Game of Thrones: Dance of the Dragons
Chapter 6 Aegon and Helena
"Good evening, Father."
With his hands behind his back, dressed in a gentle white suit, Baylor exuded an indescribable sense of warmth.
"Baelor, my child, welcome home!" Viserys was the first to stand up and applaud.
At that moment, he began to understand why those noble lords particularly favored a polite and outstanding eldest son.
To his right, Alison, dressed in a long emerald green dress and maintaining the proper etiquette of a queen, smiled and said, "Welcome back, my child."
Beside Alison, five-year-old Aegon was happily eating a chicken leg, and three-year-old Helena was intently playing with a bug. After seeing their father and mother's behavior, they imitated them and said welcoming words.
Beller observed the actions and behavior of everyone before him. After thanking them one by one, he followed his sister Rhaenyra and sat down on Viserys' left.
After everyone was seated, the family dinner quickly began in a lively atmosphere.
Viserys, as king, raised his glass of red wine first, "My child, you have only recently returned to the Red Keep. If you are missing anything, just tell your stepmother."
"Baylor, I am Allison Hightower." Allison stood up and introduced herself with great gentleness.
"So, you are Queen Allison Hightower. I've long admired your name since I was in Old Town. Meeting you today, I can see that you truly live up to your reputation." Baylor's words were barbed, yet no one could find fault with them.
As expected, Alison maintained the smile befitting a stepmother, but in reality, she nervously picked at her fingers.
As Renilla ate her bread and ham, she couldn't help but turn her face away and chuckle after hearing Baylor's words.
Only she knew that her brother, who appeared polite and gentle on the surface, had a darker side than black steel.
Allison, that idiot, didn't even bother to do any research before daring to put on a show of being a virtuous wife and loving mother in front of Baylor. Isn't this a classic case of shooting herself in the foot?
Viserys was oblivious to the undercurrent in their words. He believed that only by bringing his family together could the Targaryen dynasty's rule be truly secure!
"Baelor, this is your brother Aegon, the girl next to him is your sister Helena, and there's also Aymond in his swaddling clothes..."
At this moment, Viserys was like a great navigator returning home in triumph. In front of his family, he placed his most treasured possessions one by one on the table, allowing them to praise and admire them to their heart's content.
Baylor listened patiently, responding appropriately while glancing at Aegon and Helena, the brother and sister who didn't seem very bright.
One of them was only focused on eating, while the other was holding a glass bottle, looking at the various reptiles inside with curiosity and excitement.
Then look at him and his sister, isn't the difference between them huge?
Could it be that the Heitel family is born with a gene for stupidity? Baylor frowned slightly, pondering seriously in his heart.
The elaborate family feast prepared for Baelor ended after half an hour, citing King Viserys's drunkenness as the reason.
The maids and royal guards were responsible for taking care of and escorting the king back to his room. Allison's role was simply to play the role of a virtuous wife, preparing bathwater and hangover soup for her husband.
"Belle, Renilla, I have things to attend to. If you need anything, just call me anytime," Allison said, trying to sound like a gentle stepmother.
Baylor slightly raised the glass in his hand and smiled as he greeted Allison.
Renilla simply didn't want to acknowledge her. In her mind, watching Helena play with bugs was better than seeing that bitch Allison!
After Allison left, only the four children remained at the scene.
Baylor was feeling a bit tired. His health had never been very good, and the maesters of the Red Keep had advised him to rest more and avoid overexerting himself.
"Sister, I'm tired. I'm going back to your room to rest."
Allison had carefully prepared a very spacious room for him, a very quiet and secluded place that would be impossible to find unless one specifically sought it out.
"Oh? Not going? How about we celebrate with our wonderful stepmother and get you the room she's prepared for you?" Renilla teased with a smile.
"Don't rush, our good stepmother won't be laughing when the royal guards go hunting." Prince already had a plan in mind, and it was just a matter of whether his good stepmother could handle it.
Just as the two were about to get up and leave, Egan, who had just finished eating two chicken legs, sneaked over nervously.
"What are you doing?" Baylor asked, puzzled.
Aegon didn't speak, but instead looked around with his purple eyes, as if he had done something wrong. After confirming that his mother wasn't there, he visibly relaxed.
"I see there's still a chicken leg on your table that you haven't finished eating. Could I have it?"
"It is possible."
"There are clearly many more on the table, why don't you take the ones on the table and instead take mine?" Baylor couldn't understand what this kid was thinking.
"My mother said that I will become the king of the Seven Kingdoms in the future, and my body cannot be too fat," Aegon said truthfully.
Upon hearing this, Renilla's expression changed visibly. She seemed surprised that her mother would educate this boy, who was once so timid that he was even afraid of dragons, in such a way.
"The king's eldest son is still alive, does that bitch Allison really want to die?!"
Baylor, however, remained expressionless, handing the chicken leg on the table to Aegon. "So, what are your thoughts?"
The important thing is not how Allison raises her children, but whether Aegon himself has such thoughts.
"No, my father has told me several times that my brother is the rightful heir to the Iron Throne, and I am just the second son."
"Besides, if I become the heir to the Iron Throne, I won't be able to eat good food or play fun games outside. How boring!" Aegon protested angrily.
He's only five years old, the age when he loves to play the most. How could he possibly choose to study in the Red Castle?
"Very good, my brother. You must always remember what you said today, because it will protect you for the rest of your life."
Baylor patted his head and spoke in an elder brother's tone, "I assure you, starting tomorrow, your mother will no longer force you to do these things."
"This is fantastic!" Egan excitedly grabbed the chicken leg from the plate and happily ran back to his room.
His father had told him that the heir to the Iron Throne was a man of his word, and that he would always keep his promises!
After watching Aegon leave, the siblings couldn't help but exchange a look of utter disgust.
They couldn't help but wonder, was Aegon really a Targaryen? Why did he seem like the simple-minded son of a country lord?
"A wise choice."
"The dragon is back! The black dragon has flown out of King's Landing!" Helena muttered like a madwoman, clutching her glass jar.
