Chapter 69 I Don't Want to Get Married

Jiang Shanbao glanced at it too, his eyelids twitched, and he took out a few sheets of paper from the brown paper bag, placed them on the coffee table, and pushed them towards her.

"Take a look at this. This was sent by the village secretary. If there are no problems, just sign it. When it's time to relocate the graves, go back there."

Jiang Weixi picked up the few sheets of paper, which were covered with dense black writing.

She read it line by line, very carefully.

I don't know if it's just my imagination, but my vision seems to blur for a moment, and I feel a little uncomfortable.

"Okay." She saw no problem; the government had arranged a place for her to be resettled.

Jiang Weixi picked up the pen and signed her name on it.

Of course, she was careful and deliberately crumpled the contract paper to make sure that this was the place where she would sign.

Jiang Shanbao stared at his daughter for a few seconds, a complex look flashing in his eyes.

It turns out that his daughter has grown into a beautiful young woman and has reached... the age to get married.

Jiang Weixi folded the contract neatly, put it away, and prepared to leave: "If there's nothing else, I'll be going now."

Shen Guifang came out of the kitchen, carrying two cups of tea, and placed them on the coffee table.

"Don't rush off, your dad still has something to say."

Shen Guifang sat down next to Jiang Shanbao.

Jiang Weixi had already stood up: "Is there anything else?"

Shen Guifang forced an awkward smile: "Sit down first, don't rush, let your father finish speaking."

So Jiang Weixi sat down again, still wearing her crossbody bag, without taking it off.

Jiang Shanbao took a cigarette from the pack, lit it, and the smoke instantly filled the living room.

Jiang Weixi coughed and reflexively covered her mouth and nose.

She dislikes the smell of smoke and hates it when others smoke in front of her.

I took a puff of secondhand smoke, and my entire nasal cavity was filled with the smell of smoke.

Jiang Weixi frowned, eager to leave the room.

Seeing that Jiang Weixi looked unwell, Shen Guifang nudged Jiang Shanbao's arm and, unusually, spoke up for her: "Alright, stop smoking now. Look how badly she's choking."

Shen Guifang snatched the cigarette butt from his mouth, stubbed it out in the ashtray a few times.

Jiang Weixi glanced at Shen Guifang in surprise.

The smoke in the living room had thinned considerably, and the remaining smoke gradually drifted out of the window.

Jiang Shanbao cleared his throat and asked, "How old are you this year?"

Jiang Weixi raised an eyebrow, but before she could speak, Shen Guifang interjected, "I remember you should be about twenty years old."

"Hmm." Jiang Weixi responded lightly, her eyes darting around as she pondered the purpose of their question, a thought vaguely emerging in her mind.

Sure enough, the next second Jiang Shanbao said, "Twenty years old, not young anymore, it's time to get married."

Ah!

Jiang Weixi sneered and clenched her fingers slightly: "I'm still studying, I'm not in a hurry to get married."

Shen Guifang immediately scoffed, "What's the use of a girl reading so many books? It's more important to find a good man to marry while you're young. Being young makes it easier to have children. If you have two sons, you won't have to worry about food and drink for the rest of your life."

Jiang Weixi did not immediately deny these words.

She acknowledged that marriage is indeed, to some extent, an efficient restructuring of social resources.

Marrying well can sometimes indeed bring a better material life and less difficulty in surviving.

Reality is beyond human control, and social mobility between social classes is inherently difficult.

However, this does not mean that reading is useless.

Because most girls are not able to marry men who are much higher in social class than themselves.

Ordinary girls can only be matched with ordinary men.

It's difficult for a person to choose a spouse beyond their own worth.

Reading is the simplest way to enhance one's self-worth.

Marriage is an option, but education is the foundation.

She studied hard from a young age in order to leave the mountains and Heishan County.

She made good use of her education as a springboard, and she did indeed succeed, moving from a small, third-tier city to a first-tier city.

She lowered her dignity to stay by Gu Wanyi's side in order to access a better circle of people and use the Gu family as a springboard to reach a new platform.

You can meet many outstanding classmates in college, but those people are not on the same level as the ones Gu Wanyi meets every day.

As for the men with good conditions in the eyes of Shen Guifang and Jiang Shanbao, Jiang Weixi had no expectations.

Jiang Shanbao cut to the chase and said, "There's another reason I asked you to come here today: to meet someone."

Jiang Weixi understood immediately and stared at him: "Who are you seeing?"

Shen Guifang: "Do you know Zhongyou Automobile Group? Today you're meeting the son of the Zhongyou boss, he's rich."

Jiang Weixi said calmly, "I don't want to see him. I'm still in school and have no plans to get married."

Jiang Shanbao: "Getting married won't stop you from going to school, and what's the point of going to school anyway?"

Shen Guifang nodded: "Even if you graduate from university and find a job, and work for several lifetimes, you still won't earn as much as Zhongyou Group in a single quarter. Isn't it better to be a rich wife than a wage earner?"

Jiang Weixi looked at her: "Since the conditions are so good, why don't you introduce Jiang Mei to him?"

If such a good thing were to happen, would it even be her turn?

Shen Guifang rolled her eyes: "Do you think I don't want to? Rich men are selective too; it's not like just any woman will do. He's taken a liking to you."

Jiang Mei is only of average appearance. Although her name contains the character "Mei" (meaning beautiful), she is not a beauty at all.

Otherwise... Shen Guifang wanted to send her own daughter in to enjoy a life of luxury, but the other party didn't like Jiang Mei and specifically asked for Jiang Weixi.

Doorbell rang.

Shen Guifang immediately got up and went to open the door.

A man entered; he was short and thin, with unsteady steps and heavy dark circles under his eyes, clearly indicating that he had been drained by alcohol and women.

Shen Guifang's attitude was enthusiastic, completely different from how she had treated Jiang Weixi earlier.

Sun Yongshu's eyes lit up when he saw the beautiful young woman sitting on the sofa.

She's even prettier and more innocent-looking than in the photos!

Jiang Weixi glanced at him, frowned, and looked displeased.

His lustful desires were aroused by her pretty face.

Sun Yongshu pushed Shen Guifang aside, rubbed his hands together, and walked to Jiang Weixi's side.

Shen Guifang gave Jiang Shanbao a meaningful look.

Jiang Shanbao stood up: "President Sun, this is my daughter. You two have a good chat. We have some business to attend to, so we'll be leaving now."

Shen Guifang and Jiang Shanbao hurriedly went out and locked the door from the outside.

Only Jiang Weixi and Sun Yongshu remained in the entire house.

Jiang Weixi's eyes turned cold as she touched the stone in her bag.
