Chapter 22 Orc Memories

When Lorne returned to the command center of Northwood Fortress, it was already 2 a.m.

In the command room, Kovina and Seina were discussing the allocation of logistical supplies when Lorne returned, and the two elves immediately stopped talking.

"Comrade Lorne, how is the situation?" Kovina asked.

"All done." Lorne smiled and nodded, then used his mental network to package the entire process of going to the dock to prepare the beasts into a memory image and sent it to the two elves.

After processing the information, Kovina's eyes widened in surprise: "You can transform into an orc?"

"To be precise, I turned an orc corpse into a puppet, which I can control like a druid can shapeshift," Lorne said, casting [Substitute Shapeshift] and transforming into a level 12 orc warrior.

Upon seeing the orc warrior, Kovina and Seina instinctively reached for their weapons at their waists.

"It's me, Lorne," Lorne said in Elvish, but his voice was Orcish, and due to slight differences in pronunciation caused by physiological differences, it was not quite standard.

Kovina and Seina realized their lapse in composure, smiled awkwardly, and relaxed.

Lorne pointed to his head and continued to explain, "This transformation state can only use the puppet's abilities from its previous life, but its advantage is that it can perfectly obtain all of its memories from its previous life."

"Intelligence!" Kovina blurted out excitedly, her eyes shining.

"Yes, intelligence." Lorne smiled and nodded, then walked to the sand table, picked up a long staff, and said:

"This orc army is mainly composed of orc tribes from the upper abyss, but the leading tribe comes from the lower abyss. Their chieftain is named 'Gorgon,' and he is a formidable figure. They are currently encamped here."

As Lorne spoke, he pointed to a spot on the sand table with his long stick.

"Xia Ye Village." Sai Na raised a hand to cover her mouth.

Lorne nodded: "The elves of Luoye Village were originally going to be escorted here, but we escaped."

"Then, have the elves of Xia Ye Village already...?" Seina hesitated, unable to bring herself to say the terrible outcome.

Lorne shook his head: "They're all still alive. This orc chieftain worships both 'Mog'shaka' and 'Gorgax'."

Morgoshaka the Deathbringer, the progenitor god of the orcs.

Gorgax the Destroyer, God of Slaughter, Lord of Tyranny, Demon God of the Abyss.

Upon hearing this, both Kovina and Saina widened their eyes.

"They want to use the pure souls of the elves to summon demons from the abyss," Seina exclaimed.

"Yes." Lorne nodded, his expression serious. "If they succeed in summoning them, it will snowball in this war, and the consequences will be unimaginable."

Upon hearing this, both Kovina and Seina looked grave.

"How many demons can they summon now?" Kovina asked.

"They plan to sacrifice 99 elves at once to open a rift in the abyss and summon an army of demons."

At this point, Lorne paused, then smiled and said:

"The good news is that our previous efforts have not been in vain; the orcs have only captured 83 elves so far."

"As long as the remaining elves can complete their relocation before the orc army arrives at the fortress, the orcs will not be able to open the Abyssal Rift."

"It's impossible, at least until the fortress is breached."

At this point, Lorne thought to himself: Thank goodness he chose to go back and rescue the 16 captured elves of Loyal Leaf Village. Otherwise, the orcs would have already gathered 99 elves and opened the Abyss Rift.

So this is how the gods interfere with the fate of mortals... They don't directly tell you the consequences of not saving these 16 elves, but only let you make your own choice and give you a little bit of help.

"Comrade Lorne, you possess this orc's memories and understand the current situation better than any elf. Please tell us, what should we do next?" Kovina looked at Lorne with hopeful eyes.

Lorne did not give an immediate answer.

He looked at the sand table in front of him, carefully searching through the orc's memories for every detail that might be beneficial to the next move.

After a moment, he began to speak in a calm voice:

"If the orcs discover that the forest elves have all retreated to the fortress, and realize that they cannot conquer the fortress in a short time."

"In order to avoid our reinforcements, they will definitely sacrifice the captured elves as soon as possible, summon a group of demons, and take over the fortress."

"Once they capture the fortress, they can capture a large number of elves, open the abyssal rift, and summon even more demons."

"So we must rescue our captured compatriots before that happens."

Kovina nodded immediately after hearing this: "Okay, I'll go gather the men now. Pass on the order—"

"No need," Lorne interrupted Kovina, raising his hand. "I have a plan with a higher success rate."

The messenger had arrived at the door and, upon seeing an orc standing before his commander, immediately drew his longsword.

Kovina immediately raised her hand and said, "It's alright, this is Comrade Lorne disguised as a spy. You can step back now. I'll call you if I need anything."

Upon hearing this, the messenger sheathed his sword, stood at attention, saluted, and returned to his post.

Lorne pointed to his orcish body:

"This orc is named Zagu, a tribal chief, but he lost to Gorgon in a duel."

"So he is now a servant of Gorgon, and the Bloodaxe clan he leads has also recognized Gorgon as Warchief in accordance with orc tradition."

"Many tribes are in the same situation as this orc army."

"According to orc tradition, people like Zaku have one more chance to turn things around, and that is 'Mogo-Kshaka'."

"Mogo-Kshaka means 'fight to the death' in Orcish."

"When one orc initiates 'Mogo-Kshaka' against another orc, the latter must accept it or be banished."

"Once 'Mogo-Kshaka' begins, it must be fought until one side is dead, and the winner will take everything from the loser."

"So," Kovina said, "if you can kill Gorgon, you can become the chieftain of this orc army?"

Upon hearing this, Seina's eyes lit up, clearly fantasizing that Lorne could infiltrate and become the orc chieftain.

But Lorne shook his head: "Unfortunately, the possibility is very small."

"Gorgon is very strong. He has reached the master level in all three Barbarian paths. Zaku can't even last 5 rounds against him."

"And even if I were to become the Great Chieftain, it would be impossible to end this war immediately, let alone release the captured elves."

"So the real plan is that when I publicly challenge Gorgon and attract the attention of most of the orcs, Nelly will take the opportunity to rescue the elves."

"Just to be on the safe side, we should have Saloville and Mondridge meet up with the rescued elves."

Kovina and Seina calmed down again.

"Monterridge is training the militia, and Salowell hasn't returned yet," said Kovina.

Lorne nodded. "I need to rest for four hours. Please pass on the plan to Monteridge, and tell him if Salovey returns as well."

At this moment, Nelly tilted her head and said, "Why not let Nelly assassinate Gorgon directly?"

Lorne smiled and ruffled Nelly's hair, patiently explaining, "Our primary goal is to rescue them. If the assassination fails, it will be much more difficult to save them later. Once we've rescued them, you'll have plenty of opportunities to assassinate them."

"Okay." Nelly nodded seriously.

Lorne then said to Kovina, "Have the logistics department prepare water, food, warm clothing, and campfire fuel."

Kovina paused for a moment, then understood what Lorne meant: "You're going to take the rescued elf over the snow mountain?"

"If I could, I wouldn't want to either," Lorne explained.

"But the orcs urgently need to capture enough elves to summon demons, so the first orc warband's mission is not to attack the fortress, but to spread a wide net to prevent the elves from escaping into the fortress."

Kovina nodded knowingly and said to Saina, "Go ahead, and make sure you're well prepared."

"Do you need weapons and equipment?" Saina asked.

Lorne nodded: "It would be best to have some, but I'm worried that too much equipment would be a burden."

He expects that after the upgrade, the storage space will reach a capacity of 10 cubic meters, or 1000 cubic meters.

With such a large space, you can bring as much stuff as you want, but the problem is that weapons and equipment need to be worn and held at all times to be effective.

Saina handed her magic bag to Lorne: "Try it and see if you reject it."

Lorne tried it and found that it could be stored in the storage space without being mutually exclusive like other magical storage items.

Saina said, "I will put each elf's supplies and equipment in a separate magic bag, which should lighten the burden a bit."

"Then there's no problem." Lorne smiled and nodded, returning the magic bag to Seina.

"Go and rest. I promise to be ready before you set off," Saina solemnly promised, then quickly left the command room.

"Let's go, let's rest, and then we'll set off to rescue them."

"Yes!" Nelly nodded vigorously.
