Border Prisoner: The Mad Boss Seduces Her Every Night
Chapter 52 How can I stop crying?
Shi Luyu's mind went blank for a moment.
She stared at Xu Chenglin's face, trying to find similarities between his wild features and Xu Yuanjia's.
But she never knew Xu Yuanjia had a younger brother. He never mentioned it.
"What nonsense are you spouting!" she retorted, her voice much louder than before. "I've never heard of Jiajia having a younger brother like you!"
Xu Chenglin stopped laughing.
He looked at her, his gaze changing, revealing a more complex mix of scrutiny and pity.
"You don't even know who Xu Yuanjia is," he said slowly, each word like a dull knife cutting into flesh, "and you want to protect him?"
He turned around, walked back to the table, pulled out the military knife stuck in the table, and twirled it in his hand.
"I heard you were the first to stand in front of him," he said without turning around, his voice coming from behind his shoulder, "that's pretty brave of you."
Shi Luyu remained silent. She bit her lip, tears falling silently down her cheeks.
She knew he had ill intentions, knew he was trying to sow discord, but she didn't have the strength to refute him. Because she suddenly realized that her understanding of "Brother Jiajia" was indeed pitifully little.
She didn't know his family, his past, why he owned such a heavily guarded villa, or why the people who broke into the villa that night wanted to kill him.
All she knew was that he was her Jiajia brother.
But is "Brother Jiajia" really him? Or is he just the one she wants to see?
The tears fell harder and harder; she couldn't stop them no matter what she did.
Xu Chenglin turned around, saw she was still crying, and a flash of annoyance crossed his face. He holstered his military knife back in its leather sheath, strode over, and glared down at her:
"Shut up. Women's tears are the most annoying thing."
Shi Luyu's shoulders shrank in fright at his shout, but she couldn't stop crying, her sobs turning into silent choking. Tears rolled down her cheeks one after another, dripping onto her collar.
Xu Chenglin's brows furrowed even more. He grabbed a handful of his short hair in frustration, spun around in place, then returned, his tone noticeably less menacing: "Tell me, how can you stop crying?"
Shi Luyu sniffed and cautiously lifted her eyes from under her eyelashes to look at him. The corners of her eyes were red, and the tip of her nose was also red, making her look extremely pitiful.
"I'm hungry." Her voice was muffled, still tinged with tears.
Give me food.
The entire tent was silent for more than ten seconds.
Xu Chenglin stared at her, his expression like someone had stuffed a live frog into his mouth.
His lips twitched, he took a deep breath, then exhaled, "Do you even know what's going on?"
His voice rose again, "I've taken you hostage! You—you damn fool, you're still thinking about eating?"
Shi Luyu was so frightened by his shout that she shed two more tears.
This time, however, she didn't back down. Instead, she looked up at him, her sobs filled with a defiant, self-righteous indignation: "Even if I'm being held hostage, I'll still get hungry! I need to eat before I die!"
Xu Chenglin opened his mouth, then closed it again.
He turned his back to her, and Shi Luyu couldn't see his expression, only that his shoulders were trembling slightly.
Whether out of anger or something else, after a long while, he suddenly raised his hand and waved it at the guard beside him.
"Lock her back in," he gritted his teeth. "Get this woman some food."
He turned around and gave Shi Luyu one last look, the natural curve of his lips now looking extremely wicked.
"Don't let her die before Xu Yuanjia arrives," he said, his tone turning cold.
"I'm going to tear this woman to pieces in front of Xu Yuanjia to vent my anger."
Shi Luyu was being led outside by the guards, and when she reached the tent entrance, she couldn't help but look back.
The man named Xu Chenglin was studying the map on the table with his head down, his military knife poking a hole at a certain coordinate.
She was pushed into a remote tent. Before the tent flap fell, she saw Xu Chenglin stride toward the depths of the camp, with several men who looked like adjutants jogging after him.
I don't know where they went or what they did.
This tent was much smaller than the previous one, with only a thin layer of moisture-proof mat on the ground and a yellowed military blanket lying in the corner.
Two heavily armed mercenaries stood motionless outside the tent flap, their shadows cast on the tarpaulin.
Shi Luyu sat on the moisture-proof mat, hugging her knees, the abrasions on her side still throbbing. She looked down at her mud-covered canvas shoes; one shoelace was loose. She bent down to tighten it, but there was nothing else to do.
About half an hour later, the curtain was lifted from the outside.
A mercenary in camouflage walked in carrying a tray, put the items on the ground, and turned to leave.
On the tray were a bowl of rice and a bowl of vegetables. The rice was too wet and stuck together in a clump.
The dish was served on banana leaves... a few pieces of meat from some unknown animal, dark brown in color, soaking in chili oil, emitting a strong aroma of fish sauce and lemongrass.
Next to the meat were some roasted insects, dark in color, with the patterns on their wings and legs still clearly visible.
Shi Luyu had studied in Thailand for a while and thought she had adapted to Southeast Asian food. But what she was seeing before her was completely beyond her comprehension.
Rather than being a meal, it was more like a rough ration made from local ingredients in the border jungle—completely wild and untamed.
She stirred the pieces of meat with her spoon, the chili oil staining the spoon; it smelled spicy and salty. She didn't dare touch the roasted insects.
My stomach churned.
She put the spoon back on the tray and didn't eat anything.
After a long time, the curtain was lifted again.
This person's action of lifting the curtain was much larger than others; the entire tarpaulin was pulled to one side, making a rough rubbing sound.
Xu Chenglin bent down and crawled in, still carrying the chill of the night wind. He hadn't taken off his tactical vest, and the military knife at his waist gleamed under the light.
He glanced at the tray on the floor; the food was almost untouched, and his brows immediately furrowed.
"Didn't you say you were hungry? Why aren't you eating? Are you playing me for a fool?!"
Shi Luyu was startled by his sudden intrusion and shrank back, pressing her back against the tent pole.
She pursed her lips, glanced at the bowl of food, then quickly looked away, her voice very soft: "I can't get used to it...it's too spicy and salty."
Xu Chenglin squatted down, picked up the spoon, scooped up a mouthful, and put it in his mouth. He chewed twice, his expression unchanged. He tossed the spoon back onto the tray, stood up, and looked down at her.
"That's it? You're picky about food?"
Shi Luyu remained silent and turned her face to one side.
Xu Chenglin stared at her for a while, then suddenly reached out and grabbed the back of her collar, lifting her off the ground.
Shi Luyu screamed and staggered forward two steps as he grabbed her, her nose almost hitting his chest.
"What are you doing?!"
