Taoist priest goes to America
Chapter 15 In the Zombie Car
Another person crawled out of the carriage. It was a sheep-faced man whose head was covered in blood from being bitten. Half of his scalp had been torn off, revealing half of his face behind the mask. He used his only remaining hand to cling to the door frame and dragged half of his body out of the carriage.
Ang Lee kicked him in the shoulder, sending him flying back into the carriage.
Ang Lee then closed the car's sliding door and locked it with the driver's key.
"No! No! Please! I don't want to die! I don't want to..." The sheep-faced man's eyes widened as he cried and begged Li An in English to let him out. His hands pounded on the car door, leaving bloody handprints on the transparent window.
Ang Lee watched the sheep-faced man cry indifferently, with no intention of changing his mind.
At this moment, another hand reached out from behind the ram-faced man. It was bluish-black, thick, and stiff, and it grabbed the ram-faced man's wrist, dragging him inside.
The sheep-faced man struggled desperately, his fingernails scraping against the carriage with a sharp sound, until the banging on the door stopped.
The four men were crammed into the narrow carriage, where Lao Bai was tearing and biting wildly.
The vehicle shook violently. Some people kicked at the doors, while others banged their heads against the windows. Finally, someone fired a shot; the bullet ricocheted inside the vehicle and struck someone.
Ang Lee leaned against the bread truck door, took out a Marlboro from his pocket, lit one, and took a delicious bite.
The vibrations inside the carriage continued.
Blood seeped from the gap in the sliding door, dripping down the van's footrest and pooling on the floor. The windows were smeared with blood, and the sounds of bones cracking and gurgling as people swallowed could be heard from inside the van.
The vibrations in the car gradually slowed down, with each vibration becoming longer and more frequent.
Ang Lee held the cigarette between his fingers, flicked off the ash, and looked as relaxed as an office worker waiting for coffee. The smoke he exhaled from his nose was immediately dispersed by the night breeze.
After about ten minutes, the shaking in the carriage finally stopped.
Ang Lee stubbed out his cigarette on the car door, flicked the butt away, unlocked the door, and opened it.
As the door slid open, a strong smell of blood wafted out of the carriage; there were no living people left inside.
Old White squatted there, the tent cloth soaked in blood, turning from dark green to blackish-red. Its mouth was still moving, as if it were chewing something.
Hearing the door open, it raised its head, its blood-red eyes looking at Li An, a dark thread hanging from the corner of its mouth, it was hard to tell if it was blood or saliva.
"That's enough," Li An said.
Old White stopped chewing and swallowed what was in his mouth. He stood up, his body half-bent over in the carriage, the tent fabric covered with bits of meat and hair from who-knows-who.
It stepped over the corpse on the ground, walked out from the side, and stood in front of Li An, blood dripping from its body.
The system screen popped up.
[Corpse Servant kills one living creature +0.5 points, devours four living creatures +4 points, evolution progress: Purple Zombie → White-haired Zombie (5.7/100)]
[White downy hairs have been detected appearing on the corpse servants' bodies; their defense, strength, and speed have all increased.]
[Current Status: White-haired Zombie (Beginner)]
Ang Lee glanced at Lao Bai. A few fine white hairs peeked out from the edge of the hole in the tent fabric, like frost on grayish-purple skin. There weren't many, but at least there were some.
A faint light seemed to appear deep within Lao Bai's pupils, more like some kind of nascent consciousness.
He turned around and checked the people in the carriage.
Ang Lee glanced around the carriage. There were four bodies torn to pieces by Old Bai, plus the lion-headed man whose head had been slapped away and the driver in the driver's seat whose head he had blown off—a total of six people, none of them alive.
But he remembered one more thing—the man whose right eye he had stabbed and whose knee he had broken, the rat-faced man who had initially pointed a gun at the back of his head.
Ang Lee walked over and saw that the rat-faced man was still lying on the cement ground, with half a chicken wing bone stuck in his right eye socket, and his eye was swollen to a purplish-black color.
His left knee was bent to one side, and his trouser leg was soaked in blood.
The intense pain made him delirious. His head was on the side of the ground, his mouth was wide open in agony, drool was dripping all over the ground, and blood was also dripping from his eyes, mixing with the liquid.
He was still struggling to breathe, his chest heaving, and he was uttering incoherent groans.
Ang Lee crouched down, removed the rat mask from his face, and patted his face with the barrel of his gun.
"Feed".
The rat-faced man opened his only remaining left eye, and it took him a while to make out that it was Ang Lee. His face was that of a rugged Eastern European, with blond hair and blue eyes, thick lips that were trembling, and teeth chattering, making a "de de de" sound.
"Who is your boss?" Li An asked.
The rat-faced man did not answer, but made a swallowing sound in his throat.
Ang Lee pressed the gun barrel directly to his forehead. "Who sent you? Who's the boss? What's his name? Where are you?"
"Shoot! You won't let me go anyway!" The rat-faced man suddenly became agitated, raised his head sharply and shouted, causing blood to gush from his right eye socket, from which grayish-white liquid flowed out.
Ang Lee looked at him and put away his gun with great interest.
“I assure God,” Ang Lee said, extending his right arm and raising his right hand to his face, palm facing him, “if you tell the truth, I won’t kill you.”
"We'll also help you call a 911 so you can get timely medical attention."
A glimmer of hope flashed in the rat-faced man's left eye, but he still hesitated.
At this moment, Old Bai had somehow emerged from the carriage and was standing behind Li An. A piece of flesh, whose identity was unknown, was still hanging from one of his palms, and blood was dripping from his grayish-white fingers.
It lowered its head, its blood-red eyes peering through the seams of the tent fabric at the rat-faced man on the ground.
The rat-faced man saw Old Bai and his eyes widened in shock. This monster, covered in blood, with white fur peeking out from the holes in the tent, bits of flesh hanging from the corner of its mouth, and an empty look in its blood-red eyes, was truly unlike anything from the human world.
Tears welled up in his left eye from fright. He tried to open his mouth to shout, but his throat seemed to be stuck and he couldn't make a sound.
"I...I'll talk..." Under Old Bai's pressure, the rat-faced man finally spoke, his voice stammering.
"I...I don't know...we were just doing it for money..."
"You don't know who the boss is?"
"I don't know... I really don't know. The boss never shows his face, we always communicate online... Oh, right! His profile picture is a rabbit mask..."
As the rat-faced man finished speaking, he struggled to take out his phone, unlocked it, and handed it to Ang Lee.
Their communication took place on Signal, the same platform Nigel, the former head of the scavengers, had instructed him to use for trading corpses.
In these private chat groups featuring animal masks, photos of Ang Lee and his movements were constantly being shared. The pinned message tagging everyone was: capture Ang Lee alive and bring him back.
Signal is very secretive; all that's known is that their boss's face is a rabbit mask. The boss is also very clever, saying he'll be notified after the mission is complete, and then he'll tell the kidnappers where to take the person.
"This mask looks so familiar..." Li An was speechless. Wasn't this the rabbit-faced man who was walking the dog on the subway?
What's going on? That guy on the subway looked at me strangely, and now he's even getting someone to kidnap me? I'm starting to think it's the Skull Finger gang coming for revenge.
"We're only responsible for arresting people. As long as the boss thinks someone is interesting, he'll tell us to arrest them... to 'train' them..." the rat-faced man said quietly, his eyes darting around.
"Discipline what?" Li An's tone rose, and Old Bai immediately leaned down, bringing his face close to the rat-faced man's.
"I don't know... I really don't know..." Rat Face started crying again, terrified. "I'm just an errand boy... Please... don't kill me..."
Ang Lee looked him up and down, and from his flustered expression and the changes in his demeanor, it seemed that he really didn't know anything else.
"Okay... I believe you," Li An said slowly. "You should tell me everything you know." At the same time, Lao Bai straightened up and took his face away from the rat-faced man.
The rat-faced man was overjoyed, his lips trembling as he said, "Thank you. Now... can I call 911 now? I'm in so much pain..."
Before he could finish speaking, Old Bai raised his right foot and stomped on his head until it was crushed.
The head exploded like a ripe watermelon. Blood, brain matter, and hair fragments splattered everywhere, landing on Old Bai's calves and the concrete floor.
"I didn't kill you, Old Bai did." Li An shrugged, looking at the headless rat-faced man on the ground. "Next time, remember to make Old Bai swear he won't kill you either."
Old Bai pulled his foot back from the head that had been crushed by it, and shook off the red and white paste that was stuck to the bottom of his foot.
The system screen flickered again.
[The Corpse Servant gains +0.5 points for killing a living creature; evolution progress: Purple Zombie → White-haired Zombie (6.2/100).]
Ang Lee looked at Old Bai, whose fine white hairs gleamed coldly under the dim lights of the parking lot, like a thin layer of frost covering his blood-red body.
"Adding points to upgrade is great, but..."
If you were to send Old White, covered in blood and bits of flesh, to Chinatown to find a talisman shop, it would make the headlines.
"I can't go." Li An covered his face.
