Chapter 46 Clinging to Nelly's Thigh

After reviewing the class characteristics of this level 2 orc wanderer, Lorne had a preliminary impression of wanderers.

Simply put, it's just like the Wanderer from D&D: its direct combat ability is negligible, but its support capabilities are top-notch.

Interestingly, wanderers in this world can also use [Charm] as a secondary attribute.

He had been curious about the difference between [Stalker] and [Wanderer] before, and now he roughly understands.

The Wanderer's secondary attributes are [Intelligence] or [Charm]. Their combat strength is relatively weak, but their skills are very strong.

The Stalker's secondary attribute is [Perception], which can boost combat power under certain conditions, but their skills are relatively weak.

Of course, this is only the information at this stage, since each profession has 10 sub-professions.

Perhaps there are subclasses with explosive combat power among the Wanderers, and subclasses with explosive skills among the Stealers.

"Give me the ring." Lorne extended his rough, orcish hand to Nelly.

Nelly placed the invisibility ring in Lorne's palm, and the ring quickly sized to fit the orc's finger.

As Lorne put on the ring, he said to Nelly, "If I die... I mean, if this body dies, remember to get the ring back for me."

"Yes." Nelly nodded seriously.

"Let's set off then." After saying that, Lorne gave a casual salute to Kovina and Seina, then turned and walked towards the north gate of the fortress.

Nelly placed a Shadow Guard Mark on Lorne's orc body, then used Shadow Step to slip into Lorne's shadow.

As they neared the north gate of the fortress, Lorne stepped into the shadows of the building and said to Nelly, "I'm going to deactivate my invisibility."

Nelly immediately deactivated Shadow Step, remained motionless in the shadows for 6 seconds, activated Dark Stealth, and entered stealth mode.

Although both of them are now invisible, Nelly can sense Lorne through the Shadow Guard Mark.

Lorne can directly "see" Nelly through "psychic perception".

So they crossed the open area outside the fortress without being discovered by the orc scouts.

After entering the forest, Lorne found a safe and secluded spot to deactivate his invisibility, and Nelly immediately slipped into his shadow.

On the way forward, Lorne encountered several orc scouts, but they did not arouse suspicion, and he entered the camp of the First Orcish Warband without any trouble.

Instead of rushing to the siege weapon manufacturing area, he first took a stroll around the camp to get a clear picture of the number of people and firepower of the First Battle Group.

In terms of troop strength, there are about three thousand orcs, with professionals making up about 10%, a ratio that is consistent with the situation of most Abyssal orc tribes.

Through Zagu's memories, Lorne now has a fairly good understanding of the orcs living in the Abyss World.

The average lifespan of the Abyssal Beastmen is similar to that of most humans on the surface, but their reproduction rate is three times that of humans.

Their babies are born in just 6 months, and twins are very common.

The birth canals of the Abyssal Beastmen are larger than those of humans, and their newborns are smaller than humans, so the rate of dystocia is less than 1%.

Orcs are naturally strong, and with enough nutrition, they can develop a muscular physique even without much exercise.

This is one of the key reasons why the Abyss Beastmen have such a high probability of producing professionals.

Another important reason is that the Abyss world has a harsh environment, scarce food, and a high mortality rate, so only strong enough orcs can survive.

In other words, the Abyssal Beastmen were raised up by eliminating weak individuals through death.

In contrast, elves are created through a strong social support system and a long lifespan, without abandoning or giving up on any of them.

If we only count elves under the age of 50, then the proportion of professional elves is actually similar to that of humans.

In short, in the upcoming battle, the orcs have a huge advantage over the elves in both the number of professionals and the total number of troops.

As for firepower, Lorne observed that most of the orc artisans were making javelins, with very few bows and arrows.

This is because the bow-making process is very complex, requiring not only good wood, glue, paint, bowstring and other materials, but also a lot of time for air drying and conditioning.

If there is a mechanic, the materials can be easily obtained, and magic can be used to shorten the production time.

But mechanics are rare to begin with, and even rarer than phoenix feathers for orcs.

So, the good news is that there is only one Orc Mechanist.

The bad news is that the orcs also know that the Mechanist is extremely valuable, so they have sent a large number of guards to protect him, and the security is extremely tight.

Lorne was chased away by the guards simply because he got a little too close while strolling around.

He walked around the manufacturing area and found that the guard levels were generally around level 5.

Faced with the current predicament, Lorne's first thought was to go back and kill the Frost Ogre and the Yeti, and then use the Contract Servant to secretly transform nine guards to let himself in.

But after careful consideration, I gave up on that option.

Frost Ogre and Yeti are both excellent combat units, especially able to make up for the lack of front-line tanks among elves.

If the fortress gates are breached, these behemoths are all super soldiers capable of taking on ten opponents at once.

It seems we'll have to find another way.

Lorne sat on a tree stump, staring blankly at a siege engine under construction in the distance.

This is a thinking technique. If you really have no ideas, you can space out or wander off to adjust the active areas of your brain. You might just have a flash of inspiration and come up with a new idea.

"Neri, can you sneak in from here, kill the Mechanist, and then teleport back?"

Unable to come up with a brilliant plan, Lorne half-jokingly and half-seriously asked Nelly for her opinion, while simultaneously sending her a portrait of the orc mechanic via telepathy.

Nelly, who was invisible, peeked out from the shadows and carefully observed the guarding of the construction area, her brows gradually furrowing.

Lorne thought to himself: It's definitely not going to work. After all, besides the sentries every five steps and the guards every three steps, each engineer also has two bodyguards. Even if Nelly is the Chosen One, it's unlikely she can accomplish this.

However, just when he thought Nelly was about to say no, she nodded: "Okay."

Lorne paused slightly, then adjusted his tone and said seriously, "Is this really okay? Don't try to be a hero."

"Yes, it really works." Nelly affirmed again, her attitude simple and earnest, not feeling at all that Lorne was looking down on her.

"What do you need me to do?" Lorne promptly clung to the big boss's coattails.

"Stay in the shadows, and don't go beyond the Shadow Guard's teleportation range," Nelly immediately stated her request.

Lorne recalled the Shadow Guard's professional characteristics; Nelly's maximum teleportation distance should be (Shadow Guard level + Perception adjustment value) × 10 meters. However, he only knew that Nelly was a level 4 Shadow Guard and didn't know her perception attribute, so he asked, "Would 400 meters be okay?"

"Okay, just don't exceed 450 meters."

450 meters... That means Nelly has 20 points in perception. As expected of a chosen one, this level of perception would be more than enough for her to be a priest.

"Okay, where do you plan to start your infiltration?" Lorne asked.

"That tent," Nelly pointed telepathically.

It was a very ordinary single tent, which could be found anywhere in the camp, but this tent was in a good location. The 450-meter Shadow Guard teleportation distance was just enough to cover the entire siege weapon manufacturing area.

Lorne walked over and found an orc sleeping inside.
