Dumbledore looked at Moriarty this time, smiling without saying a word. His gaze behind his half-moon spectacles was gentle, with a hint of inquiry.
"When I received Professor Flitwick's message, my first thought was, why are vampires so unlucky to have messed with you?" The white wizard put a piece of peach-flavored toffee into his mouth and chewed it with relish.
As a pure-blooded British wizard, Dumbledore found it difficult to have a favorable impression of vampires. If Moriarty hadn't used the Killing Curse, he might have agreed to Moriarty killing a few more vampires.
"And the subsequent reply from the vampire high command made me realize that you were looking for something, and that you had touched upon a core secret of the vampires." Dumbledore became serious. "The evidence supporting my deduction is the attitude of the French Ministry of Magic towards you—Von Wee Capet is not very powerful, but he is a hardliner. You cast the Killing Curse in front of him, which really annoyed him."
"The Killing Curse?" Diana looked extremely surprised, staring at Moriarty. "You used the Killing Curse to kill the vampire!"
"I know vampires have been hunting elves lately. Does what I'm doing count as avenging you elves?" Moriarty looked at Diana and smiled coldly, saying it was revenge but without any intention of getting close.
Diana didn't pay any attention and leaned back in her chair.
"I believe something must have happened for the vampires to target the elves, not even sparing their close relatives."
Moriarty thought of Fleur, who was clearly a distant relative of the elves.
"Are fairies related to elves?" Moriarty suddenly asked.
"Of course," Diana said haughtily, raising her chin. "The ancestors of fairies were elves, so fairies are traitors to the elves! Of course, this is not a glorious thing, so fairies keep quiet about it."
"But the vampires didn't target the fairies," Moriarty pointed out. "I haven't received any reports of fairies being attacked."
"That's because the goblins are all hiding in Gringotts." Diana chuckled, her words dripping with contempt for the goblins. "The vampires obviously don't want to attract the wizards' attention, even though they can't hide—the news of the vampires' rampage against elves is known even to the werewolves, but the wizards are completely unaware! It wasn't until I entered Hogwarts that I discovered the British Ministry of Magic was busy fighting for power. Ha, how wonderful."
Moriarty could see that Diana was suppressing her anger, and she had already begun to mock the wizards. Moriarty glanced at Dumbledore, the most powerful white wizard, and it was clear that Dumbledore had no intention of refuting her.
So Moriarty decided to suppress the elven priest's imposing manner. He turned his chair to face Diana, his grey eyes meeting Diana's emerald eyes.
"Since the elves are being hunted, why do you run out and abandon your people?"
"I came to Hogwarts to find a way to save my people! The vampires' attacks on the elves are another matter. As long as I order the elves to return to the lake and not go out, there is powerful magic that has protected us for generations, and the vampires cannot get in."
Diana explained the situation. She was relieved about the safety of her people, but what truly worried her was the emotions of the elves.
Dumbledore suddenly stopped eating the candy and shook his head.
"Professor Diana, I strongly disagree with your view that the vampires' hunting of elves and the elves' emotional changes are two separate things."
"You think this is the same thing," Diana tried to persuade Dumbledore. "But the elves' emotional changes happened first, and the vampires' hunting of the elves happened afterward."
"If everything could be explained by the sequence of time, there wouldn't be so much trouble and misfortune in the world." Dumbledore looked earnestly at Diana. "I ask you to think again, are there any special circumstances that have occurred, hidden in the smallest details?"
"Alright, let me think about it." Diana began to think carefully. Moriarty knew that elves had amazing memories, able to remember things that happened hundreds of years ago, and that elves usually had very long lifespans.
A minute later, Diana shook her head at them. "Nothing is amiss! I maintain that Hogwarts is the source of all this."
"On this point, I agree with her."
Moriarty sat up straight, meeting Dumbledore's gaze, and said, "If the Headless Horseman really made a prophecy, we should start our investigation with the Headless Horseman!"
"That's right!" Diana agreed.
"But the Headless Horseman doesn't have his own mural; he has no fixed abode, and we can't find him. We can only wait for him to come to us." Dumbledore had, of course, tried to find the Headless Horseman, but unsurprisingly, he failed. "When faced with the cruel and cold reality, we must find another way."
"So you sent Bill to find the vampires." Moriarty nodded slightly. Compared to the headless horseman who was nowhere to be found, it was easier to obtain information from vampires.
“In that case, I will seek out the Headless Horseman,” Moriarty said. “To ensure we can resolve these issues as quickly as possible, I think you can send someone, in my name, to visit the old Jew, a high-ranking vampire.”
"Old Jew? You mean the Jewish Marquis?" Diana said in surprise. "Jewish vampires usually don't interact with the outside world and rarely allow others to call them by their nicknames. I didn't expect you to have such a close relationship with the vampire elite."
Moriarty was unaware that the old Jew was a marquis among vampires, but in the envelope given to him by the vampire elites in France, the old Jew told him about the vampires' targeting of elves because of a legend of a headless vampire ancestor.
Moriarty relayed this information to Dumbledore and Diana.
Dumbledore thoughtfully ate a piece of candy, while Diana was furious.
"The ancestor of vampires, is that it? Ha, the ancestors of vampires have always been a part of mythology. We've never heard of any headless vampire ancestor! Vampires are targeting us with such a ridiculous reason. Very well, they'll face the wrath of the elves!"
Diana stood up to leave the school. Elves were not afraid of vampires. Although they were no match for them in a one-on-one fight and were outnumbered, the elves' greatest advantage lay in their magic.
Taking advantage of favorable terrain such as forests and lakes, some of the elves' magic has the power to cause massive damage.
Diana wouldn't have ordered the retreat to the lakeside if the elves hadn't become emotionally unstable.
Moriarty watched as Diana's face turned frosty, and she strode away, leaving a trail of fragrance in her wake as her high heels clattered on the floor. He thought to himself that the elven priestess must be furious and would surely order the elves to launch a counterattack once she returned to Lake Avalon.
But Moriarty couldn't let Diana leave like that.
"In the state of elves, fighting vampires is a sure way to lose! Elves will either be sucked dry or turned into blood relatives. As for you, priest? Vampires might keep you captive and suck your blood when they're hungry."
Moriarty said jokingly, "That's not bad either. You don't have to worry about the elves anymore. You can be a good rabbit, like a pig raised by Muggles, fattened up and then slaughtered."
Diana whirled around to face Moriarty: "If the Slytherin family were attacked by vampires for no reason, would you still be sitting here eating candy?"
"Of course not, but I will make thorough preparations before the war begins. I won't start a war out of anger like you did!" Moriarty also stood up and said loudly, "How many vampire families hunt elves? Who are they? What is their strength? Have you found out? No! What I see is just an angry priest, and I am about to see an angry priest cause the death of elves in order to vent his anger!"
"What does the death of an elf have to do with me? Whether it's an elf or a vampire, it has nothing to do with wizards. You can fight for a hundred years and it won't affect me."
After saying this, Moriarty ignored Diana's ashen face and sat down comfortably.
"Is there any tea, Dumbledore? Let Diana go. We'll sip our tea and wait for news of the elves' victory—if it's true, I can drink five large cups of tea, though I don't really like it."
"Excellent," Diana's beautiful eyebrows twitched, then she gave a cold smile: "To make your wish come true, the elves will wage war against the vampires!"
"Remember this: five large cups of black tea! Not a single drop can be wasted. I'll be coming to see it for myself!"
