Under One Person: The End of Technique, Company Building
Chapter 30: Killing the Chicken to Warn the Monkey – Who is the Chicken, and Who is the Monkey?
A black Buick minibus traveled smoothly on the expressway leading from the airport to the city.
The sky over Tianjin remained overcast, the view outside the window shrouded in a hazy filter, with tall buildings and low factories flashing by, and occasionally the outline of a bridge spanning the Haihe River in the distance could be seen.
The carriage was quiet, with only the low hum of the engine and the slight sound of air blowing from the air conditioning vents.
Zhuge Qi sat in the first row of single seats near the car door, his posture relaxed yet dignified. He leaned back in his seat, his hands folded on his knees, his eyes looking straight ahead, and a faint smile on his lips.
Ren Fei sat in the double seat diagonally behind him, her khaki trench coat draped over the back of the chair, revealing a simple black turtleneck sweater underneath.
Her posture was equally upright, with her legs slightly to the side and her hands casually placed on her knees. Her gaze occasionally swept across the window and sometimes fell on Zhuge Qi's back, as if she were deep in thought.
In the middle of the carriage, the two groups of people naturally formed two small groups.
Ma Hong and Liu Yanyan sat in the back. Liu Yanyan was obviously nervous, her hands tightly gripping the fabric on her knees, her eyes constantly scanning the carriage, like a kitten that had just been adopted into an unfamiliar environment.
Ma Hong, on the other hand, was quite nonchalant. He leaned back in his chair, crossed his legs, and had an unlit cigarette dangling from his mouth. He would occasionally turn his head to glance at the "visitors from Central China" sitting across the aisle.
The trainees from the Central China section occupied window seats in the middle of the carriage.
The car turned a corner, tilting slightly.
Ren Fei finally broke the silence.
"Section Chief Zhuge," her voice was cool yet carried a perfectly appropriate politeness, "I want to confirm the situation with the Lü family in person again. After all, these things can't be explained over the phone, and I'm afraid something might go wrong."
She knew that if she handled this matter well, it would be a great achievement, but since the person she was dealing with was the Ten Elders, she had to be extremely careful.
If any hidden dangers are left behind, they will not be so easy to deal with.
Zhuge Qi turned his head slightly, met her gaze, and a smile appeared on his face that said, "I knew you would ask."
"Director Ren is a cautious person, but don't worry, since I've come to you with this matter, I won't make things difficult for you."
"Lu Ci will definitely cooperate in this matter, and the company doesn't have much to do. In fact, it should do as little as possible and leave the initiative to the Lu family."
"After all, he's one of the Ten Elders; we should at least save him some face."
His tone was certain, as if he were talking about something that was already a done deal.
Ren Fei's eyelashes twitched slightly, but her expression remained unchanged; she simply hummed in agreement.
She felt much more at ease after hearing what the other party said.
Zhuge Qi didn't continue speaking immediately. Instead, he turned his gaze to the middle of the carriage, fixing it on the bearded man. "Speaking of which, isn't this the temporary worker from Central China?"
Ren Fei followed his gaze, a slight smile curving her lips.
"I almost forgot to introduce him," her tone was slightly more relaxed than before, "He's a clarinetist, a temporary worker from Central China. We brought him along this time to see if he can be of any help."
The words were spoken softly, but they contained a great deal of information.
Zhuge Qi understood the underlying meaning: Ren Fei came to Tianjin, but it seemed she wasn't in a hurry to leave.
He glanced at the black tube without making a sound.
He then raised his head, his gaze briefly meeting Zhuge Qi's before quickly lowering it again. In a hoarse voice, he said, "Hello, Section Chief Zhuge."
His tone was flat, without any extra emotion.
Zhuge Qi nodded and didn't ask any further questions.
He knew that the identity of "temporary worker" was very special in the All-in-One system.
These unofficial staff often have a secret past or an identity that cannot be made public. They are powerful but not bound by the regular staffing system, and are the secret cards in the hands of the regional leaders.
The fact that Ren Fei could lead such a person all over the country shows that she has exceptional control over the Central China branch.
He turned around and briefly introduced his team.
"Ma Hong," he gestured towards the back row, "the leader of the action team, a tough guy with a strong external martial arts style, skilled in combat, and capable of both fighting and enduring hardship."
Upon hearing his introduction, Ma Hong grinned and nodded to his colleagues from the Central China branch opposite him: "Hello everyone, please take care of me in the future."
Ren Fei's gaze lingered on Ma Hong for a moment, a hint of approval flashing in her eyes.
She could tell that this person had a lot of Qi and followed a powerful path. Although he might not have many refined techniques, solid strength would always be highly valued in the world of supernatural beings.
Zhuge Qi then pointed to the little girl in the corner with her head down.
"Liu Yanyan is a descendant of the Liu family in Xiangxi. She is currently an unpaid assistant manager in the company, and I personally supervise her."
"A member of the Liu family?" Ren Fei looked at Liu Yanyan with a more scrutinizing gaze and a hint of amusement.
Liu Yanyan felt very uncomfortable under the other person's gaze, and could only nod to indicate that she had greeted him. She felt inexplicably pressured.
"Hello, Director Ren."
The sound was so faint it was like a mosquito's hum.
Ren Fei nodded slightly to her without saying anything more.
She'd seen plenty of young people like this when they first entered the industry. In a year or two, they'd either become seasoned veterans or pack their bags and leave. Paying too much attention to them only made her nervous.
Hei Guan, however, lingered on Liu Yan Yan for a couple of seconds after hearing the words "Liu family" before lowering his eyes again.
After the two sides introduced themselves to each other and everyone got to know each other a little, Zhuge Qi spoke again.
"Director Ren is already aware of the situation with the Lü family. Although I said the company doesn't have much to do, the Lü family's Minghun Technique is a big problem. This matter is a major issue anywhere, so we still need to be cautious."
Ren Fei certainly knew about the Minghun Technique. The Central China branch bordered the Lü family's territory, and they had dealt with each other quite often.
The Lü family's "Minghun Technique" is publicly claimed to be an ancestral innate ability, but anyone with even a little knowledge in the circle knows that its origin is questionable and it only appeared in the last few decades.
However, these things are too sensitive, and most of the older generation are reluctant to talk about what happened back then, simply because it involves too much and is not a simple matter of a few people or sects.
How many years have passed since the Jia Shen Rebellion?
Anyone who touches the Eight Extraordinary Skills will die.
Therefore, she fully agreed with Zhuge Qi's advice to do less and observe more, but she also understood that she couldn't really do nothing.
"I'd like to convey President Zhao's attitude: 'The company should promote better integration between the new generation of extraordinary individuals and ordinary people. We can't let the rules of these old families always hold back the path of the new era.'"
"As for the specific extent of implementation, General Manager Zhao's idea is to adapt to local conditions and let the frontline comrades handle it themselves."
Ren Fei's gaze shifted, and she looked at Zhuge Qi with some surprise, naturally understanding the implied meaning in his words.
The company really needs to implement the Eight Extraordinary Skills.
Are we making an example of someone to scare others?
But if the Lü family is a chicken, then why kill such a big chicken? What monkey is being warned?
