Curse Return: Demon Void Girl Doesn't Want to Be a Weakling
Chapter 3 The First Pot of Gold
After being asked to leave the convenience store, Mashiro wandered the streets of Shibuya for another half hour.
My stomach is still growling.
Cong Yu hung quietly at her waist, but the silvery-white sword couldn't be eaten, and she couldn't get used to hunger until it actually caused harm.
Damn it, how can adaptation be such an inconvenient thing?!
"I need to figure out a way to make some money..." Mashiro rubbed her stomach, wandering aimlessly through the streets of Shibuya late at night. "I can't starve to death before I even see Sukuna, can I?"
That's so frustrating.
She turned into a relatively quiet alley, wanting to find a place to sit down and rest for a while, but as soon as she reached the middle of the alley, she heard strange noises.
"hehe……"
It sounded like the gasping for breath when someone's throat is being choked.
Mashiro paused, her right hand gripping the hilt of her sword.
They are cursed spirits, and there's more than one.
She peeked out cautiously, looking into the depths of the alley.
A middle-aged man in a suit was cornered against a wall, his briefcase on the ground, his mouth agape in terror, and in front of him were three cursed spirits of different shapes.
Mashiro squinted her eyes.
Two monkeys, which looked like they had been skinned, with long, thin limbs, were climbing up and down the wall very quickly.
The other one resembled an inflated pufferfish, its round body covered in dark purple spikes, and it was growling at the man.
"I don't recognize any of them..." Mashiro muttered to herself. "This kind of nobody has never appeared in the manga."
Although she didn't recognize it, she could sense the general strength of the cursed spirit, which was between level four and level three.
Three cursed spirits surrounded him, and the pufferfish in front suddenly swelled up, shooting out several sharp spikes from its body!
The man was so frightened that he fell to the ground, the spikes embedded in the wall behind him, dripping some kind of viscous purple liquid from their tips.
"Poisonous." This judgment flashed through Mashiro's mind; the disgusting color made it obvious at a glance.
"Three of them. I don't know if we can stop them. If we let one get away, that man will die."
Mashiro sighed; the situation had worsened again.
The pufferfish swelled up again, and the two monkeys on the wall crouched down, ready to pounce at any moment.
"There's no time to observe. If we don't make a move, he'll definitely die." Mashiro drew Murasame and jumped out of the shadows.
"Feed," she called out.
The three cursed spirits turned their heads at the same time, sensing the fluctuations of cursed power emanating from her, and became even more agitated.
The man looked up and saw it was a little silver-haired girl. He paused for a moment, then said, "Little girl, run!"
"Thank you for the reminder," Mashiro stopped five meters in front of the man, her gaze sweeping over the three cursed spirits before finally looking at the man, "but that's the mindset of the weak."
The cursed spirit, unable to understand human speech, launched an attack. Mashiro suddenly drew Murasame, deflecting the incoming spikes.
The sound of ping-pong balls echoed through the alley.
The man looked at Mashiro, who was blocking the cursed spirit in front of him, and stammered, "What...does 'weak' mean?"
Sigh, as expected, ordinary people still can't grasp the jokes; the most insightful quotes come from the most talented people.
But this was a chance to make money! She wouldn't let it slip by!
"I'll take care of them, and you'll pay me. That's the gist of it." Mashiro turned her head and said, trying to keep her tone calm, "Fifty thousand yen, cash, no bargaining."
The man was stunned.
"Do you agree or not?" Mashiro asked again, her eyes fixed on the pufferfish.
"Y-I agree! I'll give you 100,000! No, 200,000!" the man stammered, "As long as you can—"
"Deal, fifty thousand is enough." After Mashiro finished speaking, her eyes narrowed, and she made her move.
Cong Yu was held in his right hand and leaned against him. Mashiro mobilized his magic power and accelerated towards the pufferfish.
The pufferfish seemed frightened and expanded again, this time shooting out more than a dozen sharp spines at the same time, covering all her evasive angles.
"Here it comes!" Mashiro didn't slow down, charging straight at the spikes.
Just as she was about to be hit, Mashiro quickly swung Murasame, knocking away most of the spikes, but she still got hit by one each on her left shoulder, right leg, and side abdomen.
"Pfft!"
The spike pierced the flesh, but not deeply, about two centimeters deep.
But the next second, a sharp pain came, not a stinging pain, but poison.
The purple venom flowed into the body through the spikes, and the area that was hit felt like it was being soaked in sulfuric acid, causing a burning sensation.
"Hiss—" Mashiro gasped, having made a contribution to global warming.
It hurts so much! Much more than she imagined!
Click, click, the Falun begins to turn, the adaptation begins.
She felt the burning sensation slowly subside, and gritted her teeth. "It takes time... to get used to this poison, it takes time."
She had already rushed to the pufferfish, and with a backhand slash, the blade cut through the pufferfish with a stiff, sluggish touch, followed by a muffled sound of flesh and bone separating.
Pufferfish - purification.
Without a moment's mourning for the pufferfish's death, the two monkeys rushed to the battlefield.
They swooped down from the wall, moving so fast that ordinary people could only see afterimages.
"Watch out!" the man shouted, warning Mashiro.
Before she could even steady herself in her charge, her blade suddenly shifted, slashing upwards at an angle and severing the first claw that lunged at her. However, she was then caught in the back by the second claw.
"Sizzle—"
The already tattered sportswear was completely ruined, and there were three bloody welts on my back that burned with pain.
Moreover, she felt that there was also poison on the claws, but it was different from the poison of the spikes; it was a stinging sensation.
How sinister! Three brilliant minds have appeared in this tiny alley.
"Different toxins require readjustment." Mashiro took a deep breath, understanding the current adaptation mechanism, and then slashed back.
The rain grazed the monkey's arm, not severing it, but leaving a deep, bone-revealing wound. The cursed spirit's special attack was effective; even a mere scratch caused significant damage.
The monkey roared and retreated, trying to distance itself from Mashiro again.
"Too slow!"
Mashiro wouldn't give it that chance. She lunged forward, using the narrow wall of the alley as her foothold. As she flipped over, the blade flashed down from above, and she used the momentum of her fall to increase the force of her strike as she slashed down at the second one.
"puff--"
There was no resistance.
The rain cleaved its body as smoothly as cutting tofu, cleansing it.
The remaining cursed spirits were terrified and tried to escape, dragging their severed arms, but it was too late. They were caught up by Mashiro and cut in half at the waist.
"Fleeing the battlefield is not the act of a hero," Mashiro scoffed.
Two plumes of black smoke rose.
Cong Yu absorbed two more portions of curse power. Mashiro sensed it and found that the curse power within her body was much stronger than before.
"Probably... at the level of a level three sorcerer?" she guessed.
She sheathed Cong Yu and turned to look at the man.
The man was stunned. He slumped in the corner, not even bothering to pick up his glasses which had fallen to the ground, staring at Mashiro in shock.
"Is it...resolved?" he asked in a trembling voice.
"It's settled." Mashiro walked up to him, squatted down, and held out her hand. "Fifty thousand yen, no credit."
"Ah, ah! Here, I'll give it to you!"
The man frantically pulled out his wallet, took out all the cash, about 70,000 to 80,000 yen, and stuffed it all into Mashiro's hand.
"I only need 50,000 yen." Mashiro counted out five 10,000 yen bills, returned the rest, and said, "It's 50,000 yen, so it's 50,000 yen."
"But...but you saved my life..."
"In business, integrity is fundamental." Mashiro stood up, put the cash in her pocket, and asked, "Can you walk by yourself?"
"Yes, I think I can." The man tried several times before finally standing up unsteadily. "Thank you. What was that just now?"
"Cursed spirits are monsters nurtured by human negative emotions. Next time you see one, turn and run. Don't waste your life."
Mashiro sensed that there were no more cursed spirits around her, then turned and left.
Looking at Makoto's petite back, the man opened his mouth, but finally whispered something.
"Thanks."
