Slow to mature after marriage
Chapter 22 Grandma
After finishing breakfast, Bo Yan went to the study.
Before the door closed, Mu Siwan heard the phone ringing inside.
She finished cleaning up the dishes and was about to go upstairs when her phone vibrated.
Bo Ning's name popped up on the screen.
"Sister-in-law! Sister-in-law! Sister-in-law!"
The voice on the other end was as lively as a dog running around.
Mu Siwan moved her phone a little further away.
"Um."
Are you free today? This afternoon!
Mu Siwan thought for a moment.
"have."
"Great!" Bo Ning cheered. "Then come with me to get a foot bath! I know a really good place, the environment is comfortable and they offer massages. You've been staying up late a lot lately, so this is a good opportunity to relax."
Soaking your feet.
She's never soaked in it.
"Okay," she said.
Bo Ning cheered again on the other end of the phone, gave an address and time, and then hurriedly hung up, saying she was going to change her clothes.
Mu Siwan glanced in the direction of the study.
The door was closed, and it was very quiet inside.
She looked away and went upstairs to change her clothes.
-
In the walk-in closet, she opened the wardrobe and glanced at the rows of coats.
The March sun was already carrying a hint of warmth, and she couldn't wear a down jacket anymore. She chose a light gray trench coat, and also took out a matching beige inner layer.
Then she looked in the mirror and struggled with a problem.
Below the collarbone, there is a light red mark. Above the collarbone, near the neck, there is another mark.
She raised her arm, and there was a small patch on the inside of her wrist.
She stared at the marks, her brow furrowing slightly.
The scene from last night flashed through her mind a few times—she seemed to feel it when he kissed her, but she wasn't thinking clearly at the time and didn't pay attention.
She rummaged through the wardrobe and found a silk scarf.
It was light-colored and tied around the neck, barely covering the most conspicuous part.
Mu Siwan turned around in front of the mirror to adjust her angle.
The collarbone area is still faintly visible.
There's even less hope for the area on the wrist.
Forget it.
She tied the scarf, put on her trench coat, and went downstairs.
-
In the living room, Bo Yan had come out of the study at some point and was squatting by the sofa, pointing his finger at Grace's head.
Grace lazily rubbed his fingertips.
He looked up when he heard footsteps.
His gaze lingered on her.
She changed her clothes and put on makeup.
The man's gaze finally settled on the silk scarf.
The images from last night flashed through my mind—she turned her head to avoid his kiss, he followed and landed on her collarbone.
She dodged again, so the kiss landed a little higher.
Bo Yan calmly withdrew his gaze.
"Going out?"
"Yes, my sister invited me to get a foot bath."
Bo Yan snorted: "They're probably too idle every day, not doing anything productive."
Confused by the sudden accusation, Mu Siwan looked at him, her gaze unusually disapproving.
"My sister is doing well," she said.
Bo Yan: "..."
Row.
The man squatted down again, reached out and poked Grace's head, this time with more force than before.
"I'm going to the United States tomorrow," he suddenly said, "and will stay for at least two weeks."
Yanhe International's headquarters are located in the United States. Although he had moved most of his business to China during those three years, he still kept a branch office overseas. Recently, some problems arose there—cash flow issues, a partner withdrew their investment at the last minute, and several projects were stuck in the accounts and couldn't be moved. He had to go there personally to handle it.
Meeting the man's calm gaze, Mu Siwan hummed in response.
Bo Yan was still looking at her, waiting for what she would say next.
But obviously not, she turned and left.
As her hand touched the doorknob, Mu Siwan suddenly stopped.
Sunlight streamed through the crack in the door, falling on her profile.
She turned around.
"Oh, right."
Bo Yan looked up at her.
She frowned and pointed to the scarf around her neck.
"Next time, don't leave it here."
Bo Yan: "..."
-
The private room of the foot bath shop was filled with steam, and a faint aroma of herbs mingled with the steam.
Bo Ning nestled in the soft chair, her feet soaking in the wooden tub, sighing with comfort.
"Sister-in-law, isn't this shop amazing?"
Mu Siwan nodded.
It really feels good. The hot water soaks over my ankles, gradually easing the fatigue from working on set all day.
Bo Ning turned her head to look at her, her eyes bright.
"Sister-in-law, I'm currently writing a novel."
Mu Siwan hummed in agreement.
"The protagonist is a forensic doctor!" Bo Ning leaned closer. "So I wanted to ask you, do you have any... those... bizarre death stories? The kind that would give readers goosebumps?"
Mu Siwan thought for a moment.
"have."
Bo Ning's eyes brightened even more.
"Last year, there was a case where the deceased was found sitting on his own sofa, in a natural posture, with a calm expression, and no external injuries. There were no signs of a struggle at the scene, the doors and windows were intact, and there were no signs of poisoning."
"How did he die?"
"Scared to death."
Bo Ning was stunned.
"The deceased had a heart condition. The murderer broke into his house beforehand and replaced the photo on his bedside table with a terrifying one while he was sleeping. For a week, the murderer changed the photo every day to an even more frightening one. On the seventh day, the deceased was scared to death."
Bo Ning gasped.
"This killer is too..."
"A psychologist," Mu Siwan said calmly. "The deceased's ex-wife. The divorce settlement was unfair, and she planned this for a year."
Bo Ning remained silent for a few seconds, then shrank back.
"Sister-in-law...is your line of work always this exciting?"
Mu Siwan thought for a moment.
"Most of the cases aren't exciting. But the few that are exciting are definitely quite thrilling."
Bo Ning asked a few more questions, which Mu Siwan answered one by one. Some were bloody, some were bizarre, and some left one speechless for a long time after hearing them.
As they chatted, Bo Ning suddenly changed the subject.
"Sister-in-law, how are things going between you and my brother?"
Mu Siwan paused in her foot-soaking motion.
"good."
"What do you mean by 'it's alright'?" Bo Ning frowned. "Is he particularly clueless about romance? Does he have no manners? Does he always have a cold face?"
Mu Siwan thought about Bo Yan's usual demeanor.
"He's alright," she said. "He talks a lot and knows how to talk."
Bo Ning pouted: "That's with you. He's too lazy to even speak to anyone else."
She moved closer to Mu Siwan, wanting to ask another question, when her gaze suddenly fell on Mu Siwan's neck. A faint red mark was faintly visible along the edge of the scarf.
Bo Ning paused for a second, then her eyes crinkled into a smile.
"sister in law!"
Mu Siwan looked at her.
Bo Ning pointed at her neck, her smile ambiguous.
"What is this?"
Mu Siwan glanced down at it, then looked up again.
"trace."
"What marks?"
"Left by your brother."
Bo Ning was taken aback by her direct answer, then laughed even harder.
"Then I'm relieved." She paused. "I was worried my brother would be upset because of what happened with my parents... Anyway, seeing how well you two get along, I'm relieved."
She cleared her throat and moved closer.
"Sister-in-law, you know, we novelists sometimes have to write those kinds of scenes... but I don't know how. Can you explain it to me in detail?"
That kind of plot.
Mu Siwan recalled last night.
My ears started burning uncontrollably.
She straightened her expression.
"This won't do."
-
After soaking their feet, the two changed their clothes and went outside.
Bo Ning held her hand, a little reluctant to let go.
"Sister-in-law, why don't you come back to the old house with me for a couple of days? Grandma keeps talking about you."
Mu Siwan paused in her steps.
"He's going on a business trip tomorrow," she said.
As his wife, I should see him off tonight.
Bo Ning was taken aback.
"My brother?"
Mu Siwan nodded.
Bo Ning blinked, looked at her, then at the scarf around her neck, and smiled ambiguously, yet knowingly.
"Okay, okay, I got it." She let go of his hand. "Then you should go back now, sister-in-law. I won't keep you any longer."
"Drive carefully."
Mu Siwan opened her mouth to explain, but didn't know where to begin.
He could only nod, turn around, and get into the car.
The car started and drove into the night.
Bo Ning stood there, watching the car disappear around the street corner, and took out her phone to send a message to the old lady.
"Grandma, I think you might become a great-grandmother soon."
