Chapter 30 The Dangers of Wizards

Undead creatures are strange beings summoned by wizards specializing in necromancy using magic.

Compared to living creatures, they are tireless and painless. Although most undead creatures are not as strong as they were when they were alive, they have the advantage of numbers. They can use their numbers and still passable strength to help wizards achieve their goals.

Vitas stomped on the last undead, hating the feeling of sticky flesh and blood clinging to his shoes.

"What's going on with these undead?"

"I don't know, it's probably the work of a wizard. But never mind, that's not the most important thing. Viya's monster is currently in my residence. We'll discuss the details later. Everyone, don't abandon tactics, guard all entrances and exits, and be careful."

Vitas mentally constructed a map, marking the directions Viya's monster might have fled.

Are there any other people inside?

"Aisera is inside."

"Huh?"

Helena paused for a moment, realizing that now was not the time to talk about these things, and then immediately volunteered: "I'll go and bring Athena out."

"No, you take the men down here, I'll go up. Once Viya's monster charges down, do everything you can to stop it. We absolutely cannot let her escape!"

"clear!"

Vitas rushed into the room, where the clean walls were now stained with the blood of the undead.

There was no trace of Viya's monster.

"Aisela?"

He called out, and Etherra responded.

"Vitas, that girl rushed out and killed a spirit!"

Vitas then noticed a large hole in the wall of his house. He rushed over and saw corpses scattered on the ground. The undead's attack had been all-encompassing, but the attack from another direction had been thwarted by the monster Viya.

Following the trail on the ground, the monster Viya escaped once again.

Vitas felt an indescribable anger and irritation.

First this monster, then the wizard who controls the undead. Damn it, this city is only so big, how can it withstand such torment!

At this moment, Helena, who had risked bringing her along because she hadn't heard any commotion for a long time, turned around and said, "We must report this to the lord. A necromancer, damn it, how many people have died in this land? We have no idea how many this guy can resurrect."

……

Ortham Castle is about fifty miles northeast of the city, with several villages in between. The road is fairly smooth, and a decent carriage can reach it quickly.

Vitas hadn't dealt with people with noble titles for a long time.

The castle gates were pulled up, and as we entered the barbican, several targets were set up on the grass, where squires were practicing archery under the guidance of apprentice knights.

The Flying Eagle Knights have become guests of the Viscount; they only need to give a brief announcement to enter.

Even though he was just a viscount from a small place, he still had the servants and stewards that a nobleman should have. Vitas and the others followed the guide into the castle.

The castle was primarily used for military purposes, far outweighing its residential function. Although the main buildings of the castle may have been decorated with luxurious elements to conceal its unsuitability for habitation, it was still not a good place to live for long.

Viscount Otham was a forty-year-old man, thin with sparse hair, and his formal attire was somewhat too tight on his body.

He invited Vitas to sit down.

"Hopefully it's not the worst thing."

"Undead have appeared in the city of Ortham."

"That's great, but let me make sure first, it's not some kind of undead army or something, right?"

The viscount's reaction was calm but not without reason. He was like the kind of ruler who was not good in the conventional sense. He didn't care about small things, but he cared a lot about big things. He also tried to make his people live a good life, but the tedious political affairs took away most of his sympathy.

"I would have preferred to see my appointed manager report to me, but this matter is indeed urgent, so it is reasonable for you to report directly."

As the viscount muttered to himself, a map was brought to him. It was an extremely detailed map, showing every street, every alley, and every key point that could be used for defense within the city.

The marks on the map haven't dried yet, and recently constructed or altered buildings are also marked on it.

"There's been so much going on lately."

As the viscount spoke, he pointed to an area on the map.

"Necromantic wizards are forbidden in the duchy. I hope you can bring his body with you, so that it will be much easier when I report to you."

"But Viya's monster has already given us quite a headache."

"You don't need to worry. Lord Drak will handle Viya's monster personally. After all, it was his disciple who caused this."

The Viscount had more information than Vitas and his group.

"Sigh, life is such a headache, one problem after another."

As he muttered to himself, he pointed out an area on the map to Vitas.

"Go investigate the wizard black market. I'll give you the opportunity and the authority. Those unruly guys should be gathering in that kind of place."

"that……"

The viscount spoke to himself, looking like a ghost at that moment.

"While you're at it, clean up those wizards in the black market. They've gone a bit too far lately. Eagle Knights, you have a lot of potential. I hope your legend can start here."

The viscount's voice was steady and unchanging. He was immersed in his own world, drawing a line for the future in his mind. However, once he reached a direction that his power and authority could not control, it was a pathetic self-performance.

Vitas's brow remained furrowed. His purpose in coming here was to request the Viscount's help and obtain more support, but now the Viscount was telling him not to pay any more attention to the monster Via and to focus on capturing the necromancer.

"I apologize, Viscount. You haven't been getting enough rest lately, and your thoughts are a bit muddled."

Vitas shook his head.

"I hope he doesn't make us just as chaotic."

"You guys deal with the necromancer first. Leave Viya's monster for now. That necromancer is a bigger threat. This is the funding for the experiment."

Vitas took a money bag, opened it and glanced at it briefly, and a hint of joy finally appeared on his face.

"Good, at least now I know what to do."

Helena has already communicated with the other responsible persons, she remarked.

"So many things have been happening lately, one after another, and they all seem to have come out of nowhere."

"That's just how the world is, Helena, utterly absurd. Fortunately, I'm used to it, and you'd better get used to it soon too."

"Shall we investigate the wizard together next?"

"No, I can investigate the wizard by myself. You guys continue capturing Via's monsters."

"But didn't the lord say..."

"That guy is definitely not in his right mind. Besides, you guys aren't good at dealing with wizards."
