"What got your clothes wet?"

Rosalind leaned closer and sniffed, detecting a smell of alcohol. She frowned and said:

"Went to a bar last night? Maybe you should change your clothes later?"

Wayne shook his head to indicate that he didn't need it.

"No need to change it, it's just that some wine was spilled on it at some point, and you can't see it from a distance."

Rosalind noticed the bluish-black bead on Wayne's wrist and reached out to touch it:

"When did you buy this string of beads? It looks quite pretty."

Wayne took the beads off his wrist and handed them to Rosalind:

"Oh, I forgot who sent it to you. See if you like it. If you do, consider it a little gift from me."

Rosalind played with it in her hands for a while, then handed it back to Wayne:

"It has a nice texture, very similar to one I saw at an auction house. You should wear it."

"OK."

Wayne took the string of beads, put them back on his wrist, and rubbed the beads between his fingertips.

Rosalind then noticed the watch-like instrument on Wayne's wrist and pointed at it, asking:

"And what are you wearing? The hands on the dial are broken. If you want to wear some weird and unusual watches, you can pick one anywhere in the market. I'll pay for it."

Wayne glanced at the watch face on his wrist and said bluntly:

"No need. I don't know where this watch came from. Maybe it was a gift from some girl. It's been so long that I don't even remember it. I can just throw it away if it breaks. I'm too lazy to get a new one."

Seeing his resolute attitude, Rosalind didn't say anything more and continued to organize her thoughts on the preparations for the upcoming meeting.

……

Around 4 p.m., the car arrived in front of the Grand Hotel.

The waiter outside the door quickly stepped forward, opened the car door, and bowed.

Rosalind opened the car door, straightened her suit collar, and stepped out steadily in her low-heeled leather shoes. Her assistant in the passenger seat immediately followed behind her with a briefcase.

Wayne followed closely behind Rosalind, walking alongside her through the lobby and past the passing guests.

The lobby manager bowed.

Rosalind simply nodded slightly, continuing her steps, and crisply instructed Wayne:

"I need to go to the banquet hall on the top floor for a quick meeting. I'll contact you when I'm done."

"it is good."

Wein and I took the elevator to the top floor.

The area around the top-floor banquet hall was a gathering place for celebrities, mostly businessmen and politicians in formal suits and tuxedos, with waiters carrying silver trays moving among them.

Rosalind and her assistant entered the banquet hall.

Wayne found a sofa in the lounge area outside the banquet hall and sat down.

Looking at the silver tea set and desserts placed next to the sofa, I inexplicably felt a surge of appetite.

These desserts come in a wide variety of styles, most of which I've never tried before.

He had a vague feeling that he really needed to consume these novel foods.

So he stopped observing the celebrities coming and going, asked the waiter for a cup of tea, and started eating by himself.

……

About forty minutes later.

As darkness fell outside the window, all the gilded wall lamps were lit.

The banquet hall doors opened. The distinguished guests inside emerged in groups, some municipal councilors, others company directors, and began chatting and laughing in the lounge area.

Rosalind also stepped out from the crowd.

She had almost finished her work, and a smile finally appeared on her tired face.

She went straight to Wayne, sat down next to him, and let out a long sigh of relief:

"We're almost done with the busy work. Tonight's guests are all the bigwigs from the metropolis. I'll introduce them to you in detail later."

Wayne was really worried that Rosalind might collapse from exhaustion one day, so he poured her a cup of black tea.

"Sis, aren't you going to rest?"

Rosalind picked up her black tea, took a small sip, and said earnestly:

"This occasion is crucial; they are all potential contacts for your future, which will greatly benefit you in inheriting the company and expanding your business."

Inheritance of the company?

When Wayne heard about inheriting the company, he felt a sense of pressure.

He always felt that something very important was waiting for him, but he couldn't remember what it was.

However, he was certain that the matter was very important and that he had to be prepared at all times.

I don't know how long it will take to prepare; it could be a day, or it could be ten or twenty years.

Therefore, it seems unlikely that he will be able to inherit the company.

Rosalind will probably show respect...

"Well, sis, I'd like to help you out, but the company's business is booming, so it shouldn't be at the point where I have to help, right?" Wayne asked tentatively.

Rosalind sipped her black tea, looked up and asked:

"You're right, your priority right now is to enjoy university life. But if you're not going to inherit the company, what do you plan to do after graduation?"

Wei En paused, mustered his courage, and said firmly:

"I can't say exactly what I want to do, but I just want to do something different. Even though I don't know what it is right now, I'm sure that if I inherit the company, I won't have the energy to do those things."

Rosalind frowned slightly and put down her teacup.

"It's fine if you don't want to inherit the company, but you have to say something specific that you want to do."

Wayne's eyes showed sincerity, and his tone softened completely:

"Oh, sis, give me some time. I can't think of anything right now. But if I can develop in other fields, maybe I can help the family in return. You can't put all your eggs in one basket."

Seeing Wayne's attitude, Rosalind changed the subject:

"Then let me confirm one thing: did you have a girlfriend at school?"

Wayne thought Rosalind was going to pry, so he waved his hands repeatedly, trying to end the conversation:

"No, no, I absolutely don't have a girlfriend! Sis, don't worry about it..."

Rosalind smiled slightly, stood up, and said:

"It's good that you don't have a girlfriend. Wait for me a moment."

Then he turned and walked away.

Wayne watched Rosalind's figure disappear into the crowd of guests in the lounge, completely bewildered.

What is she going to do?

A moment later, Rosalind walked over with a blonde girl, a smile playing at the corners of her eyes:

"Since you haven't started dating, let me introduce you to a girl."

Rosalind pushed the blonde girl beside her in front of Wayne and introduced her:

"She and I have always gotten along very well. I never expected to meet her here today. It's a good opportunity to introduce you two. By the way, she's a graduate student at the University of Michigan, so she's your senior."

The blonde girl, wearing a preppy, fitted dress, twirled the ends of her hair with her fingers and gently raised her hand in greeting:

"Hello, Wayne, I'm Charlotte."

Wayne's lips twitched.

Rosalind is trying to introduce me to a girlfriend.

This Miss Charlotte is indeed beautiful and elegant, a campus beauty, and she looks like she comes from a wealthy family.

and.

I think I saw her somewhere in Times Square last night...

Wayne raised his hand in greeting:

"Hello, Miss Charlotte, my sister would definitely like you very much."

Charlotte raised the corners of her eyes slightly and forced a smile:

"You guessed right, I like your sister very much too."

Rosalind watched Charlotte and Wayne interact naturally, her eyes wide with surprise. She paused for a moment before continuing:

"Oh, do you two know each other? That's great! I'm an old maid now, the future belongs to you young people. You two chat for a while, I still have some business details to coordinate over there, I'll be back in a bit."

As she spoke, she gave Wei En a wink, the look probably saying: "Be sensible, hurry up and get married, then your sister can rest easy."

Wayne looked troubled: "Sis, how do I even know her? This isn't how you try to get close to someone. You're not even married yourself, why are you pressuring me to get married..."

Rosalind walked away.

Wayne began to scrutinize Miss Charlotte in front of him.

If it were any other girl his age in front of him, he would hardly give her a second glance.

After all, most girls his age were only interested in him because of his status and family background.

But he felt that Miss Charlotte was different; at least there was no flattery in her eyes, and her temperament was very special.

Most importantly, I felt a sense of familiarity with her...

Let's find out what she's made of.

With a smile in his eyes, Wei En spoke:

"Miss Charlotte, I feel like I've seen you somewhere before. It seems like we met once before, but I can't quite place where. Maybe in a dream, or maybe in a past life. Isn't fate amazing?"

Who knew?

Charlotte lunged forward, grabbed Wayne's arm, and whispered with extreme seriousness:

"Wayne, come with me quickly. Something went wrong on this mission. If we don't leave now, it will be too late."
