The zombies along the street and in the connecting corridors of the complex have been cleared. The SWAT team is advancing towards the main building of the commercial district—a large shopping mall. There aren't many zombies inside, and there's a chance to find a lot of usable supplies.

Qin Qian stood beside an armored vehicle by the roadside, a walkie-talkie in his hand: "The residential area has been cleared. Fifth squad, proceed to garrison. The rest of the squads, clear all zombies from the mall at full speed!"

It was a real headache for Qin Qian.

The special police detachment and the armed forces department together had more than 30 people, all fully armed and carrying machine guns, and it took them nearly three hours to clear out the Cuiping commercial area.

Lou Fengyue, a girl, single-handedly killed nearly three hundred zombies in four buildings in the residential area in less than two hours, using only a... mop handle.

If this gets out, where will the authorities put their faces?

The voice of the fifth squad leader came through the walkie-talkie: "Squad Leader Qin, a survivor has been found in Building D of the residential area. He claims to be a superhuman and wants to come with us."

"What kind of superpower?"

"He said it was wind-based, but he didn't show it, so it doesn't seem very reliable..."

Before Qin Qian could answer, a tall, thin figure ran out of the community gate, followed by two SWAT officers who couldn't catch up with him.

"That's me! Wind type! I can run!" Chen Yue rushed in front of Qin Qian, unable to brake in time, and almost crashed into the armored vehicle. "My name is Chen Yue, resident of the 18th floor of Building D. Are you recruiting superhumans? I'm signing up!"

Qin Qian sized him up, his gaze lingering on his overly bright puppy-dog eyes. After a couple of seconds of silence, he asked, "Do you know Loulan?"

"Loulan? Who?"

"It's..." Qin Qian paused, "...a girl who was wrapped up very tightly and was killing zombies with a stick."

Chen Yue's eyes lit up instantly: "I know her! She saved me! She knows ice and wood magic, she's amazing! Is she joining us? Where is she? I want to team up with her!"

Qin Qian didn't answer, but instead gave the special police officer beside him a wink: "Take him to register."

As Chen Yue was being led away, he kept looking back, muttering, "Is she coming or not? She's so strong, you have to bring her here!"

Qin Qian rubbed his temples and looked up in the direction of Building A.

He picked up his phone and sent another message to Lou Fengyue: {We have already stationed people in the residential area, and someone will come to register the number of survivors shortly.}

The message was sent, and the other end immediately replied: {So?}

Qin Qian: {As instructed by higher authorities, once the safe zone is completed, all survivors, including you, will be under unified management.}

Loulan: {Oh.}

Qin Qian stared at the word "Oh," feeling his head grow even bigger.

This doesn't seem like something they can control!

"Captain Qin, something terrible has happened!"

The door of the armored vehicle behind them was suddenly flung open, and a female SWAT officer poked her head out. "It seems the gunfire attracted the zombies; a large number of zombies are surging towards the safe zone from all sides!"

Qin Qian immediately crawled into the carriage to watch the footage transmitted back by the drone.

Large groups of zombies, baring their fangs and claws, were moving toward this direction from all four directions: east, west, south, and north.

The north side has the most, with large areas of old residential buildings in that direction.

In peacetime, the area was overcrowded and lacked security. After the virus spread, it became the place with the fastest infection rate and the most zombies.

The screen displayed a dense mass of black heads, making one's hair stand on end. There must be three or four hundred of them just on the north side.

Qin Qian's pupils contracted sharply, and his heart raced. This was—a zombie horde?!

He quickly picked up the walkie-talkie and shouted, "Attention all units! Attention all units!! A large number of zombies are attacking the safe zone. Concentrate fire immediately to suppress them!! Protect the safety of the residents!!!"

All special police teams acted swiftly, positioning themselves at several intersections, ready to counterattack at any moment and protect the newly cleared security zone.

In apartment 3703 of building A, Lou Fengyue sat on the windowsill in the living room, lifting the curtains to look out into the distance.

A zombie horde?

No, a zombie horde is a large-scale attack led by high-level zombies and carried out by low-level zombies.

Judging from the state of those zombies, they seemed more like they were attracted by the gunfire.

The SWAT team has been deployed at all intersections, each officer carrying a gun, determined to fight the zombies to the bitter end.

Lou Fengyue admires them greatly; even in peacetime, they risk their lives to protect the people.

In the apocalypse where everyone was in danger, they still dared to be at the forefront when faced with monsters that had never appeared before.

Although she didn't want to get involved with the authorities, it didn't mean she was happy to see these people who blindly "obeyed orders" go to their deaths.

Lou Fengyue jumped off the windowsill, grabbed her phone from the tea table, and made a voice call to Qin Qian.

The call was connected almost instantly.

"Tell your men to stop firing, cease all fire, and take cover on the upper floors of the building. Don't stay on the first floor," she snapped at them.

Qin Qian paused for a few seconds, "But what if these zombies flood in—"

"We can clear them out if they flood in, but your teammates who get bitten will just die." Lou Fengyue sat by the window, quietly watching the situation downstairs.

Qin Qian remained silent for a few seconds, and the first burst of gunfire came through the walkie-talkie.

"But—" He had just opened his mouth when Lou Fengyue interrupted him.

"Your men can't hold them off. Once you run out of bullets, you'll be sitting ducks." Her voice wasn't loud, but it pierced Qin Qian's ears like nails. "Retreat to the second floor or above, and seal off the doors and windows on the first floor. The zombies won't come upstairs on their own. Without sound and smell stimulation, they'll just be a bunch of headless flies."

Qin Qian gripped the walkie-talkie tightly, the veins on the back of his hand bulging.

He glanced at the images transmitted back by the drone.

The street behind Yunhe Residential Area to the north is about to fall; the horde of zombies is only two hundred meters from the nearest defensive line.

"Attention everyone! Cease firing, retreat to the upper floors of the building, and seal off the first-floor entrances and exits!" he ordered through gritted teeth.

A few puzzled questions came through the walkie-talkie, but military orders were absolute, and the SWAT team quickly retreated, disappearing into the doors of shops and residential buildings along the street.

The gunfire stopped.

Having lost the guidance of sound, the horde of zombies lingered at the intersection for a while before beginning to wander aimlessly.

Some crashed into armored vehicles, some crept along the wall into the entrance of Huanhehui Shopping Mall, and a small number staggered towards Cuiping Urban Complex.

Lou Fengyue jumped off the windowsill, put on the sneakers that weren't completely dry, and pulled the rotten wooden stick out of her spatial storage.

Pan Quan poked her head out from the kitchen: "Yueyue, going out again?"

"The sales target has been delivered to my door, I'll go downstairs to pick up a package." Lou Fengyue said casually, put on her mask and baseball cap, opened the steel door and went out.

In the corridor, Lu An and Chu Sinian were already waiting at the door.

"Sister Loulan, a lot of zombies have come to the road to the west. It's just a wall separating our community from it. Will they climb over and get in?" Lu An asked with a mix of worry and excitement, as if she had seen another great opportunity to level up.

Lou Fengyue glanced at them: "Go and guard the entrance of the community. Don't let the zombies in, and don't make too much noise."

"clear!"
