Witch Hunter Rhapsody

Chapter 37 Under the Necromancer Tide

Helena Marlowe had Leon deliver Vitas's letter to the Viscount, while she herself began communicating with other mercenary groups.

This is a rare and valuable opportunity. Although the Flying Eagle Knights were already quite famous, they didn't actually have much contact with other mercenary groups. The presence of the monster Viya and the necromancer this time would allow them to communicate effectively with other mercenary groups and perhaps gain even more benefits.

The mercenary groups were hired to maintain order, and the viscount put in a lot of effort this time, since Authem was his fiefdom, and it was his duty to take care of the city.

"We've been finding more and more bodies lately."

"Have you encountered any undead over there?"

"I don't know. I was just about to come over and say so."

Helena discussed the recent defensive situation with the others.

Deaths are normal, of course, and in some areas even mercenaries are allowed not to get involved.

"There are also some street controllers who are hostile towards us."

Helena fiddled with her weapon, while everyone waited for the defense to begin tonight.

"So, we..."

The conversation between several mercenary leaders was interrupted by the noise outside the door.

Helena turned her head and saw a number of mercenaries.

"Riots have broken out on Clark Street and in the Cyrillic district!"

"What?"

Helena froze. A riot?

So suddenly?

"In short, since people are attacking each other, we need to go and suppress them immediately!"

"Hey, that's really harsh! What do you mean by 'suppression'? We're supposed to be maintaining order!"

Helena had no interest in these formalities; she was only worried that this might be the work of another wizard.

She immediately picked up her weapon, went out the door, and called for her companions.

"Flying Eagle Knights, prepare yourselves immediately! We must proceed to the scene of the riot at once!"

Helena and the Flying Eagle Knights were among the first to arrive. By then, the so-called riot had begun to escalate; houses were being set on fire. Thick smoke billowed, people scattered and fled, and the commotion could be heard for miles.

Helena and her companions were fully armed as she tried to maintain order, but the fleeing residents simply wouldn't listen to her commands.

How could this happen?

Who exactly attacked them?

Helena stepped forward, sword in hand, and finally witnessed the worst she had ever imagined.

Undead Swarm.

The degree of decay of these undead varied, ranging from complete skeletons to fresh corpses that had just died, showcasing every stage of corpse decomposition.

Helena instinctively wanted to back away. This was even more terrifying than the monsters she had faced before. The thought that they had once been human, and that she might become like them, brought a sudden sense of fear that was hard to accept.

Damn it, where is Vitas?

As if in response to her call, a strange, shrill sound suddenly rang out in the air, like a whistle, the sound of wind blowing through the cave entrance.

Helena looked up and saw the most bizarre scene she had witnessed in her twenty-four years.

A skeletal dragon is swooping down.

Dragons are legendary creatures, and in every hero's story, they are the final, most powerful, and most terrifying enemy.

Contrary to popular belief, bone dragons appear to be resurrected dead dragons and theoretically should be more powerful, but in reality, bone dragons are far less powerful than living dragons.

Even so, such a huge and bizarre creature was still an insurmountable opponent for Helena and the members of the Flying Eagle Knights behind her.

Helena practically screamed.

"Everyone, get ready to defend!"

Helena's words were not heard by many in the chaos, but the enormous noise of the bone dragon flying still drew everyone's attention.

They began to panic, and some tried to escape, but the members of the Flying Eagle Knights knew that running away at this point would not end well.

They instinctively formed ranks, attempting to resist the first wave of attacks from the bone dragon.

As the bone dragon approached, many details about its body became clearer.

Helena could see its tattered wings, its trembling flight posture, and the silver-black pendant hanging on its head, which was still shaking incessantly...

Hey, that pendant looks familiar.

The bone dragon's height began to drop sharply, and it rampaged through the streets, crashing into houses and out of them.

It didn't seem like it was attacking people on the ground; it seemed more like it was trying to get rid of something.

Finally, the thing hanging on its skull flew off.

The thing adjusted its posture in mid-air, and then slid dozens of meters away the instant it made contact with the ground, knocking down a group of undead.

Helena finally recognized the guy and shouted excitedly.

"Vitas!"

The name seemed to have a magical power; when it was called out, everyone who hadn't been able to hear Helena's words before turned around immediately.

"Vitas?"

"He's here?"

Regardless of whether they were members of the Flying Eagle Knights or had ever worked with Vitas, the mercenaries had come to regard Vitas as a symbol of victory, even without Vitas's knowledge.

"Why are you fighting here too?"

Vitas returned to Helena's side. Even as he was being carried into the sky by the bone dragon, he was still worried that being taken to a residential area would cause unnecessary harm.

But after seeing the fighting in the residential area, Vitas suddenly felt that there was nothing to be particularly worried about.

"Where did you get such a dragon?"

"We've all been too high and mighty. I've overlooked the fact that our city's governance is quite poor, and those neglected communities could become direct sources of material for other wizards."

"Speak like a human being."

"These wizards are audacious; they directly controlled an entire area and obtained the raw materials themselves, which we never expected."

"Seriously, so this is why we're suddenly facing so many enemies?"

Helena swung her sword to deflect the undead's pounce, but Vitas didn't help immediately because the worst problem was the bone dragon.

"Although we are in a passive position now, at least we know that the mastermind is definitely not an individual wizard. Goodness, a bone dragon, it must be at least a faction leader."

Vitas is ready to clash with the Bone Dragon once again.

The bone dragon turned its head and looked at Vitas.

It has no reason or soul; all that remains is instinct, the instinct to kill.

"boom!"

Without any warning or preparation, a bolt of lightning struck down from the sky.

White lightning bolts pierced through the clouds and descended from the sky, striking the bone dragon's body directly. Countless bone fragments flew out, leaving even Vitas stunned.

Even after suffering such a heavy blow, the bone dragon merely raised its head and roared, but this roar was silent.

After a moment of hesitation, Vitas made his choice immediately, brandishing his sword and charging forward.

Don't be fooled by how energetic the Bone Dragon looks now; it has definitely suffered a severe blow.

Vitas's judgment was correct.

After suffering the heavy blow, many of the bones in the bone dragon's body have cracked.

He charged towards the bone dragon's attack, his longsword aimed at its neck.

The long neck was struck, the powerful force causing the bone dragon's head to tilt to the side, before it was swayed from side to side by Vitas's series of attacks.

"Get out of the way!"

A furious roar came from the sky.

Vitas immediately retreated.

A moment later, a huge fireball fell from the sky.

"oh."

Everyone was stunned. This fireball was larger than a building and could engulf the entire bone dragon with room to spare.

My God, this is simply a miracle.

The fireball engulfed the bone dragon and began to spread as it touched the ground. Eventually, the entire bone dragon and the surrounding undead were covered in flames, and a strange, burnt smell was carried away by the wind.

The bone dragon was still struggling, but in the end, it wobbled and disintegrated.

Vitas watched all this, somewhat confused about what was going on.

"Vitas".

A man's voice came from the air. He was flying in the air, wearing a long robe without any extra decorations, and holding a staff in his hand.

It's obvious that this is a wizard.

"Who are you?"

"A passing wizard, sir. The wizard who summoned these monsters has also caused me trouble. I have tracked down that guy using magic, and now I need the help of a powerful knight like you."

Vitas frowned; there wasn't much that a wizard could believe.

Who can guarantee that the wizard in front of us isn't the one who created this situation?

That guy who's always been in the shadows, that guy who's never been exposed.

"You don't have to trust me, Vitas."

He stretched out his hand.

"But I trust you."

After saying that, he descended to Vitas's side, still wearing his mask, but revealing his neck. He then pressed a small knife against his neck, drawing blood to prove that he had not activated any defensive spells.

"You can kill me now."

Vitas was convinced.

"Walk."
