Slow to mature after marriage
Chapter 37 The Zhang Family
Bo Yan stared at her expressionlessly.
That face still had that same expression, clean and uncluttered, without any other meaning whatsoever.
He took a deep breath and raised his hand.
A sharp tap on the forehead.
Mu Siwan winced in pain, clutched her forehead, and looked up at him.
A sudden shock appeared in his eyes.
"I really want to send someone to crack open your head and see what's inside," Bo Yan gritted his teeth. "Is there only a corpse and bones in here, and nothing else?"
Mu Siwan rubbed her forehead and thought about it seriously.
"To perform brain surgery, you need to apply for the relevant qualifications," she said. "Ordinary people cannot perform brain surgery."
Bo Yan: "..."
He turned and left.
My pace was much faster than before.
Mu Siwan, having fallen behind, quickened her pace to catch up.
But he walked very fast.
She chased after him for a few steps, then simply stopped.
Standing there, watching the figure walk further and further away, I was filled with confusion.
Bo Yan, this person...
She's a bit moody.
Sunlight streamed in through the corridor windows and fell on Mu Siwan.
She rubbed her still slightly aching forehead and walked out unhurriedly.
-
Bo Yan walked quickly towards the door.
Just as I turned the corner in the corridor, I bumped into a man.
He looked up.
The other person also looked up.
The moment their eyes met, Bo Yan recognized him—the one who had sat next to her at the restaurant yesterday and poured her tea.
He paused for a moment.
His gaze lingered on the other person's face for a moment before he looked away with a half-smile.
The man pouring tea.
He didn't speak, nor did he move any further.
They just stood there, abruptly stopping.
Meng Qing glanced at him, recognized him, but didn't pay any attention. His gaze passed over him and landed on the figure at the end of the corridor.
He lifted his foot and walked over.
"Siwan".
His voice was filled with laughter, intimate and natural.
Bo Yan's eyebrows twitched.
Siwan?
Are you very familiar with each other?
He stood still and looked back.
Mu Siwan was walking over, rubbing her forehead, when she heard the sound and looked up.
Meng Qing was already standing in front of her at some point, holding a stack of documents in his hand.
"I just happened to run into you," he said. "These are supplementary materials for yesterday's case; I just retrieved them from the archives."
Mu Siwan took it, flipped through it, and nodded.
"Thanks."
Meng Qing looked at her, his gaze lingering on her face for a moment.
"Did you stay up all night last night?"
There was a hint of concern in his tone.
Mu Siwan was stunned for a moment, then raised her hand to touch her face.
"Is it obvious?"
"There's a slight dark circle under her eye," Meng Qing said, then tapped her slightly reddened forehead from a distance. "Why is there... a little red here too?"
"fine."
Mu Siwan shook her head and handed him the documents in her hand.
"Just take it directly to the forensic lab for Xiao Qin," she said. "I'm going back to catch up on some sleep first."
Meng Qing took the documents and was about to say something more.
"Mu Siwan".
A lazy voice came from ahead.
The two looked up at the same time.
Bo Yan stood at the end of the corridor, holding the suit jacket in his hand, looking this way.
His face was expressionless.
"Are you going home or not?"
Mu Siwan responded and quickened her pace to walk over.
Bo Yan watched her approach.
Then, he threw the coat he was holding at her.
Mu Siwan caught it instinctively, her whole body enveloped in a gray mist. A faint minty scent wafted over, carrying his unique, refreshing aura.
She paused for a moment, then pulled her coat off her head, revealing her face.
What are you doing?
Bo Yan raised his hand and slowly placed it on her shoulder.
I took it with me.
From Meng Qing's perspective, the two were extremely close.
He stood at the end of the corridor, watching this scene from afar, his brows slightly furrowed.
Bo Yan withdrew his gaze, his tone slow and casual, as if it were the most natural thing in the world.
"I'm too tired," he said. "I can't carry my coat, can you help me?"
-
Meng Qing stood still, looking at the two figures.
The words "go home" reached his ears, and the document in his hand crumpled slightly from being gripped so tightly.
Come back home.
What kind of relationship is required to say "go home"?
Boyfriend and girlfriend?
still is……
He suddenly dared not think any further.
Her gaze fell on the coat that had been thrown at her, and then on the hand that was resting on her shoulder.
The sight of the two people's backs, seen by him, was glaringly intimate.
Meng Qing withdrew his gaze and turned to walk towards the forensic room.
The steps were slow, but heavy.
He squeezed the document in his hand repeatedly before finally letting it go, dusting it off, and restoring it to its original smoothness.
Meng Qing pushed open the door to the forensic room.
Xiao Qin was catching up on sleep at the table when she heard the noise and groggily raised her head.
"Hmm... Officer Meng?"
Meng Qing placed the documents in his hand on the table.
"This was sent by the forensic pathologist," he said. "To supplement the documentation."
Xiao Qin rubbed his eyes, nodded, and took the documents.
Meng Qing turned to leave.
He stopped abruptly as he reached the doorway.
"Xiao Qin".
"Um?"
Xiao Qin raised her head.
Meng Qing stood at the door, his back to her, so her expression was not visible.
"Forensic Doctor Mu..." he asked with difficulty, "Are you married?"
Xiao Qin was stunned for a moment.
"Oh? Yeah, we've been married for three years."
Upon hearing this, Xiao Qin was no longer sleepy and excitedly added, "I originally thought that Master and Grandmaster didn't get along, but I didn't expect today—"
But the door was gently closed in front of her.
Meng Qing stood outside the door.
The sunlight outside the window was perfect, shining on him.
He didn't move for a long time.
-
Mu Siwan sat in the driver's seat, driving steadily. The sunroof was open, and sunlight streamed in from above, making the entire car cabin warm and cozy.
Bo Yan leaned back lazily in the passenger seat, casually covering his face with his dark gray suit jacket to hide his eyes.
Sunlight filtered through the thin fabric, casting a blurry shadow on his face.
He closed his eyes and suddenly spoke.
"Who was that person you were chatting with at the door just now?"
Mu Siwan looked straight ahead.
"From the Criminal Investigation Division," she said. "They're in charge of this construction site case."
Bo Yan hummed in agreement.
There was silence for a few seconds.
He then asked, "What's our relationship? Why are you calling me—"
He drew out the last syllable, pausing for a moment with an ambiguous meaning.
"Siwan?"
Mu Siwan didn't notice the subtle sourness in his tone.
She looked straight ahead, her tone calm.
"His name is Meng Qing. He was my tutor for six months when I was sixteen, and I haven't seen him since."
He paused for a moment.
"We only got to know each other again in the last two days."
We met when we were sixteen.
Bo Yan gave a soft snort and pulled his suit up to completely cover his face.
He didn't say anything more.
Saying too much would make him, the empress, seem petty and narrow-minded.
-
The car came to a smooth stop at the entrance of Muyan Garden.
Mu Siwan turned off the engine and turned to call him.
The words were on the tip of his tongue, but he stopped himself.
The dark gray suit jacket slipped down slightly, revealing the man's face.
Bo Yan fell asleep.
Sunlight streamed in through the half-open car window, falling on his brow and eyes. His eyelashes cast a small shadow beneath his eyelids, the lines of his nose were clearly illuminated by the light, and his thin lips were slightly pursed. He looked somewhat unfamiliar, lacking his usual lazy demeanor.
She stared at him for a while.
This was the first time Mu Siwan had looked at him seriously in a non-dark environment, outside of marital obligations.
She stared at his profile, her gaze sliding from his brow bone to the bridge of his nose, and then to the corners of his slightly pursed lips.
Then, his eyelashes fluttered.
She quickly looked away.
Bo Yan opened his eyes and met her gaze.
The two people were very close.
He paused for a second, then slowly curled the corners of his lips into a smile.
"What are you looking at?"
The man's voice was still hoarse from just waking up, lazy, yet like a feather gently brushing against her ear.
Mu Siwan looked away.
"arrive."
After she finished speaking, she pushed open the car door and got out.
Bo Yan sat in the passenger seat, watching her hurriedly get out of the car, and leaned back without moving.
Thinking back to that scene—the few seconds she stared at him, he caught her staring, and she quickly looked away, like a startled rabbit.
His lips slowly curved into a smile.
Okay, I got caught peeping.
