Cthulhu Panel: One organ mutates every day
Chapter 67 Busy Rosalind
3 PM.
Metropolitan Grand Hotel.
Hotel lobby on the first floor.
Wayne leaned against the front desk, and with a hint of joy, hung up the landline after learning that his sister Rosalind was about to land at Metropolitan Airport.
Unfortunately, I didn't have much cash on me, otherwise I would have had some time to prepare some gifts for Rosalind.
Overjoyed.
He felt a vague unease.
However, the source of this unease is unclear.
Perhaps... only seeing Rosalind can alleviate this unease.
The warm sunlight streamed into the hotel lobby, making the brass doorways gleam.
The glass ceiling of the lobby reflects sunlight, the marble floor is smooth and flat, and the people coming and going are all businessmen and politicians dressed in formal suits.
A row of black, extended Rhea limousines were parked outside the door, with waiters in black uniforms and white gloves standing on both sides, bowing and waiting for the arriving guests.
"It seems the Grand Hotel has quite a few distinguished guests today; this scene feels familiar."
Wei En stared blankly, a look of anticipation flashing in his eyes.
Two weeks ago, I attended a dinner with Rosalind at the Grand Hotel, and it was the same thing – a grand dinner, a gathering of celebrities, exactly the same.
What a coincidence.
We need to hurry and pick them up while there's still time.
Wayne beckoned to the receptionist, called over the lobby manager, showed Weber Enterprises' identification documents, and calmly gave the instructions:
"Please arrange a car to go to the airport. It's flight 369; I need to pick someone up. Remember to have some afternoon tea in the car, low-sugar kind."
"Understood, Mr. Weber, I'll arrange it right away."
The lobby manager was respectful and courteous. He recognized Wayne by looking at his identification and knew that the chairman of Weber Enterprises had indeed made arrangements to pick him up at the airport. He bowed and stepped back to make arrangements, not daring to be negligent in the slightest.
After a while.
A waiter hurried over to lead the way, and Wayne nodded and followed.
A black luxury sedan was already parked in front of the hotel, its engine humming softly.
The waiter stepped forward and steadily opened the rear door of the car.
Wei En nodded his thanks and bowed as he sat down in the back seat.
The car has a spacious interior with carpeting, leather seats, a partition between the front and rear rows, and windows that isolate it from the outside world and noise, providing a high degree of privacy.
The driver smoothly started the car and slowly drove away from the Grand Hotel.
The buildings on both sides are neat and elegant, and shops line the street, including jewelry stores, clothing stores, and gentlemen's clubs. The trams jingle and slowly travel through the streets and alleys. Pedestrians walk leisurely, with ladies wearing feathered hats and fitted long skirts, and men wearing suits, pocket watches, and canes.
Newspaper boys were already hawking the day's evening paper along the way, and the aromas of various foods mingled together.
A scene of bustling excitement is about to unfold.
"There seems to be a large-scale event tonight," Wayne said, looking out at the street scene.
The car was stopped by patrol officers for inspection at the airport's exclusive checkpoint.
Wein handed over Weber Enterprises' relevant documents and was granted passage smoothly with exclusive access privileges. The car then drove into the heart of the private airport.
The sky was vast and bright, the autumn breeze was cool, and the distant roar of a huge engine gradually faded away.
"The timing is perfect."
Wayne got out of the car and waited quietly, watching the passenger plane that had just landed in the distance.
Soon, Rosalind appeared at the hatch.
She was nearly thirty, with a tall and capable figure. Her cool-toned dark brown curly hair was styled into a low bun, and she wore a well-tailored light white wool suit with clean lines.
Her makeup was exquisite, her eyes sharp, and she exuded an air of authority. Wearing black low-heeled leather shoes, she walked steadily down the gangway, followed by two assistants carrying briefcases and light luggage.
Wayne strode forward, crossed the vast airfield, and headed towards Rosalind.
"Wayne?" Rosalind recognized Wayne from afar, her voice cold and clear.
"Sis, I've come to pick you up!"
Wayne stepped forward and gently embraced Rosalind.
The brief embrace lasted only a moment.
Rosalind took a half step back, raised her hand to adjust the Weber Corporation emblem on her chest, and without any pleasantries, asked directly:
"Why did you suddenly come to the Metropolis?"
Wayne replied with a smile, "I just missed you, so I came to see you."
Rosalind's eyes were sharp, and she said crisply and decisively:
"Did something happen at school? Is there an older sister who can help you?"
Wei En said seriously, "Really, nothing's wrong. Everything's fine at school."
Rosalind nodded slightly:
"That's good. I have a big, important event tonight, so my schedule is pretty tight. I also have a meeting to attend soon. Let's talk in the car."
Wei En turned slightly to the side, deliberately gesturing for them to proceed, and asked with concern:
"Sis, you must be tired after your long flight. Here, I asked the hotel to prepare afternoon tea for you in the car."
Rosalind, seeing his thoughtful and considerate manner, approved of his arrangement:
"Okay, let's go. Tonight's event will be attended by many important figures from the business and political circles, and we also have some business to attend to at the company."
"Okay."
Wayne turned and led Rosalind toward the black sedan at the Grand Hotel.
The accompanying assistant quickly stepped forward, opened the car door, and Rosalind nodded slightly before steadily getting into the car. Wayne followed closely behind, and one of the accompanying assistants sat in the passenger seat.
The car door closed slowly, and the sedan started moving smoothly.
Inside the car, Rosalind leaned back in the seat, looking tired, and gently rubbed her temples with her eyes closed.
Wein saw this but didn't say anything. He simply took out a cup of afternoon tea from the lunchbox.
The lunchbox contained small almond cookies, handmade mousse, and a cup of hot black tea in a thermos.
Wayne carefully placed the lunchbox on the small table inside the car and said softly:
"Sis, this is afternoon tea from the Grand Hotel. I specially asked them to make it low-sugar. Have some to tide you over and refresh yourself."
"Hmm." Rosalind slowly opened her eyes and nodded.
Not a moment later.
The front passenger assistant began to pull out a thick stack of documents, a pen between his fingers, his tone respectful yet urgent, not daring to delay for a moment:
"Chairman, there are three urgent documents, a draft cooperation agreement for the initial business coordination with Metropolis, and an order verification form for the West City warehouse. I need you to review and sign them as soon as possible."
Rosalind's weariness largely disappeared as she took the documents and quickly flipped through them.
Without looking up, she inquired about order verification and delivery delays, while highlighting key points with a pen.
The assistant quickly reported that an alternative transportation channel had been coordinated and the goods could be shipped normally the next morning. However, the other party was asking for additional compensation for delays and losses, and she needed to sign a supplementary agreement.
Rosalind flipped to the agreement's terms page, quickly scanned the clauses, frowned slightly, and immediately instructed the legal department to coordinate and clarify the boundaries of responsibility...
Wayne sat quietly beside Rosalind, watching her handle the numerous tasks without uttering a single word.
Sigh, we agreed to chat in the car, but we didn't even have time to talk.
Actually... all those contracts, collaborations, and all that messy professional jargon are exhausting to listen to.
Wayne didn't want to listen to any more company business, and seeing that Rosalind wasn't really touching her afternoon tea, he picked up his own black tea, took a sip, and turned to look out the window.
……
About half an hour later, as we were about to arrive at the Grand Hotel.
After discussing business matters with her assistant, Rosalind began to rest and enjoy some tea and snacks.
She noticed that Wayne's clothes were a bit dirty, and tried to wipe them with her hand, but couldn't get the dirt off, so she asked:
"What got your clothes wet?"
