Zhao Kai didn't insist. He had seen too many people who went their own way; some didn't trust anyone, while others felt more comfortable on their own and saw no need to drag others into it.

"Okay, let us know if you need any help. We're on the 18th floor." After saying that, Zhao Kai turned and left with his team.

After walking a short distance, one of his teammates lowered his voice and asked, "Captain, do you think it looks like it?"

Zhao Kai shook his head: "It doesn't seem like it. The man's demeanor is off; he's too quiet, not like someone who's just killed someone. And did you notice? He doesn't have a long gun in his hand."

"Can we put the spear away now? Like in the system inventory and stuff..."

"There are plenty of things that could be hidden, but that doesn't mean it's him." Zhao Kai waved his hand. "Don't guess. Go upstairs and see if there's anyone else."

The sound of the four people's footsteps gradually faded away, disappearing in the direction of the stairwell.

Su Mu closed the door, leaned against the wall for a few seconds, and only after confirming that they were far away did he reopen the door and silently walk into the corridor.

He didn't take the stairs... Zhao Kai and the others were still looking for someone upstairs, and it would be easy to bump into them if he took the stairs. He walked to the window at the end of the corridor, pushed it open, and slid down the pipes on the exterior wall.

As he landed, he glanced back at the building. From the window on the eighteenth floor, flashlight beams were flickering; Zhao Kai and his team were still searching floor by floor.

Su Mu withdrew his gaze, turned around, and disappeared into the darkness.

After leaving the residential area, Su Mu headed south along the street.

The city at night is completely different from the city during the day.

Darkness covered all the details like a thick blanket, leaving only blurry outlines of the buildings, and the shops on both sides of the street looked like gaping black mouths.

Occasionally, a few low roars could be heard from afar. It was unclear what kind of monster was making them, as the direction and distance were unknown.

The giants were much sparser than he had expected.

Such a 20-meter-tall special giant is not common in this area.

He walked for more than half an hour before finally spotting a giant of similar size in the distance. The giant was squatting next to a collapsed building, seemingly gnawing on something, while several smaller giants roamed around it. Su Mu didn't provoke it and took a detour to continue walking.

The most common type is a giant who is about five meters tall.

Most of these little guys are between level five and six, of ordinary quality, with the occasional green one.

They roamed the streets in small groups, some rummaging through the trash, some fighting each other, and some just standing there in a daze, like statues.

Su Mu didn't intentionally try to fight the five-meter-tall giants. They were too weak, and the experience gained was too little.

A level 5 giant only gives 0.1 experience, and a level 6 giant only gives 1. He would deal with them casually when he encountered them on the road, a simple matter of using his spear to kill them and retrieve them, without delaying his journey. But he wouldn't stop specifically to farm them.

His main targets were giants who were over ten meters tall.

These giants are usually around level seven or eight, and their quality is mainly white and green.

A level 7 green giant can give him a dozen or so experience points, while a level 8 giant can give him more than twenty. Although it's not as exaggerated as the level 10 special giant's more than sixty points, the advantage is that there are more of them.

The monsters were indeed stronger after dark. Su Mu could clearly sense that... the giants were more irritable, more aggressive, and reacted a little faster than during the day.

However, the experience gained did increase; killing monsters of the same level and quality at night yielded nearly 20% more experience than during the day.

However, he soon discovered something interesting.

Not all monsters are active at night.

As he passed an intersection, he saw an overturned bus parked on the side of the road, with several zombies lying beside it.

They remained motionless, as if asleep. Su Mu approached quietly, but the zombies didn't even blink, their breathing slow and even, showing no reaction to their surroundings.

Not all monsters are nocturnal.

Zombies, goblins, and some small monsters he couldn't name would enter a state similar to hibernation at night.

They will not attack unless disturbed. The giants, however, are more active at night, as if they have found some kind of freedom in the darkness.

This differentiation made Su Mu's actions much easier. He only needed to pay attention to the giant's movements; he didn't need to bother with the other sleeping monsters.

After grinding for more than two hours, Su Mu's experience points increased from a little over 800 to nearly 1,500, bringing him one step closer to level seven.

The zoo's coordinates are getting closer and closer; at this rate, he should be able to complete most of the journey before dawn.

As Su Mu passed a small supermarket, he slowed down.

It wasn't because the supermarket was anything special... the shutter door was half-closed, and it was pitch black inside, so you couldn't see anything. It was because there were people at the supermarket entrance.

Five people, three men and two women, were carrying things out of the supermarket. Some were carrying cases of bottled water, some were holding bags of rice, and some were stuffing canned goods into their backpacks. They moved quickly and worked in perfect coordination, much better than the scattered individuals they had encountered before.

Su Mu didn't deliberately hide, nor did he go up to greet him. He walked normally along the other side of the street, preparing to pass in front of the supermarket.

Just as he was about 20 or 30 meters away from the supermarket, a five-meter-tall giant suddenly appeared from the alley next to him.

The giant's grayish-white skin gleamed eerily in the dim light of the streetlamp. He held a steel bar that had been salvaged from somewhere, tilted his head, and looked at Su Mu, making indistinct gurgling sounds.

Su Mu didn't even stop walking.

The spear was summoned from the void, and with a casual flick of the wrist, its tip precisely pierced the giant's eye socket, penetrating its skull. The giant's body stiffened for a moment, then crashed to the ground with a thud, raising a cloud of dust. The entire process took less than two seconds.

Su Mu holstered his gun and continued walking forward without looking back.

The five people at the supermarket entrance stopped what they were doing at the same time, and everyone froze on the spot.

"Damn..." A young man with a buzz cut nearly dropped the water tank in his hand. "He just... killed that giant with a single shot?"

"A level 5 giant, one shot." A girl with a ponytail next to him said in a slightly hoarse voice, "Even our strongest player takes forever to take down a level 5 giant..."

The group exchanged glances, then all turned to look at the person standing at the front... their captain, a man in his early thirties surnamed Liu, whom everyone called Brother Liu. Brother Liu's face was expressionless, but his eyes betrayed him. Those eyes were fixed on Su Mu's back, his pupils reflecting the figure growing ever more distant in the night.

"Brother Liu, should we go up and ask him?" one of the team members whispered. "If we could get him on our team..."
