A passage about ten meters wide appeared amidst the vines, leading straight to the other side of the square. The vines on both sides were charred black, some still burning, and some had already retreated underground.

Su Mu didn't move. He stood on a high platform in the distance, his telescope aimed at the gap.

A moment later, more noise was heard.

The Salvation Guild members were clearly unwilling to make just one test... or rather, they felt that since the explosives could blast open the passage, then the passage must be safe.

Three vehicles, not trucks, but sedans and SUVs, drove out of the parking lot behind the building. The doors were also welded shut, and the people in the driver's seats were trembling.

Two or three cars lined up and rushed toward the gap.

The first vehicle rushed into the gap at high speed, its tires crushing the charred debris and kicking up a cloud of gray-black dust.

The second car followed closely behind, while the third car was a little slower.

Su Mu could hear the roar of the engine echoing across the empty square, the sound of tires rolling over gravel, and the rapid breathing of the people in the driver's seat... Of course, that was in his imagination; he was too far away to hear anything.

The first vehicle is about to pass through the gap.

Then, the ground cracked open.

It's not from either side of the gap, but directly below the front of the car.

The cement road surface seemed to be torn open from the inside by an invisible giant hand. The cracks widened rapidly, and several thick, blood-red vines shot out from the ground, wrapping around the front of the first car like giant snakes from bottom to top.

The front of the car was suddenly lifted up, the entire car body stood upright, and then it was caught in the vines. The metal was dented, the glass shattered, and the roof collapsed—the whole process took less than two seconds. The car was twisted into a pile of scrap metal by the vines, and dark red blood flowed from the gaps in the driver's compartment.

The second car tried to brake, but it was too late.

It crashed into the rear of the first car, the airbags deployed, and the person in the driver's seat was slammed into their seat. The vines gave him no chance to catch his breath... Another vine pierced through the car door from the side, like a giant needle, penetrating the door, the seat, and the person in it all. The person was pulled from the driver's seat, their body arcing through the air before being sucked in by the fleshy "mouth" at the tip of the vine.

Su Mu watched as the person's body went from plump to shriveled in seconds, like an empty beverage carton. Then the vines loosened, and the dried corpse fell to the ground, breaking into several pieces.

The third car stopped. It wasn't the driver who braked; rather, vines caught up with it from behind, piercing the rear and running through the entire car. The roof was ripped open, and the person in the driver's seat was dragged out, sucked dry, and just as thoroughly dried up. The whole process took less than ten seconds.

Three cars, three people—not one of them escaped.

Su Mu put down his binoculars, his face expressionless.

The vines didn't retreat underground. They shredded, twisted, and compressed the wreckage of the vehicles into iron balls, then scattered them on both sides of the passageway, as if building a wall.

More vines sprouted from the ground, filling the gaps created by the blast. New branches intertwined with the old, charred debris, and the passage visibly shrank, narrowed, and eventually disappeared completely.

The square has returned to its previous appearance, and is even denser than before.

Su Mu put away his binoculars, leaned against the wall, and had already made up his mind.

This vine was much smarter than he had expected.

It doesn't just passively wait for its prey to approach; it has learned to ambush... deliberately letting explosives blast a hole, deliberately letting vehicles rush in, and then annihilating them all at the most opportune moment.

It's testing, learning, and adapting. The first time the truck probed, it only reacted passively. The second time, it had learned to lure the enemy in. If given a few more chances, what will it do?

To make matters worse, the vine became enraged.

It began to lash out wildly at everything around it. The vines swept across the square like whips, whipping up everything on the ground... gravel, corpses, wreckage of trucks... and then slamming them to the ground.

Some vines even reached the buildings across the street, causing deep cracks in the walls, with broken bricks and dust falling down.

Several monsters wandering nearby were entangled in the vines.

A level 4 Frankenstein's monster, a level 5 zombie, and a horde of corrupted zombies that seemed to have appeared out of nowhere. The vines coiled around them, drained them dry, and then tossed them on the ground like trash.

Su Mu's brows were furrowed tightly.

This vine was much more difficult to deal with than he had anticipated.

It's not because of its sheer power... its individual combat strength might not even be as good as that level eight blue wall-breaking crawler... but because its regenerative ability is terrifying. Severed vines can regrow within ten minutes, and its root system is so deep and extensive that it can regenerate indefinitely as long as the root system isn't damaged.

Moreover, Su Mu noticed something.

The corpses of the monsters killed and drained by the vines did not disappear. Their shriveled remains were scattered across the square, as if proclaiming something.

This vine has intelligence.

Not tall. Its behavior is still very primitive... eating, expanding, attacking anything that comes near. But it has learned one thing: to leave its corpse behind as a warning to other creatures to stay away.

Su Mu put down his binoculars, leaned against the wall, and remained silent for a long time.

He needs to figure out a way to leave this place.

However, we're surrounded by these things, and the only way out might be to go back to the campus, but there are also...

What other options are there?

Su Mu's gaze fell on Lin Xiaohe.

She was crouching on the other side of the rooftop, sorting through the supplies she had looted from the corpses. Several white skill books, a few bottles of healing potions, some miscellaneous materials, and a spare pistol. She sorted and neatly arranged the items against the wall.

Su Mu remembered her talent.

hang gliding.

"You really can't carry people on your flights?" Su Mu asked.

Lin Xiaohe looked up, paused for a moment, then shook her head: "No. I'm not strong enough to lift it. Besides, my own gliding isn't even stable..."

Her voice grew softer and softer, as if she were embarrassed by her "uselessness".

Su Mu was silent for a moment, then asked, "So, how heavy can you lift while flying?"

Lin Xiaohe thought for a moment: "Twenty or thirty kilograms...maybe. After upgrading, I feel much stronger than before. Before, at level two, my maximum load was about ten kilograms. Now that I've upgraded to level two, it should be more than twenty kilograms."

Su Mu frowned.

too low.
