Chapter 163 Residential Building
Time slipped away little by little as they battled monsters.
Su Mu did not covet more.
He only operates in areas where giants are scarce, targeting level 8 monsters of white and green quality.
When he encounters a blue-quality monster, he'll test it first; if he finds it difficult, he'll give up decisively. If he encounters more than two monsters clustered together, he'll take a detour.
In three hours, he killed nearly twenty giants, and his experience points increased to over 700.
Midway through, he encountered a blue-quality giant, over twenty-five meters tall, and level ten.
Su Mu fired a single shot from a distance to test the waters... The bullet struck the back of the neck, creating only a fist-sized hole, and had almost no effect on the giant's movements.
He checked the other party's attributes and found that they were at least twice as good as those of white and green monsters of the same level.
Without saying a word, Su Mu turned and ran.
It's not that he can't win... If he goes all out and uses every means at his disposal, he's confident he can kill him. But that will take time, and during that time, the other giants in the vicinity will be attracted by the commotion of the battle.
He would then be facing not just one level 10 blue giant, but a whole group. In urban warfare, the worst thing you can do is get bogged down in a protracted battle.
However, he did take this opportunity to test the practical effects of his new talent.
When facing a level seven green giant, he didn't use a gun, but instead took out a long spear. He started with a thrust, then launched the giant into the air, followed by a combo.
Unlike before, each of his attacks was accompanied by afterimages appearing behind him... not just one, but countless dense ones, spreading out behind him like a peacock's tail. And the attacks of those afterimages would trigger ricochets, bouncing off to different parts of the giant's body, then bouncing off again and attacking once more.
One thrust. He only thrust once. But dozens of bloody holes burst open in the giant's body at the same time, as if countless spears had pierced him from all sides simultaneously. The giant's body paused in mid-air for a moment, then plummeted straight down, crashing to the ground, lifeless.
Su Mu holstered his gun, stared at the corpse on the ground, and remained silent for a few seconds. With his afterimage combo and ricochet combo, plus his existing weakness lock-on and extra attacks... now, even a casual basic attack of his dealt astronomical damage to a single target. Those low-level monsters couldn't even last a second against him.
......
At 5:40 p.m., the sun was already beginning to set in the west.
Su Mu glanced at the map. It was at least three hours' journey to the zoo, and that was the ideal straight-line distance. Adding in the monsters, detours, and battles he might encounter along the way, arriving before dark was simply impossible.
He decided to find a place to spend the night first.
......
He walked along the street for about twenty minutes and found a residential area.
Unlike the city center, this area isn't filled with skyscrapers, but it does have a residential building of about twenty stories, which is considered the tallest building in the area.
Su Mu stood downstairs and looked around for a while... The building's exterior walls were grayish-white, some tiles had fallen off, and some windows were broken while others were still intact. The shops on the ground floor were all closed, and the roller shutters were covered with various graffiti, making it impossible to tell their original colors.
He entered the building. The stairwell was dark, with only a faint light filtering in from the window at the end. He walked quietly, ascending each floor. The stairwell was quiet; there were no monster roars, nor the sound of human voices. Occasionally, he could smell mildew and dust, but no blood or putrid odor... This was a good sign.
Su Mu walked all the way to the fifteenth floor before stopping.
He chose a relatively clean room with no clutter near the entrance and used his Disassemble skill to unlock the door. The room wasn't large, with two bedrooms and a living room; the furniture was covered in dust, but it was still fairly tidy.
The window faces south, offering a view of the distant city skyline. The setting sun is sinking below the horizon, turning half the sky a dark red.
He quickly checked the room—the kitchen, the bathroom, the bedroom, the wardrobe, under the bed—making sure there were no monsters or other people. Then he walked to the window, turned sideways, and glanced at the street below out of the corner of his eye.
nobody.
But he noticed that there were faint figures moving around in the windows of the buildings across the street.
They weren't monsters, they were people... Just like him, they had chosen this residential area as their place to spend the night. Some were smoking at the windows, some were looking out, and some were drawing their curtains. Su Mu's gaze met that of one of them, who paused for a moment, then quickly drew the curtains.
He looked away, unconcerned. The number of survivors in the city was growing rapidly; the number of cables displayed on the public channel was approaching one hundred. Even if only half of the people on each cable survived, there would still be nearly fifty thousand people scattered throughout the city.
With 50,000 people distributed across such a large city, the population density is not high, but in certain geographically advantageous areas, encountering other survivors is a high probability event.
Su Mu pulled out a compressed biscuit and a bottle of mineral water from his backpack, sat down in the corner by the window, and ate while opening the chat channel.
The regional channel was less active than during the day, but still quite lively. The number of people in the upper right corner showed that there were still over four hundred people alive on his cable line... nearly a hundred fewer than in the morning.
He scrolled through the messages, writing down the useful information one by one.
Most of the news is about military matters.
"Has anyone gone to the power plant in the northern suburbs? What's the situation there?"
"I went! There really are military personnel there, with walls, sentries, and weapons. It looks very organized. They said they will organize a breakout tomorrow evening and head towards the evacuation point."
"Really? Is it reliable?"
"I don't know if they're reliable or not, but it's better than wandering around aimlessly on my own. I've decided to go with them."
"I'm going too. You can't survive alone in this crappy city."
"Anyone want to team up and go together? We can look out for each other on the way."
Su Mu continued scrolling down. Aside from the topic of the military, some people were sharing their experiences of surviving at night. Most of these experiences came from intelligence gathered by the military, but some were things the survivors had figured out on their own.
