Chapter 565 The Sunken Coordinates! The Route to Laugh Tale
New World, Thousand Sunny.
Three days after the Battle of Beehive Island ended, the sky finally cleared up completely.
A gentle sea breeze propelled the sails, and the Thousand Sunny sailed along the route that Nami had temporarily decided upon.
Many of the wounded on deck have recovered, and the usual noise has returned, but the chart room inside the ship remains tightly closed.
In the center of the room, four rubbings of the historical texts of road signs covered the long table.
Robin sat at the table, with a thick stack of notes in front of him.
She has been working continuously for a long time and has hardly left the place except for short breaks.
She copied down each ancient character from the four rubbings individually.
Through repeated comparisons, the originally scattered content has gradually been connected into complete information.
Nami stood on the other side, surrounded by modern nautical charts, permanent pointer records, and ancient world maps brought from Elbaf.
Since there wasn't enough room on the table, she nailed more nautical charts to the wall, the dense lines almost covering the entire room.
Viktor leaned against the window, not disturbing the two.
As for Luffy, he was lying outside the door.
"Is it ready yet?"
He squeezed his head through the crack in the door, looking expectantly at Robin and Nami.
Nami's forehead veins throbbed, and she grabbed a ruler from the table and smashed it over her shoulder.
"You asked me that just half an hour ago!"
Luffy quickly pulled his head back, and the ruler flew out, grazing his straw hat, and hit Usopp who was hiding behind him.
"Why am I the one who got hurt?!"
A commotion soon erupted outside the door.
Nami slammed the door shut, returned to the table, and said irritably, "If that idiot comes in a few more times, I'll tie him to the mast."
Robin put down his pen and looked at her with a smile.
"Perfect timing, I'm already done."
Nami's movements stopped instantly.
Viktor also came over from the window.
Robin placed four sheets of paper filled with translations on the table one by one.
Each road sign's historical text records a location, along with a set of coordinates composed of ancient numbers.
The four locations are connected in pairs, and the point where they intersect is the final island.
This is no different from the information they had in the past.
The real problem lies in the fourth rubbing.
"The ancient script here has always been considered part of the location," Robin pointed to the last line, "but combined with the grammatical records left by Dr. Clover, it doesn't actually represent the island's name, but rather a navigational guide."
Nami immediately looked down.
Robin slowly read the translation aloud.
"When the four crimson guiding lights converge, they sink into the forgotten sea."
"Beyond the sun that no longer shines, the end awaits in the old world."
A brief silence fell over the room.
Nami frowned and picked up the ancient world map again.
"The forgotten sea...the old world..."
She overlaid ancient maps onto modern nautical charts and constantly adjusted the scale of the two maps.
The island outlines in the two maps are significantly different; many areas now covered by seawater were depicted as mountains and towns on the ancient maps.
One of the ancient islands that served as a landmark has disappeared into the waters of the New World.
This was the fourth coordinate she had been unable to confirm before, no matter what she tried.
Because that island is no longer in the sea.
"The coordinates aren't wrong."
Nami looked up, an expression of disbelief in her eyes.
"It's the sea that has changed."
Robin nodded slightly.
"When this ancient map was drawn, the world's sea level was much lower than it is now."
"Later, something happened, and large areas of land were submerged by the sea, turning the original islands into underwater ruins."
"The historical text of the road sign uses geography from 800 years ago. We keep looking for it in the context of the present world, so naturally we can't get the correct answer."
Nami quickly picked up a pen and remarked the fourth coordinate on the ancient map.
The four locations were connected in sequence, and the two red lines finally converged deep within the new world.
That location has no islands on modern nautical charts, and is far from regular shipping routes; it is simply marked as a dangerous sea area shrouded in thick fog and whirlpools year-round.
Nami then searched for nearby ocean current records.
After a while, she finally noticed an anomaly that had been overlooked.
"Every so often, a huge current flows downhill here."
"Navigators of the past called it an underwater waterfall; any ship that was swept in never came back."
Viktor looked at the intersection on the map.
"So, those ships weren't destroyed by the whirlpool, but were carried to where they are now beneath the surface?"
"At least that's a possibility." Nami nodded. "If this translation is correct, the entrance to Laugh Tale is in that sinking current."
She drew a circle around that sea area with her pen and marked three different current directions at different times next to it.
"What's more troublesome is that this current doesn't always exist."
"Records from nearby islands show that whenever the fog is at its thickest, the sea surface will briefly collapse towards the center."
"It will last no more than half an hour, after which the vortex will disappear."
"If we miss the entrance, we'll crash into the underwater mountains. If we enter too early, we might be torn apart by the turbulence."
"The Sunny must descend into the center the instant the current is fully formed."
Robin looked at the last sentence on the rubbing.
"The sun that no longer shines may refer to the thick fog."
"There is no sunlight there all year round, only the route into the seabed."
"It could be somewhere even deeper," Victor said.
"Since the old world of eight hundred years ago was submerged by the sea, Laugh Tale may not just be a sunken island."
"That area of the sea may still retain some kind of space that isolates it from the seawater."
Nami did not deny it.
The map can only tell them where the entrance is.
What lies beyond the entrance, no one knows.
She paused, her expression turning serious again.
"But this also means that we will have to sink the Sunny into the sea."
Users of Devil Fruit abilities cannot swim.
If the hull breaks down during the sinking process, the consequences would be unimaginable.
Not to mention the terrifying pressures on the seabed and the unknown ocean currents that have no nautical charts to record.
Victor wasn't too worried.
"I can protect the hull, and even if there are problems with the ocean currents, I can get the Sunny back to the surface."
"That's our last resort," Nami said seriously. "Once we're actually in that area, we can't put all our hopes on a last-minute response."
"We need to accurately determine when the ocean current will appear, and we also need to have Franky reinforce the hull in advance."
"In addition, sufficient air, lighting, and emergency food should be prepared."
"Once we dive, the logging needle will most likely become completely unusable. At that point, the only people we can rely on are those on the ship."
Victor smiled.
"It sounds no different from how we got here."
Nami paused for a moment, then laughed.
indeed so.
They had never traveled a route that could be reached by relying on the experience of their predecessors.
Robin looked at the reappearing sea routes on the ancient map, her eyes filled with complex emotions.
Scholars in Ohara spent their entire lives studying these materials, but they never found out what they ultimately pointed to. They even paid the price with the lives of the entire island.
But today, twenty-two years later, those words that the world government tried to burn have finally pieced together a path to the truth.
"PhD."
Robin reached out and stroked the yellowed map, a gentle smile playing on her lips.
"Ohara did not fail."
……
A moment later, the door to the chart room finally opened.
Luffy, Usopp, and Chopper, who were eavesdropping at the door, lost their balance and fell flat on their faces.
Sanji stood to the side with food in his hands, and Zoro, Franky, and Brook had also come to the deck.
"Did you find it?!"
Luffy didn't care that his face was all red from the fall. He got up and rushed to Nami.
Nami raised the sea chart in her hand.
"Found it."
The deck fell silent instantly.
"Laugh Tale is not on the sea now, but near the sea of the Old World."
"To get there, you must enter a special ocean current that sinks to the seabed."
After hearing the explanation, Usopp's face turned pale.
"Wait a moment!"
"You're not talking about ordinary diving, but rather having the entire ship dragged into the deep sea by a waterfall-like current?"
"What if the ship leaks? What if there are monsters on the seabed? What if that current leads directly to hell?!"
Chopper was also frightened and hid behind Robin.
"We have so many Devil Fruit users on our ship!"
Franky punched himself in the chest and burst into excited laughter.
"Leave it to me!"
"The Sunshine is a dream ship built by Adam the Tree."
"Forget about underwater waterfalls, even if it means driving all the way to hell, I'll make sure you get there intact!"
Brooke raised his hand: "If I get to Hell, I might even run into people I know. Even though I've already died once, hohohoho!"
"Don't say such unlucky things before you set off!"
Usopp and Chopper shouted at the same time.
Zoro glanced at the sea chart and said calmly, "Since the direction is down, we shouldn't get lost."
Nami glared at him immediately: "You're the last person who has the right to say that!"
Chaos erupted on the deck once again.
Luffy, however, kept his eyes fixed on the sea chart, his smile growing wider and wider.
He didn't care at all whether Raphdru was on the surface of the sea, at the bottom of the sea, or in some so-called hell.
He was determined to see it for himself, as long as it was the end of his adventure.
"Nami, where is that current?"
Nami walked to the ship's wheel, re-compared the recorder to the nautical chart, and then pointed to the right front of the Sunny.
"At the current speed, it will take about seven days to reach the entrance sea area."
"However, from this point onward, there are no reliable record pointers."
The next course will depend solely on my nautical charts and ocean currents.
Luffy put his straw hat on his head and jumped directly onto the lion's head at the bow of the ship.
"Then it's up to you!"
"Frankie, turn!" Nami ordered simultaneously. "Target: the nameless sea at the deepest part of the New World!"
"SUPER—Leave it to me!"
Franky quickly adjusted the sails, and the Thousand Sunny drew a huge arc on the sea, heading towards a route that had never been recorded before.
A sea breeze blows in my face.
Luffy stood at the bow of the ship, gazing at the increasingly thick clouds in the distance, and burst into laughter with his arms outstretched.
"Set off!"
"Laugh Tale! Here I come!!"
