Chapter 269 The outcome will be clear.
She was so fast that the giant had no time to react. In a few steps, she rushed to the giant's shoulder, and the dagger pierced through its eye socket, through its skull, and out from the back of its head.
The giant's body stiffened abruptly, then he fell straight down.
Lin Xiaohe jumped off the giant, slightly bending her knees to absorb the force upon landing, then turned and walked towards the next one. Her fighting style was even more ruthless and decisive than before; every strike went straight for the vital points, without any unnecessary movements, hesitation, or pauses. At level four, a green-class Flame Fist Master, she could already barely handle a level six ordinary giant. Su Mu watched her retreating figure and nodded slightly.
Lin Yuwei also got out of the car.
She didn't draw her gun, but instead walked up to another giant... a level six one, a size larger than the one Lin Xiaohe had dealt with. Su Mu frowned slightly; he had originally wanted Lin Yuwei to deal with the lower-level ones, but she had chosen this level six giant.
Instead of dodging Lin Yuwei's grasp, she met the giant's fist head-on. As the giant's fist slammed down, she sidestepped, the fist grazing her shoulder before striking the ground, sending shards of stone flying.
Her palm pressed against the giant's arm, and a green light seeped from her palm—not healing, but corroding. The skin on the giant's arm began to fester within that green light, and dark green blood gushed from the festering wounds. The giant let out a painful roar, and reached for Lin Yuwei with its other hand.
Lin Yuwei didn't dodge. She moved her hand away from the giant's arm, changed her palm into a fist, and slammed it into the giant's chest. The green aura exploded the moment her fist touched the giant's skin, like a small bomb, blasting a bowl-sized hole in the giant's chest. The giant's body swayed, then crashed to the ground.
Su Mu's eyes narrowed slightly.
Lin Yuwei's fighting style was different from what he had expected. She was a support class, a battlefield medic, and should theoretically have stayed in the back to heal and buff, but she chose to fight in melee, and she did it quite well.
That green light... it wasn't healing, it was offensive. Was that an effect of the egg yolk? Or was she naturally endowed with this ability? Her overall attributes had increased significantly after absorbing the egg yolk and practicing dual cultivation; even without powerful offensive skills, she could deal with a level six giant simply by overwhelming her attributes.
After Lin Yuwei dealt with the giant, she didn't look back at Su Mu and turned to walk towards the other one. But Su Mu saw in the rearview mirror that her ears turned red again.
Chen Jun sat in the driver's seat, his hands gripping the steering wheel, watching the battle outside the window, his Adam's apple bobbing. He didn't speak, but Su Mu could see the envy in his eyes, a longing that seemed to say, "When will I be able to be like them?"
"You'll be able to do it someday," Su Mu said.
Chen Jun paused for a moment, then smiled. "Brother Su, you don't need to comfort me. I know my own limitations. I'll just drive well."
Su Mu didn't say anything more. He knew Chen Jun's personality; it wasn't inferiority, it was pragmatism.
The battle lasted less than twenty minutes.
The giants had been cleared away, leaving behind dozens of corpses and a large patch of dark green blood. The death toll was still being tallied, but Su Mu roughly estimated that at least a hundred survivors had died, and the military had also suffered dozens of casualties. The bodies of the lower-level survivors who had been trampled and stoned to death by the giants lay scattered on the road, some crushed beyond recognition, others still in their death poses... running, reaching out, covering their heads. Their belongings were scattered everywhere: backpacks, weapons, photos, a letter... no one had time to pick them up.
The team regrouped and continued their advance.
Su Mu noticed that the military was deploying some kind of equipment along the way.
The men in engineering uniforms unloaded silver-white metal boxes from the vehicles, dug holes by the roadside, buried them, and then used instruments to test them, only leaving after confirming the indicator light turned green. They buried one every few hundred meters, stretching endlessly.
Su Mu didn't know what it was, but he knew the military wouldn't do something like that without a reason.
Outside the car window, on the distant horizon, a blurry, hazy light slowly rotated, like a giant vortex. It wasn't a cloud, nor fog; it was a fluctuation of energy.
Su Mu's golden bloodline stirred slightly within him; he could sense a powerful presence in that direction. It wasn't a monster, but something more abstract, more fundamental, like a distortion of some kind of rule.
His brow furrowed. That direction must be the "danger behind" the military had mentioned. Superhuman level, or legendary level? He didn't know, but he knew he had to conserve his strength and not waste it on these low-level giants.
The convoy continued on its way. Chen Jun drove steadily, maintaining a constant distance from the armored vehicle ahead. Lin Xiaohe and Lin Yuwei returned to the car. Lin Xiaohe sheathed her dagger, leaned back in her seat, closed her eyes to rest, and breathed steadily.
Lin Yuwei rummaged through her backpack and pulled out a bottle of water. She took a couple of sips, then tightened the cap and put it back. Her hands were still covered in the undried giant's blood, a dark green color that had formed a thin layer between her fingers.
Su Mu rummaged through the glove compartment in the passenger seat and pulled out a pack of wet wipes, handing it to her.
Lin Yuwei glanced at him, took the wet wipes, pulled out one, and began to wipe her hands. Her movements were slow, wiping each finger one by one, as if trying to completely remove the blood from under her fingernails.
After wiping, she folded the used wipes, put them in a plastic bag, leaned back in her seat, and closed her eyes. She didn't say thank you, and Su Mu didn't wait for her to say so either.
Chen Jun glanced at the two people in the back seat in the rearview mirror, then at Su Mu. His lips moved slightly, but he said nothing. The corners of his mouth were slightly upturned, as if he were smiling, or perhaps trying to suppress a laugh. Su Mu didn't see it; his gaze was fixed on the blurry light outside the window, his mind calculating the route ahead.
That theatrical monster, that giant golden bird, that terrifying being that could reduce his cable car's durability to fifty-three percent in a single blow... Compared to that ball of light, who was stronger? He didn't know. But he knew he had to get back alive.
Not far away, in another car, Proxiu leaned back in the back seat, wings folded, his gaze fixed on the taillights of Su Mu's van through the window. He was observing Su Mu. From the moment Su Mu got out of the car until now, he hadn't made a single move, hadn't touched a finger, and had been sitting in the passenger seat watching the whole thing.
His teammates were fighting, but he was resting.
This isn't laziness; it's confidence.
He knew those giants weren't worth his time, and he was conserving his strength.
Proxiu recalled Bai Liuxi's attitude towards Su Mu, the woman's exception that gave him three teammates, and the look in Commander Zhou Weiren's eyes when he looked at Su Mu—a look that said, "I have high hopes for him." He was resentful, but he didn't show it.
He folded his wings slightly, shifted his gaze, and looked at the blurry, gray light outside the window.
That direction is the real battlefield. Then, who is the strongest will naturally be revealed.
