, and she knows far more about this village than anyone else."

Lynn was somewhat disappointed; he had thought he could uncover some earth-shattering secret from Old Deng.

However, having a source of information is also a good thing.

"Then I'll go check out the Owl Post Office."

"When you get there and see her, don't mention money to her. No matter how much money you give her, she won't talk to you. Just tell her that the owner of Pig Head Bar told you to go and ask her."

"Okay, thank you very much."

"You're welcome, you've already paid for it."

Aberforth waved his hand, indicating that Lynn could leave.

Lynn left the Pighead Bar. It was already dark outside. He didn't linger and headed towards the Owl Post Office.

Lynn never underestimated Aberforth, that slovenly old man, or rather, he never underestimated the name Dumbledore.

The Dumbledore family, a legendary magical family favored by the phoenix. Apart from Albus Dumbledore, who is now known to every wizard, Aberforth may not be as powerful as his brother, but he is definitely not an ordinary wizard.

Since he introduced the person, he must not be a simple person.

Lynn felt that spending those hundred Gallons was not a bad deal at all.

The Owl Post Office in Hogsmeade is easy to find. There are no official administrators like the village chief; the only official Ministry of Magic institution in the village is the Owl Post Office, and everyone working there is a full-time employee of the Ministry of Magic.

Lynn walked into the post office, where only one person remained at night.

"Where do you need to send the item? Small items cost 1 scoop, large items cost the number of owls needed, and each additional owl costs 2 scoops."

The employee who remained at the station was looking down at his newspaper. Hearing someone enter, he spoke without looking up.

Lynn was obviously not there to send a package. He tapped on the counter to attract the employees' attention.

"I came here to find Grandma Danielle."
