Chapter 146 Stupid Beyond Redemption

Yang Zhiyan slept for about two hours. She stirred; Qin Yuzheng was no longer beside her.

She sat up, walked to the window, and saw the locust tree in the yard swaying its branches gently in the wind.

She went downstairs and passed by the study. The door was ajar, and Qin Guobing's voice came from inside.

"Remember the expectations behind your names: be diligent in politics, and work together with one heart; be diligent in business, and build your businesses with integrity. This is also Grandpa's expectation for you."

Qin Yuzheng and Qin Yushang's voices rang out simultaneously, "Understood."

Qin Guobing then turned to Qin Yushang, "You're not young anymore, it's time to think about your personal life. You used to say you weren't worried because your brother was still single, but now, Zheng, I'm not worried anymore. You should focus on resolving your personal issues this year."

Qin Yushang said "I know" but in his heart he was thinking how great it is to be single. Look how miserable his brother is now, penniless, and he even has to hand over his New Year's red envelope to his wife.

Qin Yuzheng seemed to see through Qin Yushang's thoughts. He stood up and said, "A single dog like you wouldn't understand the happiness of a married man."

He opened the study door. "You two can chat. I'm going to check if my wife is awake. I took her out to play."

In the afternoon, Qin Yuzheng took Yang Zhiyan to a private resort for a barbecue with Liu Minlan, Zhou Yijun, and the others.

Grandma Qin played mahjong with her old friends. Qin Guobing and Shen Yu also went out on a date.

The remaining two are single women. Qin Yuyan spends most of her time at the research institute, so she doesn't have many friends.

The two stared at each other, lamenting how boring the New Year was.

Later, Qin Yuzheng, worried that Yang Zhiyan would be bored, called Qin Yuyan along, and later Qin Yushang also came.

The resort is far from the city, more than an hour's drive away, nestled in rolling hills. In winter, the grass and trees turn yellow, but a few pine trees in the distance remain dark green.

Qin Yuzheng's car was parked at the resort. When Yang Zhiyan got out of the car, she saw that a barbecue grill had been set up in the yard, and the wooden table next to it was full of ingredients: lamb skewers, chicken wings, corn, and squid.

Zhou Yijun was brushing oil onto the grill when she looked up, saw her, and waved.

Qin Yuzheng helped Yang Zhiyan adjust her scarf, "We can set off fireworks here, you can watch them tonight."

Yang Zhiyan was very happy.

They spent the entire afternoon at the resort, a group of people gathered around the grill, chatting about this and that.

Yang Zhiyan cannot drink alcohol, only hot tea. After the sun set and it was completely dark, Liu Minlan lit the fireworks in the center of the courtyard.

Fireworks shot into the night sky and exploded overhead, leaving behind golden fragments.

From the second to the fifth day of the Lunar New Year, Yang Zhiyan accompanied Qin Yuzheng to pay New Year's visits.

The people I visited were all figures frequently seen in the news. Their homes were large and quiet, and the people spoke in low voices, addressing each other politely and familiarly.

She sat quietly to the side, sipping her tea and listening to their conversation. She couldn't join in, but she didn't feel neglected.

Qin Yuzheng often rested his hand on the back of her chair, appearing as a protector.

The people who came to the Qin family to pay New Year's greetings were also extraordinary figures. Yang Zhiyan sat in the living room for the entire afternoon and saw some faces that she had only seen on television before.

After entering, those people would stand in front of Grandma Qin, respectfully call her "Madam," and then exchange a few pleasantries with Qin Guobing.

When it was Qin Yuzheng's turn, they would greet him with "Happy New Year, Qin Shuji".

His gaze would occasionally sweep over Yang Zhiyan with a hint of curiosity, but he would quickly look away.

The Qin family's protection of Yang Zhiyan was very obvious. The people who came and went were all shrewd and understood how much the Qin family valued this new daughter-in-law.

On the fifth day of the Lunar New Year, Yang Zhiyan was too exhausted to run around anymore. As Qin Yuzheng changed his coat and prepared to leave, she sat on the sofa hugging a cushion, saying, "I'm not going today."

He walked over and knelt down in front of her. "Tired?"

Yang Zhiyan nodded. Qin Yuzheng looked at the faint bluish-gray tinge under her eyes.

"Then you should get some rest. I'll come back and keep you company."

He stood up, kissed her on the forehead, and then went out the door.

Qin Guobing and Qin Yuzheng went to pay New Year's visits together, Qin Yushang went to visit his business partners, Qin Yuyan made an appointment with her colleagues for dinner, and Grandma Qin went out to chat with her old friends.

Only Shen Yu and Yang Zhiyan remained in the old house.

Shen Yu sat in her room, clutching her phone. Liu Mei's message was still from last night: "Madam, the hospital has made arrangements, and we can come anytime."

She stood up, walked to the mirror, and looked at her face. Her complexion was indeed not good, but it wasn't pale enough.

Shen Yu applied a little powder to make her face look even paler.

She walked to Yang Zhiyan's door and knocked three times. Yang Zhiyan opened the door and saw her standing there, her face unnaturally pale, one hand clutching her stomach.

"Zhiyan, I'm not feeling well. Could you come with me to the hospital?"

Yang Zhiyan looked at her pale face and asked, "Mom, what's wrong?"

Shen Yu shook her head. "It's an old problem, my stomach hurts. The driver is waiting downstairs, you can come with me."

Yang Zhiyan didn't think much of it, picked up her coat, and followed her downstairs.

The car drove to a high-end private hospital owned by the Shen family.

Shen Yu walked ahead, and someone came up to them and led them inside.

Not long after, Shen Yu came out of the consultation room again. "Since you're already here, why don't you get a full check-up? It's your own hospital after all."

Yang Zhiyan didn't really want to be examined, and she was about to refuse when her phone rang. It was Qin Yuzheng calling.

Yang Zhiyan tried to answer, but Shen Yu reached out and took the phone, then hung up.

Yang Zhiyan was stunned for a moment, "Mom..."

"Zhiyan," Shen Yu looked at her, "get a check-up first, it won't take long."

She waved to the side, and two nurses came over. "Take the young mistress for a check-up."

Yang Zhiyan looked at the two nurses surrounding her and asked, "What kind of examination is it? Does it require such a fuss?"

Shen Yu sneered, "My son is completely useless, how did you even get pregnant?"

Yang Zhiyan looked at her and said sarcastically, "Do you expect me to stand by and watch your son have sex with you?"

Shen Yu was taken aback. "No need for that."

"Then how do you know if he's capable? Given your relationship with Ah-Zheng, he wouldn't tell you these things, would he?"

Shen Yu's expression froze for a moment. "But Yunyun said he can't."

When Yang Zhiyan heard the name "Yunyun," a string in her heart was suddenly plucked.

"So you'd rather believe a stranger?"

Yang Zhiyan mimicked Qin Yuzheng's tone, "No wonder A-Zheng said you're stupid and easily provoked. He really is good at judging people."

Shen Yu's expression changed slightly. From childhood to adulthood, she hated it most when people called her stupid, even though she was indeed not very smart sometimes.

Shen Yu's voice turned cold. "Whether you admit it or not, as long as you do an amniocentesis and have your DNA tested, won't that prove your innocence? Just do it obediently."

Yang Zhiyan looked at her, "The burden of proof lies with the person making the accusation. Why should I cooperate with you?"

Yang Zhiyan sneered again, "Use your brain, will you? Who is Qin Yuzheng? If I cheated on him, would he cherish me so much?"

Shen Yu gritted her teeth. "That's because he's love-struck."

Yang Zhiyan couldn't help but say, "You've already agreed to raise your son, so why are you making such a fuss?"

Shen Yu's expression suddenly changed. "So you're admitting that this child isn't A-Zheng's?"

Yang Zhiyan was almost laughing in exasperation. "Which part of me said the child wasn't A-Zheng's?"

Shen Yu was no longer listening. "I don't care. You have to do the amniocentesis whether you want to or not."

Nurses surrounded her, and Yang Zhiyan tried to break free, but two nurses held her arms on either side.

She was placed in a wheelchair. "Can I call Ah Zheng?"

Shen Yu stood to the side, watching her being wheeled down the corridor by the nurse. "Do you think I'm stupid? What will A-Zheng do if he finds out?"

"You are indeed hopelessly stupid." Qin Yuzheng's voice came from the end of the corridor.
