Chapter 196, Section 193: Five-speed electric fan
"The gift, the gift, where's the gift?"
Early in the morning, Umaru had just returned from Hermione's house and saw Lynn. She grabbed his clothes and wouldn't let go, muttering to herself like a broken record.
Lynn pushed her forehead to prevent her from grabbing him, and then said while rummaging in his pocket with his other hand.
"I haven't forgotten, of course I brought you a gift."
He took out a candy box and handed it to Umaru. Umaru immediately took it excitedly, held it in her hands and shook it. The sound of the candies rattling inside could be clearly heard.
"Thank you, Lynn!" she said in a clear, cheerful voice.
Lynn smiled and patted her head: "You're welcome. Go open it and take a look. I still need to check your math homework later."
The little girl happily ran to the sofa with the candy box in her arms and started unpacking it.
But Lynn saw one off, and another was waiting for him.
"What about mine? What about mine?" Hermione moved closer to Lynn.
Lynn rummaged in his pocket again, looked around for a while, and finally pulled out a magic notebook.
"This is a rare magic book that I specially found for you in the Kingdom of Su."
Hermione happily accepted it; the spellbook looked very old and was obviously very valuable.
The Magic Notebook was actually one of the magic books that Lynn found in the magic library that Yelena took him to.
The contents are about the formulation and improvement of potions, and even Lynn, with his discerning eye, thought the notebook was very useful.
He had been so busy in the Su Kingdom for so many days that he didn't have time to choose a gift for Hermione and Umaru, but he could still bring a few things to serve as a gift.
"Is everything going well over there?" Hermione didn't know what Lynn was doing, so she didn't ask any further questions.
"It went fairly smoothly. I can finally relax for a few days now that I'm back." Lynn yawned and leaned back in his chair.
"When are we going to Diagon Alley? I saw this year's textbook list, and Professor Dumbledore's new Defense Against the Dark Arts professor is Mr. Lockhart! He's really amazing!"
Hermione excitedly told Lynn.
Lynn knew last semester that Hermione admired Lockhart. She had read Lockhart's adventure stories in a book she bought and had since been very fascinated by the image of a professional adventurer depicted in the book.
It must be said that although Lockhart was a conman, his novels were indeed quite good. Lynn, on Hermione's recommendation, also read some of his adventure autobiographies, and they were indeed captivating to read without knowing that he was a conman. If he had traveled to Lynn's time, he would definitely have become a huge hit as an online novelist.
So why would someone who's a perfectly good writer choose to become a fraudster?
"His books are not cheap. For a family like the Weasleys, it would take a lot of determination to buy a set for each of their children."
Lockhart's approach is a classic case of ripping people off. His autobiographies are fine as storybooks, and they do contain some practical knowledge about defense against the Dark Arts, but they are by no means suitable as textbooks.
He clearly wanted to gain both fame and fortune by becoming a professor, and his hypocritical attitude was truly disgusting.
Just as Lynn was chatting with Hermione at the dining table, Umaru suddenly screamed from the sofa!
Hermione hurriedly stood up and went to see what had happened, while Lynn followed behind her at a leisurely pace.
There was a half-open candy box on the coffee table, but the little girl hid behind the sofa, only daring to peek out with her eyes.
Seeing Lynn approaching, she shouted angrily, her eyes brimming with tears.
"Lynn is lying! There's no candy in the box! It's a cockroach! You're bullying a child!"
Hermione stopped walking immediately upon hearing this and glared at Lynn along with Umaru.
Lynn shrugged at them, walked directly to the coffee table, and picked up a pile of cockroaches from the box right in front of them.
"This isn't actually a cockroach; it's a type of edible candy."
To prove it, he even ate one himself.
There was a lot of honey oozing out of the cockroach pile. Lynn ate one in one bite, and some even dripped from the corner of her mouth.
Hermione shuddered at the sight and took a big step back, looking at him with disdain from a distance.
Lynn wiped her mouth with a tissue, then took a cockroach out of the box by its leg.
"Don't you want to try it? It tastes really good!"
Hermione shook her head as fast as a five-speed electric fan.
Lynn said regretfully.
"Your tolerance level is still too low. Don't even mention that this is just a cockroach-shaped candy; I've seen people eat real cockroaches before."
Hearing Lynn say this, Hermione felt a chill run down her spine.
"That must be disgusting."
It was Umaru, however, who seemed to have a foodie's intuition and realized that Lynn's expression of enjoyment was genuine.
"Really, is it really that delicious?"
She came out from behind the sofa, looking at Lynn with a mixture of timidity and anticipation.
Lynn broke off a cockroach leg for her.
"Of course it's delicious. You can try sucking on one leg first."
Umaru took the cockroach leg from Lynn, put it in her mouth and took a small bite. Her eyes lit up immediately.
"It's really delicious!"
She took a whole cockroach out of the box, took a bite, and could only bite off half of the cockroach's body. Umaru held the other half of the "cockroach corpse," which was still oozing honey, and recommended it to Hermione with a look of enjoyment.
"Hermione, won't you try some? Lynn wasn't lying, it really is delicious!"
Seeing the cockroach carcasses oozing an unknown yellow liquid, Hermione took another big step back and shook her head like a fan at its highest setting.
"I've decided to eat normal food."
Lynn shook his head with a sigh and said, "Then you've missed out on a great delicacy."
After he finished eating the one in his hand, just as he was about to take another one from the box, Umaru quickly resealed the box before he could.
"This is a gift from you, I can't let you eat it all!"
Like a possessive puppy, she huffed and puffed as she picked up the candy box, preparing to hide it in her room.
"Don't hide under the bed, or a real cockroach might crawl in one day."
Lynn warned her from behind.
Xiaomai stopped abruptly, clearly Lynn had guessed her thoughts.
The little girl hesitated for a moment, but eventually put the box of cockroaches into the refrigerator and tried to warn her in the same way Lynn usually did.
"You're not allowed to steal any food, okay?"
Lynn pouted: "I'm not you."
The Belloc family was unusually lively today. Hermione stayed here all day and didn't go home. She ate lunch and dinner here.
While enjoying his leisurely time at home, Lynn did not forget the important matter that Dumbledore had asked him to help with. In the afternoon, he sent an owl to Harry's aunt's house with a letter, unilaterally arranging for him to visit them the day after tomorrow morning.
