Chapter 151 General Rhodes
Army Headquarters.
The deep roar of the military jeep's engine broke the rare tranquility at the military district gate in the early morning.
Susan and her assistant drove into the military district, which was almost entirely under the control of the military.
"Here!"
At the call of the receptionist, Susan, dressed in a smart uniform and with her hair in a high ponytail, pushed open the door of the jeep and got out.
"General Rhodes is in the reception room."
The receptionist gave Susan a military salute, even though the CIA and the military district were two completely unrelated systems.
"Thanks."
Susan was a little embarrassed and did not return the salute, even though she had learned some of it from Colonel Mallory when she was young.
The two followed the soldier in officer's uniform, a young major.
The major didn't say anything more, but just looked Susan over before leading the two of them toward the reception room.
----------
Reception room.
This is a large living room with floor-to-ceiling windows.
The morning light streamed through the window, and a middle-aged man dressed in a general's uniform sat in a chair, quietly sipping his coffee in the sunlight.
"Commander, this is Director Susan and her assistant."
The major knocked lightly on the door, and after receiving a response from Rhodes, he pushed the door open and led Susan and her assistant inside.
"You are Susan Rayner, Colonel Mallory's successor?"
Rod put down his coffee cup, raised his head slightly, and although he was almost fifty years old, he didn't look that old.
"Yes, it is an honor to meet you, General Rhodes."
Susan looked at the imposing general and nodded.
"Good, Rory, take Miss Susan's assistant to the side and rest for a bit."
He spoke to the major who was standing next to Susan.
"Yes."
Major Rory gestured for his assistant to follow, and Susan nodded, indicating that the assistant should go with him.
After the major and his assistant left, only Rod and Susan remained in the reception room.
"Don't be so formal, have a seat."
Looking at Susan in front of him, Rod's originally serious face finally broke into a faint smile.
At least for this moment, setting aside his general's uniform, he seemed like a kind elder.
"How is Colonel Mallory doing now?"
He asked Susan.
"Commander, the director has been resting since she retired..."
"We failed to help her back then."
Rhodes sighed.
"When the colonel was still in the army, he took good care of me."
I owe her a favor.
"Originally, I should have sent someone to help her during the lamplighter incident."
"But unfortunately, I also encountered some problems at that time."
"Colonel Mallory was angry with me because of this and didn't contact me for a long time."
Susan's pupils contracted slightly, and her mouth opened, clearly unaware that the Army Commander-in-Chief and her former director had such a relationship.
"Didn't expect that?"
Rod blinked and said with a touch of nostalgia.
"I was with Colonel Mallory back then."
"Our troops suffered a severe blow later because of the Soldier Boy incident."
"Colonel Mallory even temporarily withdrew from the military, leaving all her resources in the army to me."
A hint of guilt flashed in Rhodes' eyes.
"Well, when people get old, they always miss the days when they were young."
Rod stopped thinking about continuing their reminiscing and looked at Susan in front of him before speaking.
"So, Director Susan of the CIA, what brings you here to discuss with me?"
Susan blinked.
Maybe there's a chance?
She truly hadn't expected the bureau chief to leave her such a generous gift.
No wonder the director, who has already retired from the military and is no longer the director of the CIA, can still lead a large number of soldiers to do things.
"Ahem, General Rhodes, I've actually come here for someone."
Susan cleared her throat and spoke to Rod.
"For one person?"
Rhodes was somewhat surprised.
He originally thought Susan wanted to ask him for some resources or support.
It's rare to find someone alone...
Could it be that one of his young men has stolen the heart of this young female bureau chief?
"This may be presumptuous, General Rhodes, but are those members of the Flash Liberation Army still with you?"
Rhodes' expression changed.
He put away his benevolent smile and looked at Susan seriously.
"You want to flash the People's Liberation Army soldiers? Are you crazy?"
"Volt's V compound has already been exposed, so there's no use trying to flash the PLA's superhumans now."
Rhodes knew what Susan and Mallory had been investigating.
It's nothing more than Wörther's V compound.
In fact, if Mallory had climbed a little higher in the military and reached the rank of general, he would have had access to information about superhuman beings from World War II.
Unfortunately, she chose to withdraw at that time.
Rhodes only discovered Wot's historical information after he became a general.
These things had to be kept strictly confidential, and he couldn't tell Mallory directly.
Their relationship grew increasingly distant.
It wasn't until Colonel Mallory's two grandsons were killed by the Lamplighters that Rod took a break from the infighting within the military to visit the poor colonel.
"No, General Rhodes, the main reason is that I have a superhuman under my command. She seems to be a superhuman trained by the Flash Liberation Army, but she escaped."
"Then, she saw information about the PLA criminals on TV and recognized one of them as her brother."
"So I was thinking, could I...?"
Rhodes remained silent.
He understood what Susan meant.
She wanted to use her superhuman brother to win over her subordinates.
Rod tapped his knuckles lightly on the expensive wooden table. He was silent for a moment before speaking.
"Tell me first, who is her brother?"
"Kenji."
Susan had already obtained Kimiko's brother's name and photo from Butcher.
"Kenji..."
Rod frowned slightly, pressed a button, and a few breaths later, Rory pushed open the door and walked in.
"commander."
"Go check the information on that terrorist named Kenji, and hurry up, send it over."
"Yes."
Rory gave a military salute, then quickly left the reception room to retrieve Kenji's information.
Would you like some coffee?
Rod asked Susan.
"It is my honor to drink the same coffee that the general drinks."
"Haha, there's no need to be so reserved. Back when I was on the battlefield with Colonel Mallory, it was still her..."
