Chapter 12: Reaching a Cooperation Agreement with Shen Muyan

When Jiang Zhiyu pushed open the wooden door of the Tai'an Hotel, she deliberately slowed her pace. The footsteps behind her stopped as expected, then followed lightly, finally stopping under the streetlight at the alley entrance.

The boss was dozing off at the counter as usual. Jiang Zhiyu went straight upstairs to the second floor. The moment the door to room 306 closed, 0047's voice rang out:

[Host! He really was following you. He's downstairs making a phone call right now! He'll probably check your hotel registration later!]

"What's the panic?" Jiang Zhiyu walked to the window, gently lifted the curtain, and looked down. Shen Muyan was leaning against the phone booth smoking, but his gaze remained fixed on the entrance of the inn.

She turned around, took out a set of coarse cloth short shirts from her space and changed into them. Then she used her wood-type superpower to make herself into a messy bird's nest hairstyle and smeared some soot on her face—in the blink of an eye, she became a clumsy girl who had just fled from the countryside.

"Will he still recognize me?"

[Host! You're amazing! This...this contrast is too much! If he can recognize me, I'll eat the crystal core live on stream!]

Jiang Zhiyu chuckled, opened the door, and went downstairs. As she passed the counter, the shopkeeper groggily glanced at her and muttered, "Who's this girl...?"

"I'm from the same hometown as the guest in room 306, and I've come to deliver something to her."

The boss waved his hand, didn't ask any more questions, and buried his head again.

As soon as she stepped out of the inn, Shen Muyan, who was at the alley entrance, indeed didn't notice her. Jiang Zhiyu walked towards the main street with her head down, but out of the corner of her eye, she saw him hang up the phone and go straight into the inn—it seemed he intended to go upstairs to look for her.

Jiang Zhiyu sneered, turned and turned into the narrow alley next to her. Using the shadow of the corner of the wall, she took out a dagger from her spatial storage and held it in her hand before turning back towards the hotel along the wall.

She silently circled around to the back door of the hotel, casually activating her supernatural power. A vine shot out and steadily wrapped around the water pipe on the second floor. Jiang Zhiyu climbed up the vine and stopped outside the window of room 306. She wanted to see what this person was up to.

The sounds of Shen Muyan rummaging through drawers and cabinets came from inside the room, mixed with his muttering, "Where is he? He just came in! And there's nothing here."

Jiang Zhiyu raised her hand, a wisp of wood-elemental energy condensed at her fingertips, and gently unlocked the window.

"Who?!" Shen Muyan turned around abruptly, a pistol suddenly appearing in his hand, the muzzle pointed directly out the window.

Jiang Zhiyu had already climbed through the window and entered, a dagger instantly pressed against his throat, her movements as swift as lightning: "Mr. Shen, trespassing is illegal."

Shen Muyan's pupils contracted sharply, and he instinctively tried to point the gun at her, but she gripped his wrist tightly with her other hand. The woman's strength was astonishing; he couldn't move an inch.

"Who are you?" His voice was strained, his eyes filled with surprise and suspicion. "What is your relationship to Li Jiahao?"

Jiang Zhiyu never expected that just by casually presenting a few items, others would be able to spot the flaws. This era is indeed not to be underestimated.

Jiang Zhiyu raised an eyebrow, her tone indifferent: "It seems Mr. Shen knows quite a bit."

She tightened her wrist slightly, pressing the dagger a few more inches, and blood instantly seeped from the blade: "Tell me, who are you to Li Jiahao? What do you want from following me?"

Cold sweat beaded on Shen Muyan's forehead, but he still forced a calm expression: "I have nothing to do with him! I was just hired to track down this shipment! They promised that if we found it, they would only take the data and 70% of the profits, giving me 30%!"

"Who is the employer?"

"I can't say..."

Jiang Zhiyu sneered, and the vines on her fingertips quietly wrapped around his arm. The sharp thorns pierced his skin and drilled in, causing him to gasp in pain.

"Will you tell or not?"

[Host, his identity is special, don't kill him, he's useful.]

"It's...it's the British government!" Shen Muyan finally broke down, confessing in a pained voice, "They suspect the Li family had secretly kept the documents beforehand, and they ordered me to find them at all costs!"

Jiang Zhiyu's eyes narrowed—it was indeed related to the British. She loosened her grip, sheathed the dagger, and the vines that had been binding him with the dagger also disappeared, leaving only a few shallow bloodstains on his arm.

"Get out." She pointed to the window, her tone icy. "I'll let you off the hook today, but next time I see you, it won't be as simple as just bleeding."

Shen Muyan clutched his injured arm and staggered out the window to escape, forgetting even to pick up the pistol that had fallen to the ground.

Jiang Zhiyu picked up the gun, weighed it in her hand for a moment, and then tossed it into her spatial storage. 0047's voice was tinged with lingering fear:

[Host, this person is a famous private detective in Hong Kong. He has connections in both the legitimate and underworld circles and has a very special identity. He will definitely be useful in the future.]

"Killing him would be more troublesome." She walked to the table, her eyes growing colder as she looked at the rummaged luggage.

"Now that the British have their eyes on this shipment, they certainly won't give up so easily. Don't forget about the Black Dragon Gang; they'll find us like hungry dogs, just by the scent. But they might be disappointed, though, as the blueprints aren't with me. Tell me, I've once again acted as a shield for Song Yanzhou; what kind of interest should I ask for?"

She turned and watched Shen Muyan's figure disappear into the alleyway. Then, as if remembering something, she chuckled softly, "Perfect timing! The auction needs a 'shill,' so he'll do! He's practically delivered himself to our doorstep."

[Host, what are you planning to do now?]

"If we use this guy well, he'll be a valuable asset. Let's meet him again tonight and get him to help us get a good price for our 'treasure.'" Jiang Zhiyu tapped the table lightly with her fingertips, a sly glint in her eyes. "After all, it's free money for the British."

On the day of the auction, Jiang Zhiyu wore a champagne-colored long dress and a delicate diamond necklace—the least noticeable piece of jewelry in her collection. Combined with her striking features, her appearance immediately drew gasps from the audience. The wives quickly glanced at their husbands, fearing another concubine would be added to their household. Jiang Zhiyu, however, kept her eyes fixed on the outside and walked straight inside.

Shen Muyan was indeed present. He stood by the bar, the bandage on his arm hidden in the sleeve of his suit. When he saw Jiang Zhiyu enter, his hand holding the wine glass paused slightly, and a look of shock and complexity flashed in his eyes.

He knew this woman was exceptionally beautiful, but he hadn't expected her to exude such a powerful aura in this elaborate attire. He quickly regained his composure and even raised his glass to her.

Jiang Zhiyu walked slowly toward him.

Standing beside him, she raised her eyebrows slightly, clearly in a very good mood: "Judging from Mr. Shen's expression, have you come to your senses? Is the atmosphere team I asked for ready?" Jiang Zhiyu's tone was confident, as if she had victory in her grasp.

"Don't worry." Shen Muyan gave her a deep look, inwardly sighing with relief.

This woman is really not someone to mess with. He thought that once she let him go, as long as he didn't provoke her again and turned down the business in England, that would be the end of it. But that very night, she found his place and dug up all his secrets, even threatening him with his son. As a private investigator, he was always scheming against others and had never revealed the existence of his son. He couldn't fathom this woman's background at all, how she could uncover so many hidden things, forcing him to abandon his business in England and be tied to her.

He shook his glass helplessly and said in a deep voice, "I've found three 'friends' to guarantee the atmosphere will be perfect. Miss Jiang, don't forget what we agreed on..."

Jiang Zhiyu interrupted him calmly: "After it's done, I will naturally keep my mouth shut." After saying that, she turned and walked towards her seat.
