Chapter 76 is in chaos.
They hadn't walked far when they suddenly stopped.
Because not far ahead
Several corpses lay on the ground... four cat demons, lying haphazardly in the open space. Each one was killed with a single blow, the wounds precisely concentrated on the head and neck, clean and swift.
"These..." Han Lei squatted down and examined the corpse of a cat demon. "They haven't been dead for long; the blood hasn't dried yet."
The group exchanged glances, then simultaneously looked in the direction Su Mu had left.
Although unbelievable, it clearly couldn't be anyone else.
"Did he kill him?" one of the team members asked uncertainly.
Han Lei didn't say anything, but squatted down and carefully examined the wounds.
A knife wound? Not quite. The wounds are thin and deep, like they were pierced by something sharp. And each one is a vital spot, at a tricky angle, with precise force.
"One person killed four cat demons." Han Lei stood up, his expression somewhat grave. "There were even level two ones among them."
There was a few seconds of silence.
"If that's the case... then that guy's strength is unfathomable."
"No wonder they don't join us." One of them said with a hint of self-deprecation, "They can take on four by themselves, while we five struggle to take on two. I wouldn't join either."
Han Lei didn't speak, but glanced in the direction Su Mu had disappeared before looking away: "Let's go. Let's finish the mission first."
Shen Qingwan stood there, watching the horizon gradually darken in the distance, her heart filled with mixed feelings.
Capable. Good-looking. And with a calm and composed personality. In a pre-apocalyptic world, such a person would have been an unattainable dream.
She looked down at herself, then at the direction Su Mu had disappeared in, and suddenly felt a little deflated. She was somewhat confident in her looks, but compared to someone as handsome as Su Mu, she seemed just so-so.
What is she thinking about? What time is it? It's the third day of the apocalypse, everyone is fighting for survival, and she's thinking about these things.
Shen Qingwan shook her head vigorously, trying to shake off these chaotic thoughts.
But... who says there's no chance? She bit her lip and quickened her pace to catch up with the group.
......
Su Mu was naturally unaware of the reaction of the team behind him when they saw the cat demon corpses.
He was hurrying towards the retreat point, his pace neither fast nor slow.
He stopped under a sturdy tree, climbed up in a few quick movements, sat on a solid branch, and opened the chat channel.
The atmosphere in the channel was completely different from during the day.
Messages were scrolling by quickly, but the atmosphere was no longer one of active teamwork and strategy building like in the morning. Instead, there was a sense of oppression and anxiety, as if something was pressing on everyone's chest, making it hard to breathe.
"Help! We've been attacked at the foot of Xishan Mountain! There's a group of five or six foreigners, killing anyone they see!"
"We encountered them too! Three men, all burly, and armed with knives. Two from our team escaped, but Old Wang got slashed..."
"Who are they? Why are they trying to kill us?"
"What else could it be? Looting supplies, of course. Killing people for gear, what's the difference between that and a game?"
"Didn't we agree to team up? It's only been three days and they're already killing people?"
"Who's on your side? They're on a completely different wavelength, not on the same channel as us. They have no qualms about killing people."
Su Mu read through the list one by one, his brows furrowing deeper and deeper.
The most serious incident occurred on the southern slope of Xishan Mountain, where a team of six was completely wiped out and all their supplies were looted.
Someone posted the coordinates in the channel, saying there were at least seven or eight corpses there, all hacked to death with sharp weapons. Someone else posted a screenshot of several figures in the distance... It wasn't very clear, but they were identified as white people, tall, holding knives and clubs.
Suddenly, the channel was filled with a tense atmosphere.
"Everyone be careful! A foreign group is operating near Xishan, specifically targeting our people!"
"It is recommended not to act alone; form a team of at least five people before landing."
"Is anyone going to organize this? We have people here too, we can't let them be so arrogant!"
"Organize? Who's going to organize it? Zhou Zhenguo was injured today and is still recovering. The Talented Ones Guild hasn't made a move either."
"The Talented Individuals Guild? Aren't Zhao Hongyuan and his team recruiting? Should we go ask them for help?"
"What are you begging for? They only accept gifted individuals; ordinary people can't even get through the door."
Su Mu turned off the channel, leaned against the tree trunk, and remained silent for a few seconds.
He had already guessed that this would be the outcome.
Two cables, two different groups, no common identity, no common interests, not even speaking the same language... murder and robbery were almost inevitable.
The question now is how long this chaos will last and to what extent it will spread.
He shook his head, deciding to stop thinking about it.
Thinking about it is useless. All he can do now is become stronger as quickly as possible. Strong enough that no one dares to mess with him, strong enough that he can kill anything he encounters with a single shot.
After jumping down from the tree, Su Mu did not rush to the evacuation point.
Anyway, it's only about a kilometer left, I should be able to get there before dark. Instead of rushing back, I might as well use this time to kill some more monsters.
Although he lacks experience, he has a lot of practice. And he definitely needs more real combat experience to familiarize himself with the Gunslinger's fighting rhythm.
Su Mu gripped his spear tightly and walked deeper into the forest.
......
For the next hour or so, he hardly stopped.
Level 1 Cat Demon, one shot. Level 2 Cat Demon, one shot.
Every shot is aimed at a vital spot; every shot is a guaranteed kill.
With practice, he even began experimenting with different techniques... one shot a slash, another a thrust, the angle more tricky, the force lighter. The gun became more and more like a part of his body; he could use it however he wanted, without any hesitation.
Occasionally, when he encountered a small group of three or more, he would no longer dodge. He would start with a thrust to knock one into the air, then follow up with a combo to take down the second, a sweeping attack to knock away the third, and then turn around to finish him off. A complete combo took only three or four seconds.
I encountered two groups of people during that time.
They were all traveling along this cableway, in small groups of two or three. Seeing Su Mu wandering alone in the woods, they cast wary glances at him. Su Mu ignored them and walked away at a distance. The others didn't approach either; both sides tacitly maintained their distance and went their separate ways.
