Ghost Immortal

Chapter 9 Falling Victim

As long as the bald old man gets close to Li Feng, the three immobilization talismans in his sleeve will come in handy.

Li Feng got up from the ground, checked all the arrangements several times, and was very satisfied with his masterpiece.

The mud trap was perfectly camouflaged, with dry grass and leaves evenly distributed, and the color of the topsoil completely matching the surrounding ground.

The angle of the bluestone slabs next to the formation is just right. People walking in from the temple gate will subconsciously walk around the bluestone slabs and step right into the formation.

The remains of the Iron Guard leaned against the wall, its fallen posture quite natural.

The shattered stone slabs and the overturned cauldron looked incredibly real, as if a fierce battle had just taken place.

Li Feng lay back down on the ground and closed his eyes.

The sun set, and the dilapidated temple was plunged into darkness.

Li Feng opened his eyes in the darkness. Although he had not yet fully mastered his spiritual eye technique, his five senses were already sharp enough to see every corner of the temple in the dark.

The night wind blew through the dilapidated temple, creating a mournful sound.

The bald old man didn't come tonight.

Li Feng didn't sleep all night.

The next day dawned.

Li Feng sighed.

Old Lai Tou still hasn't returned.

On the third day, still nothing.

Day 4, Day 5, Day 6...

That old geezer is like a kid who ran away from home and went crazy playing, and he doesn't want to come back.

Li Feng lay on the ground pretending to be dead day and night, only occasionally getting up to stretch his muscles and replenish his water and food.

The old man's leftover coarse rice had long been eaten up, but Li Feng found some wild fruits and vegetables in the mountains behind the dilapidated temple. He cooked them in a cauldron and ate them. Although the spiritual energy was thin, it was enough to fill his stomach.

He grew increasingly anxious, like someone who had been longing for a cardboard bottle for a long time but couldn't wait for the tricycle that collects recyclables.

Waiting is the most agonizing thing. That bald old man is a real pain in the neck. When he comes back, Li Feng vows to give him a good beating!

Fortunately, on the evening of the seventh day, Li Feng finally heard noises coming from down the mountain.

The footsteps coming from the foot of the mountain were very frequent.

The sound of footsteps crunching on the gravel of the mountain path grew clearer and clearer as they approached.

Li Feng's heart suddenly raced, but he immediately used the Breath Concealment Technique to suppress his heartbeat and breathing to the lowest possible level, doing his best to act like a dead body.

Now is the time to test the actors' self-discipline!

The footsteps grew closer, and someone stepped onto the stone steps outside the temple gate.

One step, two steps... like claws, like the steps of a devil.

The footsteps were heavy, as if carrying a heavy burden, both arduous and exhausting.

Li Feng squinted, staring at the temple entrance.

A hunched figure appeared like a ghost at the temple entrance.

From Li Feng's perspective, the person blocking the entrance looked like a vengeful ghost entering the gates of hell. Apart from the fact that this person was beginning to take human form, there was an endless dark abyss behind him.

Li Feng almost didn't recognize this person.

Even though the bald old man was hunched over when he left, he was still very energetic, and his cloudy little eyes revealed shrewdness and cunning.

But the old man standing at the temple gate now looks like an old tree struck by lightning.

His already hunched back became even more hunched, almost bent into a bow.

His worn-out Taoist robe was dusty and tattered, covered in mud and dark red stains, with the cuffs torn in half, revealing his thin, bony arms.

His arm was left with a gruesome wound, stretching from his wrist to his elbow, the edges of which were blackened, as if corroded by something.

His swollen, old face, covered in festering sores, was even more frightening.

The scabies that had almost healed festered again, oozing yellow pus mixed with black scabs, making the whole face look like rotten flesh that had been decaying for a month.

The few strong, sparse, gray hairs on his head were mostly pulled out, revealing his scalp covered in sores.

His cloudy eyes were bloodshot, his eye sockets were sunken, his cheekbones were high and prominent, and he was so thin that he looked like an old monkey.

He was clutching a lacquered wooden box tightly in his arms, the box covered in dirt and dark red bloodstains.

The box wasn't big, but he held it tightly, as if it were the most precious treasure in the world.

Li Feng noticed that the old man was missing half of his little finger on his left hand, and the wound was wrapped with a blackened rag that was soaked in blood and still dripping.

The old man leaned against the doorpost, standing at the temple entrance. His cloudy eyes swept over the mess inside the temple, and his pupils suddenly contracted into two small dots.

He first saw the remains of the Iron Guard leaning against the wall. All the joints of the Iron Guard's limbs were shattered, most of the armor had fallen off, and a fist-sized hole had been blown open in the chest, with the bluish-gray flesh rolled up to reveal the stark white bones and dried black blood inside.

The empty eye sockets stared at the temple roof, motionless.

The old man's expression changed drastically in an instant, but he did not rush towards the Iron Guard immediately. He remained vigilant and quickly scanned other parts of the temple.

All I could see was an overturned cauldron and a dilapidated temple in disarray.

His face grew increasingly grim, but he wasn't panicked yet.

But when he saw Li Feng lying in the temple, his life hanging in the balance, he panicked instantly.

Li Feng lay curled up on his side on the ground, his clothes tattered, his breathing weak, and his chest not rising and falling, as if he had been unconscious for a long time.

A flicker of fear instantly appeared in the bald old man's cloudy eyes.

He feared that the elixir he had painstakingly refined over a decade would be wasted.

"Feng'er!"

The old man screamed as if he had lost his grandson, and stumbled toward Li Feng.

He was walking very fast at the moment, not at all like a seriously injured old man.

I bypassed the gravel at the temple entrance and stepped onto the ground next to the bluestone slab without any warning.

The ground here is covered with withered grass and leaves, sprinkled with a layer of topsoil, making it look exactly like the surrounding yellow earth.

Li Feng's heart was pounding, even more so than when he saw his first love.

The old man stepped on it, and the formation was instantly triggered.

A dark yellow light shone on the ground, and the seven spirit stones buried underground glowed at the same time. Array patterns surged underground, and an invisible net was instantly tightened.

The ground beneath the old man's feet sank into a soft, sunken mass, like cotton soaked in water.

His feet sank in, reaching all the way up to his ankles.

The old man's pupils trembled, and an incredulous light appeared in his cloudy little eyes.

"There's a formation? Who's plotting against me?!"

He reacted extremely quickly, pushing off the ground with his other foot, trying to use the momentum to jump out.

Unfortunately, the nature of the swamp formation is that the more you struggle, the deeper you sink. His attempt to jump out did not only fail to free him, but also caused his other foot to sink in as well. Both feet were now up to his knees, making him look quite comical.

The soil on the ground came alive, churning and swirling, tightly enveloping the old man's legs.

The soil surged in from all directions, squeezing his legs, and an invisible hand pulled him down.

The old man nearly dropped the lacquered wooden box from his arms. He hurriedly grabbed the box and looked up in Li Feng's direction.

At this moment, Li Feng had already stood up from the ground, his eyes were cold, and he exuded a sharp aura. He didn't look injured at all.

"Li Feng!"

The bald-headed old man seemed to suddenly realize something, and exclaimed in disbelief.

"You...you've developed spiritual roots? You set up this formation?!"

The old man stared at Li Feng with his cloudy eyes, more surprised than if he had seen a ghost.

He struggled and roared, kicking his legs desperately in the mud, but the more he struggled, the deeper he sank, the mud reaching his upper thighs, as if he had been turned into a human pig.

"Impossible! Absolutely impossible! You haven't even taken the last ingredient of the powerful medicine, how could you possibly develop a spiritual root!"
