Arya put down her bowl, wiped her mouth, and went to open the door.
A soldier in leather armor stood outside the door, with a short sword hanging at his waist.
He held a piece of parchment in his hand, stamped with a red seal.
"Arya?" The soldier glanced down at the name on the paper.
"Yes, it's me." Arya's voice suddenly softened.
"You haven't paid your taxes for this month yet." The soldier handed over the parchment: "It's due by the end of the month at the latest; we can't delay any longer."
Arya took the paper, her fingers pinching the corner, and nodded: "I'm sorry, I understand, I'll hand it in on time."
The soldier glanced at her, then swept his gaze around the room. He saw Lin Yu sitting at the table, paused for a moment, but said nothing, and turned to leave.
Arya closed the door, leaned against it for a while, and crumpled the parchment in her hand.
She turned around, met Lin Yu's probing gaze, and forced a smile: "I'm sorry to have made you laugh."
"No." Lin Yu put down his bowl and shook his head.
"I'm living here with you now, eating your food, and using your things. These things should be shared. Don't worry about taxes; we'll figure it out together."
Arya stood there, stunned.
She looked into Lin Yu's eyes, which were calm and gentle.
Her heart trembled at Lin Yu's smile.
A warm current spread from my chest, stuck in my throat, making me feel sour and bloated.
She hadn't heard such words in a long time, so long that she had almost forgotten what it felt like to be cared for.
Arya opened her mouth as if to say thank you, but it felt like her throat was stuffed with cotton, and she couldn't squeeze out a single word.
Finally, he simply lowered his eyes, raised his hand to smooth the strands of hair that had fallen across his forehead, and touched his burning forehead with his fingertips.
"There's still some milk heating up in the pot, I'll go get it for you." Arya turned and walked towards the kitchen, her voice much softer than usual, and a little nasal.
Lin Yu watched her retreating figure without saying a word.
Arya brought out the milk from the kitchen, placed the cup in front of Lin Yu, and accidentally touched the back of his hand when she withdrew her finger, then quickly pulled it away.
"Drink it, it's still warm."
Lin Yu picked up the cup and took a sip. The milk was thick and had a slightly sweet taste.
He put down his cup and said, "By the way, I need to go out for a bit later."
"Where to?" Arya looked up. "I was just about to say I don't have much to do today and could show you the way. I know this area well, so just let me know if you need any help."
"No need, I can do it myself." Lin Yu stood up and gathered the dishes.
"While I'm at it, I'll see if there's any work I can do, since I'll be living here from now on." With that, Lin Yu carried the bowls and plates to the kitchen.
Arya remained seated at the table.
"I've always lived here." She repeated the sentence, her heart skipping a beat.
"Mr. Lin Yu always likes to say things that are easy to misunderstand, yet he says them with such a serious expression, as if he's just mentioning it casually."
But she just couldn't calm down after hearing that.
The sound of water came from the kitchen as Lin Yu washed the dishes. Arya stood up, walked to the window, and opened it. The cool morning breeze blew in, dispelling the heat from her face.
After a while, Lin Yu came out of the kitchen, wiping the water off his hands: "I'm leaving."
"Hmm... Be careful on the road." Arya didn't look at him; her gaze was fixed on the swaying herbs outside the window.
Lin Yu pushed open the door, and sunlight flooded in, stretching his shadow long.
The door closed, and the footsteps faded into the distance.
Lin Yu walked to the left along the path in front of Arya's house.
He had walked this road hundreds of times in the game, and even though it was his first time in real life, he still knew its exact location.
Holm Village is not large. Arya's house is in the east, and Bell's farm is in the west. The two places are exactly opposite each other.
They were all on the edge of the village, beyond which lay the forest.
After walking for about ten minutes, a yard enclosed by a wooden fence came into view.
Inside were several low houses, and in the corner of the yard was a pile of dry hay, with a few chickens pecking at the ground.
The air smelled of a mixture of cow dung and hay; it wasn't pleasant, but it wasn't overpowering either.
Lin Yu stood outside the fence and saw a tall figure in the distance.
He's over 2 meters tall, the kind of tall that you can spot immediately in a crowd.
At that moment, Bell was standing in the yard, carrying a bucket of water and pouring it into a stone trough.
She was wearing dark overalls with the cuffs rolled up to her knees, revealing a section of her fair calves.
When she bends over, her breasts droop heavily, stretching her clothes to their limit.
The buttons were embedded in the fabric, and the surrounding folds looked like they were about to burst open.
She straightened up, and the two mounds bounced back and swayed for a moment.
The hem of the short-sleeved shirt was tucked into the overalls, creating a defined waistline.
Her waist was very thin, creating a drop in width with her hips. The straps of the overalls wrapped around her chest from both sides, pressing two shallow grooves into the bulging fabric.
There was a large pocket in the front of her pants, which bulged slightly against her fleshy thighs.
She turned to get another bucket of feed, the fabric of her overalls clinging to her buttocks, stretching out in a full curve.
The tail extends from the tailbone and sweeps back and forth above the rump, a fluffy tuft.
The trouser legs were rolled up above the knees, revealing thighs with dazzlingly white skin.
She wore wooden clogs, her toes sticking out, her toenails a pale pink, and a little mud on them.
Bell poured the feed into the stone trough, straightened up, and wiped the sweat from his forehead.
When she raises her arm, the cuff of her short sleeve is pulled into her armpit, revealing a patch of smooth skin in her armpit. Her tail sways gently with the movement, unconsciously, which looks rather cute.
Seemingly sensing Lin Yu's gaze, Bell suddenly turned his head.
Its facial features are more defined than a human's, and its pupils are amber-colored, shimmering with a faint golden light in the sunlight.
She has a high, straight nose and naturally pink lips that look moist and dewy even without any makeup.
She looked at Lin Yu without any wariness on her face, and instead smiled, revealing a row of neat white teeth.
"Little brother, what can I do for you?"
His voice was lower than Arya's, with a lazy, magnetic quality, as if he had just woken up and wasn't fully awake, or as if he was born speaking like that.
Hearing this, Lin Yu raised an eyebrow.
Little brother.
Well, with Bale's physique, he certainly has the right to call him that.
After all, his relationship with Bellby was like that of a little boy and an eight-foot-tall lady.
Lin Yu remained calm and composed, then pushed open the gate and went inside.
"Hello, you must be Miss Bell? I'm new here, living in Arya's house on the east side of the village. I heard from the villagers that you used to be an adventurer, and I'd like to ask you for a favor," Lin Yu said, getting straight to the point.
Bell has a rather straightforward personality, and Lin Yu felt there was no need to beat around the bush.
Bell blinked upon hearing Lin Yu's words.
The amber eyes looked Lin Yu up and down, from his face to his feet, and then back to his face.
She had to admit that the man in front of her was very handsome, and she liked the way he spoke, which made her willing to listen to him continue.
"Arya's house?" Bell put down the wooden bucket he was holding and patted the bits of feed off his hands. "How strange, she actually brought a man home."
"The situation is special," Lin Yu said without further explanation.
"Alright." Bell didn't press further, putting her hands in the front pockets of her overalls and leaning against the railing as she looked at him. "Speak, what is it? If you have something that can entice me, I can help."
