Slow to mature after marriage
Chapter 89 Kill
The presentation was a spin-off from the TV show "The Heart-Fluttering Forensic Doctor." After several episodes aired, the show's popularity exceeded expectations, so the organizers capitalized on this momentum by holding this forensic medicine promotion event at Beijing University. Mu Siwan, one of the main speakers, spoke for over an hour, and the response from the forensic students and show fans in the audience was more enthusiastic than anticipated.
When the event ended, several colleagues came over and asked her if she wanted to have dinner together.
Mu Siwan shook her head. "Maybe next time. I've made plans with my brother."
Her colleague didn't insist and left with a smile.
The students walked out in twos and threes. Some came over to take photos, and she stood still, forcing a smile. After the photos were taken, a girl blushed and whispered, "I really like you and Officer Meng."
Mu Siwan stood there, stunned. He liked her…and Meng Qing?
She opened her mouth as if to ask something, but the person had already disappeared.
Mu Siwan looked away, but before she could think any further, she was pulled aside by several girls to take a group photo.
After everyone dispersed, a few boys remained, pushing and shoving each other, whispering amongst themselves, their eyes occasionally glancing in her direction.
Mu Siwan didn't notice; she lowered her head and began packing her things.
"Um...Teacher Mu—"
A boy was pushed forward by his companion, his face flushed, unsure of what to do with his hands. He mustered his courage.
"Could I take a picture with you?"
"it is good."
Mu Siwan nodded.
She wore a simple white shirt and jeans today, her hair tied in a low ponytail, and minimal makeup. Standing among the group of college students, she looked more like a student than they did. Only her eyes, so calm and serene, gave her an air of authority that made people hesitant to be too forward.
The boy blushed even more, stood next to her, raised his hand, hesitated for a moment, and carefully placed it on her shoulder.
His hand froze the moment he touched it.
A gaze fell upon that hand. Not just looking, but pressing down. Like a real object, it weighed heavily upon it.
The boy followed the gaze and looked over—a man stood at the door, wearing a black shirt, suit pants, sleeves rolled up to his forearms, and a silver watch on his wrist.
He leaned against the door frame, hands in his pockets, looking languid, like a different species compared to the college students around him who were carrying backpacks and wearing hoodies.
He didn't look at anyone else, only staring at the hand resting on Mu Siwan's shoulder.
The boy didn't know why he felt guilty, but his hand had already automatically retracted. He took half a step back, changed the hand that was on his shoulder into a peace sign, and forced a mechanical smile.
He practically ran away as soon as the shutter clicked.
Mu Siwan stared blankly at the boy's retreating figure, and even began to reflect on her own actions.
Was she really that scary?
Bo Yan straightened up from the door frame and walked in.
"it's over?"
"Um."
Mu Siwan glanced down at her phone. "Mu Sigui is still in class. He told us to go straight to the cafeteria and wait for him, or we won't be able to get a seat."
Mu Siwan was typing to Mu Sigui with her head down.
[Mu Siwan]: By the way, your brother-in-law came today too, and we had dinner together.
[Musigui]: ...
She stared at the ellipsis for a few seconds, then looked up at Bo Yan. "I told Mu Sigui that you were going to have dinner with us."
Bo Yan picked up her bag and weighed it in his hand; it was quite heavy. "What did your brother say?"
"You came back at six o'clock." Mu Siwan frowned. "Is it because you're not very welcome?"
"How could that be?" The man asked without changing his expression. "My brother was so excited he couldn't express it."
Mu Siwan: "..."
-
The cafeteria was more crowded than I expected. Long queues formed in front of the windows, and the noise mingled with the aroma of food, wafting towards me.
Mu Siwan hadn't expected the show "The Heart-Fluttering Forensic Doctor" to be so popular. She hadn't walked more than a few steps into the cafeteria when people recognized her and greeted her.
Fortunately, this time no one said anything like "I really like you and Officer Meng" in front of her.
Mu Siwan glanced at the person standing next to her and inexplicably breathed a sigh of relief.
The person was completely unaware of this, but said in a rather cheerful mood, "There are quite a few people with good taste."
Mu Siwan: "...Is that so?"
Just as they finally found an empty seat, Mu Sigui arrived.
He saw Mu Siwan from afar, smiled and called out "Sister!" before walking over and sitting down next to her. Then, looking at the person opposite him, his smile faded, and his expression became blank.
"Brother-in-law."
The tone was exactly the same as that time at the Mu family's old house. The tone of someone calling for raw meat.
Bo Yan sat opposite Mu Siwan, a slight smile playing on his lips, not minding at all. "Hello, little brother."
Mu Sigui's feelings towards Bo Yan were somewhat complicated. On one hand, he remembered that this man had pulled his sister out of the quagmire of the Mu family; that day, his sister stood beside Bo Yan, and for the first time, she didn't have to worry about Mu Cheng's attitude. On the other hand, he couldn't forget that Bo Yan went abroad immediately after getting married, and stayed away for three years, ignoring him completely. Mu Sigui didn't believe he had fulfilled his duties as a husband.
The meal was awkward. The three sat in a corner of the cafeteria. Mu Sigui buried her head in her rice, not even glancing at the person opposite her. Bo Yan didn't seem to mind, eating slowly and deliberately, occasionally glancing sideways and exchanging a few words with Mu Siwan with a low laugh.
As Mu Sigui listened to the conversation, he felt even more awkward—his sister's tone seemed softer than usual when she spoke to him. He didn't want to admit that he had noticed it.
After dinner, the three of them took a walk around the campus to digest their food. Dusk crept in from the end of the running track, casting long shadows. The basketball court was on their left, and the sounds of balls bouncing and boys shouting mingled together, creating a lively atmosphere that made their corner seem exceptionally quiet.
Mu Siwan's phone rang. She glanced at the screen, took a few steps to the side, and answered it. Her voice was very low, and it was impossible to hear what she was saying.
The playground quieted down, with only the muffled thud of basketballs hitting the ground in the distance.
Bo Yan put his hands in his pockets and watched Mu Siwan's retreating figure, the smile that usually graced his face slowly fading.
He stared at the figure for a few seconds, then suddenly spoke.
"How much do you know about your sister's affairs?"
Mu Sigui didn't look at him, staring at the basketball hoop in the distance, her face expressionless. "How much do you want to know?"
Bo Yan said in a deep voice: "Everything, everything you know about the Mu family."
He had already asked Wang Jin to investigate. However, Mu Siwan had had very little contact with the outside world over the years, and Wang Jin could only find out a few pages of information. He knew that she hadn't had a good life in the Mu family, but that was all. What exactly happened in those years, and just how bad it was, he could only find out by asking Mu Sigui.
Mu Sigui glanced at him sideways and scoffed, "Why should I tell you about my sister? He's just a husband in name only."
Bo Yan rested his cheek on his hand, then suddenly laughed, "Based on my current desire to kill your father."
"I need to know what your sister has been through over the years to decide whether or not to spare his life."
