Chapter 221 Could it be them?
He Lin stood still, but her fingers had already been drawn from her bosom, hanging at her sides, the fingertips gleaming slightly. Zhao Gang's shield slid from his back to his left arm, and Zhao Qiang drew his battle axe from his waist.
Su Mu didn't move. He looked at Number Seven, then at Zhang Peng's group, quickly calculating in his mind.
"Relax." Number Seven's voice remained deep and gentle, as if soothing a group of frightened cats. "Inside here, apart from these guns in front of me... all other means of attack are ineffective. Talents, skills, class abilities, special effects attached to equipment—none of them work. Try it yourselves if you don't believe me."
Su Mu's brow twitched slightly.
He glanced at his system panel; the icon for his profession had turned gray, and the skills "Thrust," "Combo," and "Sweep" in the skill bar were all displayed as unavailable.
He tried to summon a spear from thin air, but there was no response. He then tried the M500; the gun was still at his waist, but the system displayed a message: "[Firearms are disabled in this area]". The glasses Bai Liuxi had given him were also completely grayish-white on the lenses, displaying no data whatsoever.
He looked at Lin Yuwei. Lin Yuwei was also looking at her own panel, and her expression wasn't good.
"My talent is gone too." Her voice was very low, almost a whisper. "Everything. My profession, skills, equipment effects—all gone."
Su Mu's brows furrowed even more. But just as he was about to close the panel, he noticed a line of text. At the very top of the talent bar, the sub-talents with "one of three options at level one"... the flame icon was still lit. Not gray, but a normal, bright color, like a newly lit flame.
Any attack will target the monster's weak point.
An additional attack is triggered upon a successful hit. When facing unpredictable, double-edged sword events, you always seem to get the best of both worlds. Afterimage Combo. Catapult Combo. Mass Production. Area Awareness. Killing Curse. All lit up, not a single one grayed out.
Su Mu's heart raced slightly, but his expression remained unchanged. He closed the panel, looked up, and glanced discreetly at Zhang Peng's group. Some were whispering, some were repeatedly checking their panels, and some were trying to use skills but nothing happened.
The expressions on their faces...confusion, unease, and a hint of panic... didn't seem feigned.
His gaze fell on his talent bar, at the icons that were still lit up. There was only one explanation... his talent was on a different level from these people's. Number Seven had disabled "conventional" talents and skills, while his talent was "rule-based," something even this secret realm couldn't suppress.
Su Mu kept this to himself and turned to look at Lin Yuwei. He didn't speak, but typed a message on his communicator and sent it. The communication function was still working.
"You've lost your talent too?"
Lin Yuwei glanced down at her communicator and replied quickly: "Gone. My class is gone, my skills are gone, even the enchantments on my equipment are gone." She paused, then added, "That's not right. Yours is gone too, right?"
Su Mu didn't reply. He put away the communicator and looked at Number Seven. Number Seven was tilting his head, looking at Zhang Peng's group with a faint smile on his lips, as if watching a group of ants crawling back and forth in a glass tank.
Zhang Peng's people have already started discussing it.
"My talent is completely useless now!" Zhao Qiang examined his battle axe several times, then tried chopping at empty air, but nothing happened. His expression was grim. "I've even lost the axe's enchantment effect; this axe is just a piece of iron now."
"My profession is gone too." He Lin's voice remained cool and detached, but her knuckles gripping her weapon were slightly white. "My sensory abilities have completely disappeared. Now I'm no different from an ordinary person."
"This is the secret realm?" A young voice emerged from the crowd, carrying a complex mix of barely suppressed excitement and nervousness. "I saw someone mention it on the public channel, saying it's a special space in this world, containing treasures, legacies, and..."
"You believe what those people in the channel say?" another person interrupted him. "I've seen people say the secret realm is for fighting monsters, some say it's a maze, and others say it's a quiz competition. There are all sorts of things said, and none of them seem reliable."
"Following the typical novel formula, shouldn't this kind of place be for leveling up by fighting monsters or for inheriting skills and knowledge?"
"This is reality. Not fiction."
Zhang Peng remained silent. He stood in the center of the crowd, head bowed, looking at the iron cage in his hands. The pangolin was curled up inside, its breathing weak, the bloodstains on its scales already dried.
He was silent for a few seconds, then raised his head, his gaze shifting from Number Seven to Su Mu, and then from Su Mu to Lin Yuwei.
"Those two people," he began, his voice soft but steady, "we didn't see them when we came in. They arrived before us."
All eyes turned to Su Mu and Lin Yuwei.
"Could it be... the person who killed those monsters outside?" someone whispered. "Those leopard, hyena, and wild dog carcasses were all killed with a single blow. If it were a team, it would take at least five or six people to clear them that quickly. But there were only two of them..."
"He could also be the owner of a secret realm," another person chimed in, their gaze fixed on Number Seven. "Look at the clothes he's wearing, and his demeanor... he's not an ordinary person. And he said this is his secret realm. Someone who possesses a secret realm wouldn't be weak, would they?"
Zhao Qiang glanced at Number Seven, then at Su Mu, and scratched his head: "What are these two doing here? Are they also here to explore the secret realm?"
"A secret realm doesn't necessarily have only one entrance." He Lin's voice drifted over from the side, her tone calm, but her gaze kept scanning back and forth between Su Mu and Lin Yuwei. "They might have come in from another entrance. Or perhaps... they have some kind of relationship with the owner of this secret realm."
He Lin's gaze finally settled on Su Mu. He had been standing there, barely moving since she entered.
Unlike the others, he didn't frantically check the panel, didn't talk to anyone around him, and didn't even glance at them. His gaze remained fixed on Number Seven, occasionally sweeping across the four walls of the space, as if measuring something.
That composure wasn't feigned.
Unfortunately, her senses completely failed here. She couldn't judge whether the person was strong or weak, friend or foe, or even discern the level of their equipment. She was practically blind.
