Chapter 211 The Damaged Coin-Operated Machine
【Mutant Rabbit (Lv2)】
[Race: Mutant Beast]
【Attribute: Extremely Low】
[Note: Herbivorous animal, docile in nature, slightly more aggressive after mutation, but basically harmless to humans.]
Lin Yuwei straightened the rabbit's severed leg, pressed her palm against the wound, and a faint green light seeped from her palm.
The broken leg bones made a slight "crackling" sound in her hands. The dislocated bones were pulled back into place by some force, and the torn muscles began to heal.
The rabbit struggled a few times, but she held it down, and then it stopped moving... It wasn't dead, it was numb.
She loosened the rabbit's legs, and the rabbit landed. It limped for three steps, then all four legs were back to normal, and it ran very fast, disappearing into the grass.
Lin Yuwei crouched in the grass, looking in the direction the rabbit had disappeared, a slight smile playing on her lips.
Su Mu stood not far away, watching this scene expressionlessly. This person had just broken the rabbit's leg, then put it back on, then broke it again, then put it back on. He had been torturing the rabbit for almost ten minutes.
When asked why, the answer was simply that it was to test the effectiveness of a skill.
Lin Yuwei seemed to sense Su Mu's gaze, looked up, and smiled at him: "Healing skills, let's practice our proficiency."
Su Mu didn't reply, turning his head to continue observing the lawn ahead. But he couldn't help but wonder... was this woman a demon?
The two continued walking forward.
The monster density in the zoo is lower than outside, but the level distribution is wider. The lower-level monsters are small herbivores of level two or three, while the higher-level ones include things Su Mu doesn't want to provoke for the time being. Most monsters, upon seeing them, will choose to keep their distance... not out of fear, but out of the instinct to seek advantage and avoid harm.
Su Mu easily dealt with the few who were oblivious; he didn't have much experience, but it saved him the trouble.
As Su Mu passed through a dense forest, he felt the light above his head suddenly dim.
It wasn't clouds blocking the sun; something enormous swept overhead, blocking the sunlight. He looked up sharply and, through the gaps in the treetops, saw a huge golden bird circling low in the sky.
The bird had a wingspan of at least ten meters, each feather resembling a golden sword, gleaming brilliantly in the sunlight. Its head was covered in dark golden scales, and its beak was curved like a scimitar with finely serrated edges. Its eyes were amber, with pupils that were vertical slits, conveying a cold, condescending scrutiny.
A giant python sprang from the forest, its body a deep dark green, estimated to be over fifteen meters long, and thicker than an adult's waist. Its mouth opened, revealing four sharp, inward-curving teeth, as it lunged to bite at the belly of the large golden bird.
The giant bird didn't even flinch. Its claws shot out, precisely grabbing the python's head below its head, while its other claw gripped the python's midsection. The python's body writhed wildly in the air, its tail whipping through the air with a sharp whistling sound, but the bird's claws remained as still as iron clamps.
The giant bird began to rise. It yanked the python out of the forest, its entire body suspended in mid-air like a fish pulled from the water. The bird circled once in the air, then flung the python back to the ground.
"boom......!"
The giant python crashed to the ground, creating a large crater. It wasn't dead yet; its body writhed wildly on the ground, its tail snapping several nearby trees. A large bird swooped down from the sky, its scimitar-like beak slicing precisely at the python's head.
"Snap...!"
The sound of the snake's head shattering was dull yet clear. The python's body stiffened abruptly, then went completely limp, like a large rope with its bones removed, sprawling limply on the ground.
The large bird stood on the python's corpse, tilting its head and glancing at Su Mu with its amber eyes. Just that one glance, and then it lowered its head and began to eat.
Su Mu's dynamic vision was pushed to its limit in those few seconds... He could barely capture the bird's movement trajectory, but those details, the trembling of the feathers, the angle of the claws, the landing point of the beak, were all blurred into a blur.
He tried to use the system to detect the big bird, but the returned information was all question marks.
It wasn't that its level was too high to see; it was that its speed was too fast, and the system's scan couldn't keep up with its movement. This was the first time Su Mu had encountered such a situation... not because of the opponent's level suppression, but purely due to its physical speed, which was so fast that the system couldn't even react in time.
Level 10 or higher. Blue, or possibly even higher.
"Let's go," Su Mu said in a low voice.
He didn't stay where he was to continue observing. Every second spent looking at this kind of creature was a waste. If it decided to make Su Mu its prey, given its speed, he wouldn't even have a chance to escape.
Of course, the most important thing is that the other side has air superiority.
Unfortunately, he was no match for him; otherwise, if he had made a contract with him, he wouldn't have been so passive when encountering danger on the cable car in the future.
Lin Yuwei had already started walking back, even faster than him.
Su Mu quickened his pace, heading away from the large bird. That direction led to the south gate of the zoo.
The two walked through a thicket, bypassed a group of mutated zebras drinking water by the river, and climbed over a collapsed wall, finally leaving the dense forest behind.
Su Mu stopped and glanced at his experience bar. He hadn't killed many monsters along the way, but their levels were quite high, and he had gained several hundred more experience points, bringing him one step closer to level eight.
After walking for another half hour, an open area appeared ahead.
South gate of the zoo.
The scenery here is completely different from other places.
There were no rampant plants, no wandering monsters, and far fewer bloodstains on the ground, as if something had "cleaned" the area. The iron gate at the entrance was crooked, and the chains on it were broken into several pieces, scattered on the ground.
The machine that Su Mu was looking for was located on the wall to the right of the entrance.
That really was a broken coin-operated machine.
It was similar to the vending machines he had seen outside... about the height of a person, with a metal shell and a glass display case on the front. Inside, there should have been samples of various drinks, but now the glass was broken, and the display case was empty, with only a few rusty metal racks remaining.
There is a faded plastic panel on the top of the machine with the words "Coin-operated Automatic Vending Machine" printed on it, but the words are too blurry to read.
But what's most striking about it isn't its dilapidated state, but its shape.
The entire machine looked as if it had been squeezed from both sides by a giant hand. The metal casing was dented inward, the frame of the glass display case was twisted and deformed, and the metal panel of the coin slot was pressed up, revealing the dark, gaping mechanism inside.
The opening at the bottom was flattened, so small that not even a finger could fit in.
Su Mu crouched behind a large tree fifty meters away, carefully observing the surroundings for ten minutes with his glasses. No red dots. No signs of life.
This area was unnaturally clean, as if something had driven away or killed all the monsters.
"Go and take a look around," Su Mu said.
