Su Mu frowned, took a few steps closer, and shone his flashlight on the object.

There was a number engraved on the wall... It wasn't any numbering format he'd ever seen before, but the way the numbers were written reminded him of the numbers he'd seen on military uniforms before.

His brow furrowed.

Su Mu took two steps back, his gaze sweeping across the entire wall. Bloodstains stretched from the top of the wall to the ground, and several spent cartridge cases lay scattered at the base... not the 9mm cartridge cases he used, but larger caliber ones. The surfaces of the cartridge cases had oxidized and turned black, but the edges still retained a coppery sheen, indicating that they hadn't been discarded for long.

On the other side of the wall, a corpse lay.

He was wearing a military uniform. A blue-green combat uniform with insignia embroidered on his shoulder straps that he couldn't recognize, and a blood-soaked notebook tucked into his breast pocket. The body had been dead for at least a day; the skin was an unnatural grayish-white, covered with fine cracks, as if something had drained all the moisture from within.

Su Mu squatted down and flipped through the notebook. The handwriting inside was messy and hurried, and most of it was blurred by blood. Only a few words could be barely made out: "Dark Zone", "High Level", "Retreat", "Unable to contact Headquarters".

He put the notebook back in the corpse's pocket and stood up.

This was already the thirtieth or so people he had seen wearing this kind of military uniform tonight.

They weren't the same corpse, but from different places, at different times, and in different ways... Some were torn apart by monsters, some were hacked to pieces by sharp weapons, and some were blown apart from the inside by something. But they had one thing in common: they all operated in teams of five.

Five people. A small team.

The presence of more than thirty bodies means that at least six squads, totaling thirty people, died in this area.

Su Mu's brows furrowed into a tight knot.

If these soldiers are all elite... just as he had guessed, possessing combat power and equipment far exceeding that of ordinary people... then how strong must something be to kill more than thirty elite soldiers?

He suppressed this question in his mind for the time being and continued walking forward.

After walking for about twenty minutes, a burst of gunfire suddenly came from the street ahead.

It wasn't the sporadic "bang bang" of a pistol, but a continuous, rhythmic barrage... "rat-a-tat-tat-tat..." like some heavy automatic weapon unleashing its firepower. The sound exploded in the empty street, making the windows of the buildings on both sides vibrate.

Su Mu sidestepped into the doorway of a building and peeked out in the direction from which the gunshots were coming.

About two hundred meters ahead, an armored vehicle was blocking the road. A six-barreled rotary cannon was mounted on the roof, with long ammunition belts hanging down and piled on the metal roof. A person in a blue-green military uniform was standing on the roof, gripping the cannon handle with both hands, aiming the gun at the horde of monsters surging from the street ahead, and firing wildly.

Six gun barrels spun rapidly in the flash, bullets raining down on the monsters, exploding into clouds of blood mist. The monsters' roars mingled with the gunfire, like a chaotic symphony.

Thirty or forty monsters... zombies, corrupted beings, stitched monsters, and some things that Su Mu couldn't name... fell down in droves like wheat being harvested under the barrage of the rotary machine gun.

The spent cartridge cases flew out of the ejection port, clattering as they landed on the roof of the vehicle, then rolled down the sloping metal to the ground, carpeting it with a brass-colored layer.

Su Mu frowned slightly as he looked at the rotary machine gun.

This weapon is indeed effective against ordinary level 5 and 6 monsters. However, its effectiveness is greatly reduced when encountering higher-level monsters with thicker armor. Moreover, those monsters... Su Mu could see clearly... most of them were white quality, with only a few green ones, and none of them were higher than level 6.

Killing these monsters, his spear was one shot at a time, and his efficiency might not be slower than that of a machine gun. But the firepower density of that weapon was indeed unmatched by any other gun he had.

But what he really cared about wasn't that machine gun.

He's the guy in front of the armored vehicle, fighting a monster one-on-one.

It was a man in his early thirties, dressed in the same blue-green military uniform, at least 1.9 meters tall, with a muscular build like a wall. He held a broad-bladed battle sword in his hand, the blade about half a meter long, with three deep blood grooves on the back, the edge gleaming coldly in the moonlight.

The monster opposite him was a rock giant with a completely gray-black body.

The giant was much smaller than any of the giants Su Mu had seen before... only about three meters tall... but its body wasn't made of flesh and blood, but rather pieced together from chunks of grayish-black rock. The rock surface was covered with cracks, within which dark red magma flowed slowly, as if something was burning deep underground. Its arms were thicker than a normal person's thigh, and its fists were like two enormous stone hammers, each punch accompanied by a heavy whistling sound.

【Strength: 145】

[Agility: 9]

Su Mu was taken aback.

It wasn't because the monster was particularly strong... a level seven green monster, he could take it down with a single thrust and two follow-up attacks. What surprised him was the soldier's fighting style.

The person did not dodge.

It's not that he doesn't know how to dodge, but that he chose not to.

The giant rock's fist came crashing down, but he held his sword horizontally in front of him, taking the blow head-on. The sound of metal clashing was dull, like the tolling of a bell. The sword's blade bent into an exaggerated arc under the immense impact before snapping back.

The soldier's body sank slightly, leaving two deep footprints in the concrete beneath his feet. His hand was split open, and blood dripped down the hilt of his knife onto the ground. But his expression remained unchanged; he didn't even frown.

He drew his sword and slashed.

The blade struck the giant rock statue's arm, sending sparks and pebbles flying. A deep crack appeared on the statue's arm, from which dark red lava seeped, dripping onto the ground and burning small craters into the road.

The rock colossus's other fist came crashing down.

That person didn't dodge.

A fist slammed into his shoulder with a dull thud. He staggered to the side, his left uniform ripped open, revealing purplish-blue bruises beneath. Gritting his teeth, he didn't utter a sound, and using the momentum of his spinning body, he slashed his right-hand sword hard across the rock giant's neck.
