Bright Sword: Starting from Obtaining the Equipment Slot
Chapter 3 Planting a Seed of Nightmare [Please Add to Favorites]
The entire exchange lasted less than five minutes.
The open space was deathly silent.
The prisoners of war all stared wide-eyed, and several Japanese special agents instinctively reached for their guns at their waists.
Anyone who witnessed this scene, especially someone who has read a few books, would likely have the same thought: "This is impossible!"
Yamamoto Ichiki stared at the two corpses on the ground, slowly raised his head, stared at Wei Dayong for a few seconds, and for the first time, the mocking expression on his face disappeared.
"Impressive skills," Yamamoto Ichiki slowly clapped his hands. "I didn't expect there to be such a master hidden in the POW camp. What's your name?"
"I will never change my name or surname, Wei Dayong!"
"Wei Dayong." Yamamoto repeated, took two steps forward, and stopped about two meters away from Wei Dayong.
"As agreed, you've won and can leave."
A low commotion arose among the prisoners of war.
Wei Dayong, however, did not move.
He lowered his eyes slightly, his mind racing.
Now, if one person walks alone, let's not even talk about whether they can get away, but what about the hundreds of people behind them?
Those who stayed behind mostly died; they were either used as live targets for practice or tortured to death.
He suddenly raised his head, pointed at the prisoners behind him, and said loudly, "I'm taking them with me."
Yamamoto Ichiki paused, as if he hadn't heard clearly, and asked in confusion, "What did you say?"
"I said," Wei Dayong said, emphasizing each word, "I'm taking everyone with me."
It was quiet all around.
Yamamoto Ichiki was stunned at first, then burst into laughter as if he had heard the biggest joke in the world, laughing so hard that he bent over.
The surrounding Japanese soldiers also joined in the laughter.
"Who do you think you are?" Yamamoto finished laughing, but his eyes turned cold. "I'm already being extremely lenient by letting you go. Everyone? Why should I?"
"Because you're... way too close to me right now!"
Wei Dayong spoke calmly, but before he could finish, he had already moved.
The 10% increase in physical attributes after activating the equipment slot was fully revealed at this moment.
With explosive leg power, he pounced like a cheetah, so fast that he left only a blurry shadow in the eyes of onlookers.
Yamamoto Ichiki was a veteran special forces soldier, and his reaction was extremely fast. He immediately drew his samurai sword from his waist with his right hand.
But he was fast, and Wei Dayong was even faster!
He had just gripped the hilt of the knife when Wei Dayong was already in front of him!
With his left hand, he gripped Yamamoto's wrist as he drew his sword like an iron clamp, pressing down hard. Yamamoto cried out in pain, and the sword was pushed back in just half an inch after it was drawn from its sheath.
At the same time, Wei Dayong twisted his right hand to the side of Yamamoto's neck, and then slammed his knee into Yamamoto's lower back. Taking advantage of the moment when Yamamoto lost his balance while leaning forward, Wei Dayong twisted his body, slid, and circled around Yamamoto's back.
The entire sequence of movements was fluid and graceful, a set of grappling and counter-attack techniques he had practiced in the modern military. Now, combined with enhanced strength and speed, he used only one move to lock Yamamoto Ichiki firmly in front of him.
All of this happened in less than three seconds.
By the time the surrounding Japanese soldiers realized what was happening, Yamamoto had already become a hostage in Wei Dayong's hands.
Wei Dayong drew the samurai sword from behind Yamamoto's waist with his right hand, and with a "clang," the blade was drawn and placed directly against Yamamoto's neck.
The cold blade pressed into his flesh, and Yamamoto could even feel the stinging pain as beads of blood seeped out.
"Don't move!" Wei Dayong shouted in a low voice.
The Japanese soldiers froze in place, raising their guns but daring not to fire.
No one expected that this guy would be so unethical as to dare to attack Captain Yamamoto in front of everyone.
What's even more terrifying is that he actually did it.
Yamamoto Ichiki's face turned pale and red, filled with shame and anger, yet he dared not struggle.
He could feel how sharp the knife was against his neck, and he could also feel the strength of the hands behind him—a strength that no ordinary person should possess!
"Now, can we talk?" Wei Dayong's voice rang in his ear.
"What do you want?"
"Release them. All prisoners of war."
"Impossible!" Yamamoto answered through gritted teeth. "Releasing all the prisoners of war would be impossible for me to explain to my superiors!"
"Then don't confess. You can report to your superiors that there was a riot in the POW camp and most of the prisoners were killed in the chaos. The authorities are far away here; what you say is entirely up to you, isn't it?"
Yamamoto fell silent.
He certainly understood this principle; the lives of prisoners of war were worthless in their eyes, and a mere "riot disposal" report would suffice to get by.
He simply couldn't swallow his pride and accept defeat.
"...I can only release half at most," Yamamoto finally said. "That's my bottom line; I can't do more than that. Also, some people must remain in the camp as hostages, otherwise what if you change your mind halfway through?"
Wei Dayong glanced at the crowd behind him out of the corner of his eye.
There were over four hundred people locked up in the camp. If half of them were released, what would happen to the remaining half? He knew very well what would become of those who stayed behind.
But if we don't agree now, we might not even be able to take these two hundred people with us.
This is a chaotic world. He is not a saint; he only seeks peace of mind.
"Okay," Wei Dayong finally nodded, "but you should see us off first."
"You mean you're taking me hostage?"
"Yes, once I've led my men far away and to a safe place, I'll release you." Wei Dayong stared at him. "But you must promise that you won't kill the people left behind. If you do anything after we leave—"
His voice was low and chilling:
"If I can arrest you once, I can arrest you a second time. Then, no one will be able to protect you."
A chill ran down Yamamoto Ichiki's spine; he found himself having no doubt about the truth of those words.
"...I agree."
"Words are no proof; write a warrant ordering all sentries and patrols to allow passage without obstruction."
Yamamoto had no choice but to signal his adjutant to bring paper and pen. Under Wei Dayong's watchful eye, he wrote a warrant, signed it, and affixed his seal.
Wei Dayong took the order, glanced at it, and only after confirming that it was correct did he slightly loosen his grip on the sword, but still kept Yamamoto firmly in front of him.
He shouted loudly towards the group of prisoners of war:
"The Japanese promised to let half of us go! Now, those who want to leave, step forward, I'll pick them!"
The crowd stirred.
Some hesitated, some retreated, and some saw hope ignite in their eyes.
Team leader Wang Xiao was the first to step forward and stand next to Wei Dayong:
"I'll go with you! Staying here is just waiting to die, might as well take a gamble!"
With one person taking the lead, many others followed suit.
Wei Dayong quickly selected from the crowd.
The elderly, the weak, the sick, and the disabled were not selected.
He knew in his heart that the road ahead would be difficult, and carrying people who couldn't walk would only slow down the whole team.
Soon, more than two hundred people gathered together.
Wei Dayong had them line up in a queue, while he led Yamamoto Ichiki at the back of the line, walking step by step toward the camp gate.
Yamamoto gave a hand signal to the sentry on the watchtower, and the camp gate slowly opened.
Outside the door was wilderness, and in the distance were the silhouettes of rolling mountains.
The troops moved slowly, emerging from the camp gate. All the Japanese soldiers just watched, none daring to fire a shot.
After leaving the camp for more than two miles, some people started to jog, panting.
Wei Dayong shouted, "Stop running! Keep your formation and conserve your energy!"
Wang Xiao leaned closer and asked in a low voice, "Brother Wei, that move you made just now... was incredibly fast. What kind of kung fu do you practice?"
"Just a quick capture, taking him off guard," Wei Dayong said simply, without elaborating further.
The group walked another three or four miles, and a fork in the road came into view.
Wei Dayong glanced at the sky and called Wang Xiao over:
"You lead everyone forward, along the fork in the road into the mountains. I'll lead him along another path."
"You still have him with you?"
"Keeping him alive is like adding an extra layer of insurance," Wei Dayong said. "I'll find an opportunity to release him after he's gone a little further."
That's what he said, but in reality, Wei Dayong had already "seen" that the Japanese special forces team had caught up with them from a kilometer away!
Although Yamamoto Ichiki was blindfolded, he was secretly leaving marks.
We're all ancient foxes, why are you trying to play these ghost stories with me?
Wei Dayong had always known this, but he didn't care because he wanted to teach the Japanese a lesson!
Before you've mastered the skills, don't you dare show off just because your master's wife taught you a few tricks!
He planned to plant a seed of nightmare in the hearts of the Japanese special forces before they could even train.
If you play passively and farm cautiously before getting your god-tier gear, and then continue playing passively even after getting it, then what the hell did you get that god-tier gear for?
