I opened a clinic in the Abyss World
Chapter 420 An Invitation from Anderson
"Hello." Charlotte nodded and looked the two of them over.
Hannah was tall and had long, naturally curly brown hair, a rarity among elves, making her look quite gentle and charming.
Rachel has a slightly chubby figure, but most of her weight is in the right places, and her slightly round face makes her look quite cute.
The two looked to be around eighteen or nineteen years old, full of energy and with a sparkle in their eyes.
"You're sending all the talents from the temple to me, aren't you? Does your master know about this?" Charlotte asked Lois with a smile.
Lois shook her head: "I haven't told him yet. The main reason is that time is tight and you don't have time to conduct interviews. I know our people well, so I feel at ease entrusting it to you."
Charlotte nodded, quite confident in Lois's judgment. Looking at the two, she said, "Hannah, Rachel, are you truly committed to becoming doctors? Studying medicine is a tedious and arduous task, as you both saw today. Becoming a doctor might mean this is your daily routine. If you don't want to, you can still quit now. Once you're in the abyss, quitting will be considered desertion."
"I want to become a doctor, like you and them, to heal and save lives," Hannah said very firmly.
"Me too," Rachel nodded. "Actually, one of the patients you treated today is my cousin. She's had a broken arm for several days, and if it weren't for you, she might be disabled. I've been wanting to do something for her these past few days, but my abilities are very limited; I have neither money nor skills. But if I could become a doctor, I could help many more people."
Charlotte nodded: "Okay, welcome to the Abyss Medical Center."
Hannah and Rachel were stunned for a moment, then their faces lit up with happy smiles. Rachel jumped up with joy, her chest heaving.
They were initially a little apprehensive, wondering if Dr. Charlotte would reject them.
When the saint found them, she was completely dazed. Who could have imagined that their peaceful lives would be disrupted in this way?
"Lois should have already told you that we're about to leave the Elf City for the Abyss, so there won't be time for you to say goodbye to your families. Is that a problem?" Charlotte asked the two of them.
"No problem." The two shook their heads in unison.
"We told our families about this before we came, and with Her Highness the Holy Maiden vouching for us, they are all at ease," Hannah explained.
"Alright, let's get ready to go then." Charlotte nodded.
"Master, where is Evelyn? Is she still sleeping at her residence?" Kasha stepped forward and whispered.
Charlotte looked around and indeed couldn't see Evelyn anywhere. Look at the way she's raising that child.
"Evelyn is sleeping in my carriage," Lois said.
"I'll go get her." Kasha walked quickly toward the carriage and soon returned carrying Evelyn, who was still fast asleep.
"This guy missed out on a delicious late-night snack."
Lois laughed and said, "She didn't miss out. She ate before coming, and she ate even better than you guys."
"That's good, so she won't complain that we didn't invite her when we had something delicious." Charlotte looked at Lois, smiled, and waved. "Well then, Lois, goodbye."
"Goodbye, Charlotte," Lois said, smiling at him.
She was an elven saintess, burdened with too many responsibilities, and ultimately could not express her feelings as boldly and directly as that young girl.
Like a roc spreading its wings, soaring upwards, the group left the Elf City in the dead of night and flew towards the abyss.
On the way back, there were ten more people than when we came.
This recruitment drive was a great success, far exceeding Charlotte's expectations.
Hannah and Rachel introduced themselves again, getting to know everyone at the clinic.
"Actually, our clinic should be called the Elf Clinic. We just need to stick on a pointed ear. That should make it easier to gain recognition than the Abyss Clinic, since it's full of handsome elves," Vivian said with a smile.
Charlotte laughed upon hearing this. The clinic now has fourteen elves, which is indeed a high number of elves.
Kasha reported today's income to Charlotte. A total of 1242 patients were treated, with medical fees amounting to 1124640 copper coins, while potion sales reached an astonishing 1364000 copper coins!
Total income: 2488640 copper coins!
It almost reached 2.5 million copper coins.
This is absolutely the highest-earning day in the history of the Abyss Medical Center!
Charlotte was a little confused. She knew that the potion sales were particularly good today. Many elves thought they would not be able to buy the potions after they left, so they stocked up in large quantities. Among them were mercenary groups making bulk purchases.
Among these, antidotes are the best-selling and most popular.
Charlotte suspects that someone is deliberately buying up large quantities of the potions, intending to stockpile them and sell them slowly later.
Just take antidote medicine as an example. After acquiring a batch of antidote medicine, open a clinic that specializes in treating snake bites. Charge 10,000 copper coins per patient. As long as the patient is still alive, carry them to the clinic, feed them the antidote medicine, and the cure rate is as high as 90%. Do you think this clinic can make money?
This specialist clinic will definitely be able to open up sales channels very quickly and gain the title of a miracle doctor.
Regardless, it's a good thing that the medicine is selling well.
This not only made his wallet fatter, but also gave the pharmaceutical trading center under construction a good start.
The group chatted idly, and the presence of so many elves helped to dispel much of the sadness of parting for the newlyweds.
However, everyone was too tired today. After chatting for a while, they gradually fell silent and fell asleep one by one.
Myron: ...
What should I do? I'm still perfectly sober!
He was the only one in the room who had finished half a bottle of Golden Stamina. He could feel the fatigue in his body, but his mind was clear, very clear.
Everyone was asleep except Betty, and he didn't dare wake anyone up for a chat, so he could only lean back in his chair and count the stars.
One, two, three...
"Myron, wake up, we're almost at the abyss."
Myron, who had just fallen asleep, was shaken awake. He opened his eyes with a bewildered look on his face and heard a series of exclamations of praise.
Wow! What a beautiful sunrise over the sea!
"So this is Kalva! The giant lantern is indeed magnificent!"
Most of the newlyweds were leaving the Elf Forest for the first time, seeing the sea for the first time, and meeting Kalva for the first time. When they woke up and saw these beautiful sights, they all had excited expressions on their faces.
Then, amidst the crowd's praises, the roc plunged headfirst into a narrow, dark abyss.
"Welcome to the Abyss," Charlotte said with a smile.
The fog was thick, the air was somewhat polluted, and it was all dim, with only a white line across the sky.
Everyone immediately fell silent.
The contrast between this and the vast, boundless sea and the magnificent Kalva that they had just seen was so great that it was hard for them to accept it for a moment.
"Let's go down to the roof of the new medical building over there," Charlotte instructed Betty.
Betty rode the roc and landed precisely on the spacious flat roof of the new medical building.
"Thank you for your hard work. Please convey my gratitude to Lois and the High Priest," Charlotte said to Betty.
"You're welcome." Betty nodded slightly, glanced at the elven children, a smile appearing on her lips, and rode away on her roc.
"This is the new Abyss Medical Clinic. You've come at just the right time. The old clinic wouldn't have been able to accommodate so many doctors. Come on, let me show you around and show you where you'll be working..." Vivian had already led everyone downstairs for a tour.
Myron blinked, trying to lift his eyelids, but he was too sleepy and swayed as if he could fall asleep at any moment.
Amir looked after him with some concern.
Charlotte and Amilo instructed, "Send him back to sleep; he's not fit to be treated in this condition."
"Teacher, is the new clinic officially opening today?" Myron asked Charlotte, trying to open his eyes wide.
"Yes, we're officially opening today." Charlotte nodded. "We've already been delayed for three days. If we didn't open today, it would be a bit unreasonable."
"Then I won't go to sleep." Myron immediately perked up. "How can I go to sleep at such an important moment?"
"Aren't you sleepy?" Charlotte asked with a smile.
Myron asked cautiously, "Could I buy a bottle of Golden Stamina Potion myself? It'll definitely stop making me sleepy."
"No need to buy it, I'll just give you a bottle." Charlotte took out a bottle of potion and handed it to him. "But you can only drink half of it, and after this morning, go back to sleep immediately. The potion isn't a cure-all; you need to make up for lost sleep."
"Thank you, teacher!" Myron said happily, unscrewing the bottle cap and downing half the bottle in one gulp. He immediately felt refreshed and his fatigue vanished.
"Teacher, it seems there are already patients queuing up down there," Amiro reminded him.
Charlotte peeked out and saw that there were indeed forty or fifty people queuing and watching in front of the new medical clinic.
The earlier landing of the roc had attracted their attention, and Charlotte's peeking out caused even more commotion among the crowd.
"Dr. Charlotte! It really is Dr. Charlotte back!"
"Are you open today?! My legs are practically rotting away!"
"Dr. Charlotte, help!"
Since there was no way to hide, Charlotte braced herself against the railing, leaned out, and shouted, "Patients and customers, we're back! The new clinic opens for business promptly at eight o'clock this morning! Please inform each other!"
Upon hearing this, the crowd erupted in enthusiastic cheers.
Charlotte went downstairs, and everyone, led by Vivian, had already toured the clinic, their expressions all somewhat shocked.
The temporary clinic from a few days ago was too rudimentary, but the new medical center, which has not yet been officially put into use, was so well-equipped that it gave them a slight shock.
Charlotte gathered everyone together and announced, "I have just informed the patients waiting in line that the new clinic will officially open at eight o'clock. Now let's arrange the staff."
"Everything has been moved over. We can open for business right away. What else do you need to arrange?" Vivian asked him.
"Kasha will be in charge of the pharmacy sales hall by herself today, and she won't be able to handle the cashier duties as well. We also need to arrange for someone to handle the queuing system." Charlotte directly assigned, "Myron, you and Clara will be in charge of receiving patients with minor injuries and issuing numbers, and also overseeing the billing for the three emergency operating rooms on the first floor."
"Okay, teacher." Myron and Clara nodded.
"Bernie, go upstairs to help Amirlo. Learn the basics of surgery from him, collect his medical fees, and handle other matters."
"Okay, teacher." Bernie nodded.
"Newman, you'll stay with Amiro and work as his surgical assistant."
"Yes, teacher." Newman nodded.
……
Charlotte assigned tasks to everyone.
There are some miscellaneous tasks that they shouldn't be doing, but since we can't find suitable candidates for them right now, we have to let them fill in for the time being.
When he has free time, he must go to Diana and get a few experienced workers from her for free. Cashier, receptionist, and medicine sales are all very important positions, but they are also relatively easy to replace. It would be best to get experienced workers.
Charlotte then redistributed the operating rooms. There were three emergency operating rooms on the first floor. He and Vivian each had one, and Lina had one. Amiro and Myron's operating rooms were on the second floor, and their positions were assigned directly to them.
Having a separate consultation room and operating room made the other new trainees, such as Kathleen and Bernie, extremely envious.
"Don't be too envious. The effort your seniors put in to get such an operating room is beyond your imagination. Keep up the good work, and you'll have one too someday," Myron encouraged them.
Everyone nodded in deep agreement, their eyes resolute, as if they had made up their minds to work hard and strive to gain a place in the Abyss Medical Clinic as soon as possible.
All equipment and medicines have been checked and found to be in place; everything is ready.
Vivian suddenly said, "By the way, haven't we had breakfast yet?"
"Breakfast? Where is breakfast?"
Evelyn, who had been fast asleep on the bench, suddenly sat up and looked around. "Where am I?"
"There's no time to make breakfast now. I'm going back to the old clinic anyway, so I'll bring you some bread later," Charlotte said, walking towards the side door.
"I need to go back and change into my work clothes too." Vivian quickly followed.
Charlotte suddenly stopped and looked at Eunice, saying, "By the way, Eunice, today you're going to visit and learn at the potion workshop with Ino. Ino is your senior and your teacher. If you don't understand anything, just ask her. She'll teach you about potion making."
"Okay, sure!" Eunice nodded with a smile, a sweet smile on her face.
"Let's go then, go back and pack up, then go to work." Ino smiled, took Eunice's hand, and followed Charlotte and the others.
An energetic girl combined with a sweet girl—it feels like the air itself is sweet.
The new medical clinic is a separate building, with Charlotte providing a back door and a side door for easy access.
For example, there is now a long queue of hundreds of people in front of the main entrance, but they can leave the clinic through the side entrance without anyone noticing and without causing any disturbance.
However, news of Charlotte and her companions' return and their upcoming appointments at the new clinic had already spread, and many patients and customers looking to buy medicine were heading there. Quite a few people recognized Charlotte on the way.
"Dr. Charlotte, you're finally back! Look at my arm..."
"Sir, please go to the clinic up ahead and get a number. We'll go inside for your appointment. It's not appropriate for me to operate on you on the street. I just got back to the Abyss. I'll go back and change my clothes, and then I'll go to the new clinic to see patients right away," Charlotte quickly stopped the old man who was rolling up his sleeves, saying with a hint of helplessness.
The patients who had originally planned to gather around laughed upon hearing this and quickened their pace toward the new clinic.
Charlotte returned to the old clinic, where a dozen or so patients, not being well-informed, were still lingering. He had to repeat the news to them, then took a wooden board and wrote in large characters: "The clinic has moved to 800 meters ahead! Officially open for business today!"
They even thoughtfully drew an arrow.
"Hey, Dr. Charlotte, you're finally back! These past few days, patients have practically been throwing rotten eggs at your door." The bookstore owner came out and greeted Charlotte with a smile.
"It's not almost done, it's already dried out." Charlotte pointed to an eggshell next to the door frame.
The boss glanced at it and laughed, "It's alright. You see, they still have some principles; at least they didn't use rotten eggs."
Charlotte laughed too. He admitted that he was partly to blame for the incident. The clinic had closed for three days without any prior notice, causing many patients to make wasted trips, which inevitably made him resentful.
Running a clinic is different from running a restaurant. If a restaurant closes for a day, its customers won't starve to death, but if a clinic closes for a day, some patients might actually die.
"I'm not going to say anything more. I need to change my clothes and then go see the patients right away." Charlotte pushed open the door, went upstairs to take a cold shower, changed her clothes, and then went out to the bakery next door to buy twenty soft breads.
As Charlotte walked out of the bakery carrying a bag of bread wrapped in oil paper, she and Vivian had just reunited when they were stopped by a knight in soft armor with a long sword at his waist.
"Dr. Charlotte, greetings. I am a messenger sent by the lord of Calva City. Lord Anderson has asked me to extend a formal invitation to you to come to the lord's mansion. He has important matters to discuss with you." The knight bowed to him, his voice tinged with excitement.
"Lord Anderson asked you to invite me to Calva?" Charlotte glanced at the golden invitation he handed her, looking at him with some surprise. "Doesn't the lord know that I'm still on Calva's expulsion list? What if I swagger into Calva and get arrested and thrown into jail?"
"This..." The knight was stunned for a moment, and stammered, "This is the city lord's invitation. Take it into the city and no one will dare to stop you."
Charlotte shook her head: "No, that won't do. I was once a resident of Calva and know that Calva's laws are above all else. I don't believe you can say that this invitation is above the law. I've learned my lesson the hard way, so I live more cautiously now. I won't go to Calva until I'm removed from the deportation list. Please go back."
