They didn't look back at the energy blast, because they knew that they might be dead by the time it hit them.

But they didn't stop, because stopping meant waiting to die, while running at least gave them a chance.

The teleportation array lit up.

A silvery-white light rose from the ground, like a blooming lotus flower, dazzlingly bright in the darkness.

The range of the light was vast, large enough to cover the entire camp and large enough to contain everyone.

The light was moving so fast that it only took the blink of an eye for it to rise from the ground into the air.

But the Chimera's energy is even faster.

Su Mu was only a dozen meters away from the teleportation array.

He could see the light of the teleportation array dancing on his face, he could see Lin Xiaohe's hair turn silver-white in the light, and he could see the fur of the silver-spotted leopard cub in Lin Yuwei's arms shimmering in the light.

But his legs felt like they were filled with lead, and he had to use all his strength to take each step.

It wasn't that he lacked physical strength; it was that the Chimera's pressure was too strong, so strong that even the air turned into a solid, so strong that every breath felt like it would burst his lungs.

Time seemed to freeze at that moment.

He could see the energy surging slowly through the air, the flames at its edge flickering slowly, and the torn pieces of wood slowly spinning wherever the energy passed.

He could hear Bai Liuxi's voice coming from the direction of the teleportation array, each word spoken slowly.

"We must...stop...it...by...one...attack...before...fully...teleportation...can be...activated..."

Her voice seemed to stretch out for an eternity in the stillness of time, like a lament slowed down countless times.

Su Mu's gaze fell on Bai Liuxi.

Bai Liuxi stood at the edge of the teleportation array, her body still trembling, her face still pale, and her breath still weak.

But her eyes were bright, and her gaze fell on Su Mu.

She was waiting, waiting for Su Mu to make a decision.

Su Mu shifted his gaze from Bai Liuxi to the approaching energy blast.

His mind was racing; he was calculating... could his block withstand the force of the energy?

A perfect parry only triggers when he is unaware of the opponent's attack. Now that he knows this energy is coming, his parry can offset most of the damage, but he can't withstand the leaked damage.

His golden bloodline could enhance his attributes, but his attributes were as thin as paper in the face of this energy.

His spear could pierce many things, but it couldn't pierce this burst of energy.

He couldn't figure it out.

It wasn't that his calculation ability was insufficient; it was that the level of this energy was too high, so high that his calculations became meaningless.

He glanced at Lin Xiaohe beside him, then at Lin Yuwei, and then at Chen Jun.

They were still running, still moving closer to the teleportation array, their faces filled with fear, but their feet didn't stop.

A sense of helplessness welled up in Su Mu's heart.

It wasn't that he didn't want to save them, it was that he couldn't.

Zhao Derong stopped in his tracks.

He stood between the teleportation array and the chimera, on the inevitable path of that energy surge.

Blood was still seeping from his chest, his arms were still trembling, and his face was as pale as a dead man.

But he stood very straight.

He turned around to face the slowly approaching energy, the three enormous heads in the sky, and the monster whose level he couldn't even discern.

There was no fear on his face, only a calm, relieved feeling, as if he had finally waited for something.

"My rating is C," he said, his voice not loud, but strangely enough, everyone present could hear him.

It wasn't that his voice was loud; it was that everyone stopped breathing, stopped their heartbeats, stopped thinking, all to listen to him speak.

Do you know why?

No one answered.

"It's not because I'm weak." A slight smile played on his lips. "It's because of my ability... I can burn."

Burning blood, burning equipment, burning life force... burning everything.

The more I burn, the stronger I become.

His voice trembled, not from fear, but from excitement.

He pulled a white skill book from his backpack, weighed it in his hand, and then threw it on the ground.

He pulled out another piece of white equipment and threw it on the ground.

He pulled out a green weapon, held it in his hand, and then threw it on the ground.

"White, green, blue... these things are no different from garbage in my hands." He laughed again, a laugh that looked particularly tragic on his dark, rugged face.

"But if I burn them all... if I burn my blood... if I burn my life..."

His body began to burn.

Blood mist seeped from his skin, not from wounds, but from every pore, forming fine, mist-like droplets.

The blood droplet floated in the air, then ignited, turning into a dark red flame that enveloped his entire body.

His aura was surging... Level 5, Level 6, Level 7, Level 8, Level 9, Level 10.

His body was collapsing... his skin was cracking, like a dried-up riverbed; his muscles were atrophying, like withered branches drained of moisture; his bones were making cracking sounds under the strain, like a bamboo stalk being pressed to its limit.

"I was very thin when I was a child." His voice began to become hoarse, but his speaking speed and tone remained unchanged.

"I was often bullied. Once, a group of people cornered me in an alley... I thought I was going to be beaten to death."

He soared into the sky.

It wasn't flying, it was jumping. His legs slammed off the ground, creating a crater, and his body shot out like a cannonball.

The blood mist left a long, dark red trail behind him, like a comet streaking across the night sky.

"Then someone stepped forward." His voice came from the sky, growing farther and farther away, but clearer and clearer.

"He doesn't know me, we're complete strangers."

He took those punches for me, he shielded me from those blows.

He rushed up to the chimera.

The lion lowered its head, its amber eyes fixed on the ignorant little creature.

Zhao Derong looked at those eyes, which were bigger than his body, and grinned like a child.

"Later, those people retaliated against him and caused him trouble." His voice began to choke.

"I was right there, but... I didn't step forward. I was scared."

His tears welled up in his eyes, evaporated in the blood mist, and turned into white water vapor.

"I've regretted it my whole life." He gritted his teeth.

"From that moment on, I vowed that I must become strong. Strong enough that I would no longer be afraid, strong enough to protect the people I want to protect."
