Chapter 19 Substitute Body
"How's the elves' relocation going?" Kovina asked Saloville.
"All the elven villages are being relocated. I expect the last group to arrive at the fortress the day after tomorrow evening." Saloville smiled and nodded, looking at Lorne with eyes full of admiration, and said:
"This is all thanks to His Majesty Lorne's strategy. Most of the villages were already prepared for relocation and combat before I and Monteridge arrived. We just had to inform them that the plans had changed and the tactics had changed from forest guerrilla warfare to joint defense of the fortress."
Upon hearing this, both Kovina and Seina looked at Lorne with eyes full of respect.
Lorne quickly corrected him, "Please don't call me 'Your Majesty,' just call me 'Comrade.'"
You absolutely must not have this kind of empty fame. Otherwise, no matter how great you feel now, you'll deserve to be put on the hot seat in the future.
"Lorne... Comrade?" Salowell tried calling out, and his Chinese pronunciation was surprisingly quite standard.
"Yes, Comrade Saloville." Lorne nodded.
"Am I gay too?" Salowell asked, looking puzzled.
"Of course, all those who fight wholeheartedly for Senesion are comrades, without distinction of rank or status," Lorne explained.
As if she had received a new toy, Seina immediately addressed the other elves: "Comrade Kovina, Comrade Saloville, Comrade Lorne, Comrade Little Nelly."
Nelly pouted in dissatisfaction: "Why is it only Nelly who has to add 'little' to her name?"
"Of course, because little Nelly is the cutest!" Seina hugged Nelly tightly, nuzzling her cheek affectionately.
"It tickles." Nelly squinted as she was being rubbed, but she didn't pull away.
"Great, you're all here." Monteridge walked into the command room, panting, looking exhausted and his voice hoarse.
"What happened?" Kovina immediately realized the subtext of those words.
Mondrich pointed to the sand table and said, "My animal friends told me that the orc army has started to move, and judging from the direction, it's heading straight for the fortress."
Everyone's expression turned serious, even Nelly's face hardened; she was now Comrade Nelly.
"How's the speed?" Kovina asked.
Mondrich replied, "Soon, probably the day after tomorrow morning."
Upon hearing this, Kovina, Seina, and Salowell all wore solemn expressions.
Salowell just said that the last batch of elves wouldn't arrive at the fortress until the evening of the day after tomorrow.
In other words, many elves will be kept out of the fortress by the orc army.
Lorne immediately said, "Comrade Saloville, please fly again and teach the 'Seneson War Spirit' to all the elves who might be intercepted by the orcs. Tell them to abandon unnecessary supplies and make sure they reach the fortress before dawn the day after tomorrow."
Everyone's eyes lit up. The Senesion War Spirit was very easy to learn; once mastered, it would immediately increase marching speed. As long as they traveled light, they should be able to reach the fortress before the orcs.
"Okay, I'll be off right now," Salowell replied, then flew out of the window.
Everyone breathed a sigh of relief as they watched Saloville depart.
Seina smiled and said, "Fortunately, the goddess bestowed upon us the 'Seneson War Spirit,' otherwise I really can't imagine what would have happened."
"Now is not the time to relax," Lorne said seriously. "We need to send another team to harass the orc vanguard, lest the orcs also speed up their march."
"Comrade Lorne, your steadiness is admirable. I'll go and gather the men right away," Kovina said, and was about to take action.
Lorne raised his hand to stop Kovina: "No, you are the supreme commander, you must stay here to stabilize morale."
"I can hand over command to you," said Kovina. "Your military talent is evident to all, and the elves are convinced of it."
Lorne thought to himself: What military talent do I have? I've only learned a little bit of what our ancestors knew.
He declined, saying, "I don't know this fortress, nor do I know any of the soldiers inside. I'm only good at strategizing, not commanding."
"Then I'll lead a team to disrupt the orc vanguard," Mondridge said.
Lorne shook his head again: "No, you need to rest. This team needs to be fast and agile, not many people. Nelly and I are enough."
"Is it just the two of you?" Saina asked, her eyes filled with worry.
"Two Chosen Ones, isn't that enough?" Lorne smiled confidently. "Besides, our mission is just to disrupt the march, not to annihilate the enemy."
"I trust your judgment, Comrade Lorne," Kovina said first.
Lorne nodded, looked at Mondridge, and asked, "Can you predict the orc vanguard's route?"
Monteridge drew an arrow from the quiver hanging at his waist and pointed at the sand table, saying, "They started from Xiaye Village. Unless they get lost, this is the only way they can go."
Lorne carefully noted down the route and said, "Let's set off now."
"Take this with you." After saluting, Saina took out three mana potions from her dimensional pouch.
Under normal circumstances, a spellcaster can drink a maximum of three mana potions after each long break. Drinking more than that will risk poisoning and will also greatly reduce the recovery effect.
"Thank you, they'll definitely come in very handy." Lorne smiled as he accepted them and put them into his storage space.
Kovina snapped to attention and saluted: "May the goddess bless the elves!"
Lorne stood at attention and returned the salute: "May the goddess bless the elves!"
Nelly and Seina also saluted.
After the ceremony, Nelly slipped into Lorne's shadow.
No sooner had Lorne disappeared through the door than Mondridge couldn't help but say:
"Can anyone tell me what I missed while I was gone? All the guards greeted me like that as I ran here. And what are 'Seneson's War Spirit' and 'Comrade'?"
Upon hearing this, Kovina and Seina smiled simultaneously.
……
As Lorne traveled, he opened the system panel to select new spells and upgrade new subclasses.
Without hesitation, he chose "Lightness of Movement" from the available spells he obtained during the last upgrade.
~~~
【Light and Agile】(Bard, Druid, Ranger, Warlock, Mage, Mechanic, Shaman)
One ring, change, lasting 8 hours, standard spellcasting.
Makes yourself or a reachable creature's body lighter and more agile, [Movement Speed] +1 meter, [Jump Distance] +50%.
Ascending Ring Casting:
For each level up, [Movement Speed] increases by an additional 1 meter, and [Jump Distance] increases by an additional 50%.
~~~
For the upgrade, Lorne did not hesitate to choose the psychic's "Life Refinement".
As always, a warm current flowed through my body, and extraordinary knowledge permeated my soul.
~~~
Your 'Psionicist' skill level has been raised to 5, and your sub-class 'Life Refiner' skill level has been raised to 1.
+1 to base attribute points, +5 to maximum health, +10 to maximum stamina, and +20 to maximum mana.
You can choose to learn one spell below the first level.
……
[Substitute Body] (Psionicist, Life Refinement Level 1)
『Physical Body』:
Consume one surge of psionic energy to create a physical body for yourself.
The substitute body has all the same attributes as your true self, but can use all the abilities of your true self. However, its maximum health is only 10% of the true self's (subclass level).
When your health reaches 0 or your soul is not linked for 5 turns, you will automatically disintegrate into primal magic.
"Alien Body":
Consume one surge of psionic energy to refine a fresh and largely intact corpse into an alien body.
The substitute body can perfectly preserve the abilities and memories of the deceased during their lifetime.
The base attributes will be increased by a total of (Life Refinement Level + Spiritual Energy Adjustment Value) points, with the ratio customized. The ratio can be modified when refining again.
Intelligence, perception, and charm saving throws use the psionic modifiers of the real body; all other saves use the modifiers of the alien body itself.
When using a different body, you can only use the "Life Refinement" ability that you have already learned in your true form.
When a different body is not connected to a soul, it will not disintegrate automatically, but it will be injured and decay naturally like a normal corpse.
'Body Storage':
You can store the substitute body in your unique psionic subspace, ensuring it neither disintegrates nor decays.
You can store at most (Life Level + Psychic Adjustment) substitute bodies in the psychic subspace.
When the true form is stored in the psionic subspace, it will not occupy storage space.
'Body Switching':
When you have an extra available substitute body, you can consume one standard casting action + 10 mana to instantly replace the currently used substitute body and your true body.
The replaced substitute body or true form will be directly stored in the psionic subspace.
"The Cicada Sheds Its Shell":
When the substitute body dies or you voluntarily abandon the body, you can move in soul form for (Life Refinement Level + Spiritual Energy Adjustment Value) rounds, and during this time release another substitute body or true body to continue acting.
In spirit form, you can fly. Flight speed = (movement speed + life refinement level + psionic modifier) meters.
"Substitute Armed Forces":
Creating a [body shell] will automatically copy the clothes and weapons of the real body.
The replica has the armor level, armor penetration level, and enhancement level of the original, but does not have magical effects.
However, the magical effects gained by the true body through wearing equipment will be projected onto the substitute body without loss, and both the original body and the substitute body can benefit from it.
When your physical body and true form are equipped with magical items at the same time, the effects of the same type cannot be stacked; only the highest value will be applied.
~~~
Lorne dared to take on such a dangerous mission because he could upgrade his sub-class "Life Refining".
After the upgrade was completed, he immediately added the newly acquired 1 point of basic attribute to [Perception].
