Mystery: Death Singer

Chapter 3 Shocking Change

That night, Edric lay in his empty rented room with only a wooden bed, staring blankly at the quiet night sky outside the window.

Perhaps because the one-bedroom apartment was so unprofitable in this building, it had remained unrented for so long. When Mr. Frank heard that he was renting the apartment alone, he immediately jumped up from his seat. The entire conversation was quite relaxed and pleasant, showing none of the stingy and greedy character from the original story.

It's worth mentioning that just as Edric opened the door and was about to put his luggage from Crescent Town into the room, he caught a glimpse of a young man in a suit holding a silver-inlaid cane at the bottom of the stairs. Only then did he realize that the room he had rented was on the same floor as the Klein family's.

Edric didn't rush up to greet them; he simply nodded to Klein.

Although he didn't have many clear memories, Edric remembered that Klein was currently in the "story" and how could he possibly willingly plunge into this bottomless vortex?

Only when Zhou Mingrui, whose name is "Klein," dies will it be the best time for Edric to safely make contact with him.

Before he knew it, night had fallen. Feeling a slight bloating in his lower abdomen, Edric got out of bed and headed to the public restroom at the other end of the corridor.

Even before boarding the carriage, Edric had already planned out his general itinerary in Tingen.

With the money he had saved over the past three years, plus the inheritance left by old York, after paying three months' rent and deducting the food expenses for the next three months, he would probably have a little over six pounds left.

If this amount of money is only used to maintain a decent life for an ordinary cemetery employee, it is more than enough.

However, if Edric wants to pursue the next series of potion recipes and materials, then the only way to describe his current situation is "starting from scratch".

As everyone knows, the most profitable methods are written in the criminal code. Edric realized early on that he, a mere "corpse collector," was no match for Rune's official extraordinary beings.

Therefore, Edric never intended to take the "evil path" from the very beginning. If he hadn't remembered that there was a good-natured "corpse collector" in Tingen City who offered him a chance to get the next potion recipe for free, he probably would have already boarded a ship to go out to sea by now.

After all, hunting pirates and wanted criminals is a legitimate job in this world, even if it's a bit dangerous, it's still better than going out alone to fight a whole organization of official extraordinary individuals.

So this time, when Edrik came to Tingen to make a living, his main goal was to "behave himself and keep to his own business." While working honestly in the cemetery, he also tried to make contact with Mr. Azik, who might very well be the one to find gold coins.

If all goes well, he plans to meet with the "Master of the Bathroom" after Klein's sacrifice and temporary departure from the story's focus, since, to be fair, Zhou Mingrui is indeed a genuinely good person.

Edric strode into the washroom, enduring the pungent smell as he turned on the tap. Just as he shook his gun, preparing to wash his hands and leave, he suddenly saw dreamlike ripples appearing on the wall in front of him.

This is… Before Edric could react to what was happening, a sudden spiritual intuition surged within him, and he abruptly turned to look at the corridor outside the washroom.

Despite the walls and doors blocking his view, Edric could still clearly sense the three uninvited guests. Judging from their unusually active spiritual reactions, all three were extraordinary beings.

An official Beyonder… A sense of unease flashed through Edric’s mind, and he subconsciously softened all his movements, trying his best to avoid appearing in front of an official Beyonder unexpectedly in this unprepared situation.

Just then, Edric suddenly felt a bone-chilling cold rising around him. He looked around warily and discovered that the bathroom floor was covered with an eerie, dark green light.

This eerie light seemed to have a life of its own; the moment Edric noticed it, it suddenly sprang up from the ground, encompassing him and the surrounding walls.

The biting cold grew even more intense, and patches of menacing, crystalline frost spread across the floor and walls of the washroom.

Realizing the situation might be turning bad, Edric was about to call for help from the three official Beyonders in the corridor.

He had never killed anyone. Even if his extraordinary identity was exposed under the watchful eyes of the official extraordinary beings, he would only be subject to supervision. However, the scene in the restroom clearly indicated that the visitor was hostile, and no one could predict just how great the danger it contained was.

As the saying goes, when faced with two evils, choose the lesser. Edric didn't even need half a second before opening his mouth to call for help, taking "acting from the heart" to the extreme.

But in that instant, an even more sinister pale light suddenly erupted from between his eyebrows. This light easily suppressed the dark green light and thus occupied the entire bathroom.

Before Edric could figure out what had happened, his vision went black and he collapsed, his unconscious body sinking into the pale light as if falling into water, disappearing from the bathroom.

From the moment Edric noticed something amiss and tried to call for help until he disappeared into the pale light, the three official Beyonders nearby didn't notice anything unusual. They continued to wait in the corridor as planned, hoping that Klein inside the house would force the intruder out.

As the frost in the restroom began to melt and all the strangeness began to fade rapidly, one of the three official extraordinary individuals, a young man, suddenly tilted his head and then glanced questioningly at the public restroom at the end of the corridor.

"Old man, are you sure you're not mistaken? There seems to be nothing there."

Leonard Mitchell was not surprised to receive no response; after all, that was just the old man's personality—he often said strange things that left him scratching his head.

However, considering the newly recruited civilian employee Klein, and his family still living here, Leonard shrugged and pointed to the nearby restroom after Captain Dunn Smith had the target under control:

"Captain, I suddenly have a stomachache, I need to go over there to relieve myself."

Dunn glanced at the restroom at the end of the corridor. He was quite certain that there was nothing amiss inside. Only then, while putting the suspect in front of him into a dream, did he nod slightly and say, "Go quickly and come back quickly."

Leonard walked calmly towards the restroom, but in reality, he had already secretly raised his guard to the highest level. After carefully checking the restroom and confirming that there was nothing wrong, he then began to mentally accuse the place in frustration:

"Old man, this kind of prank isn't fun at all. I'm working right now!"

"...Perhaps."
