Cthulhu Panel: One organ mutates every day

Chapter 48 Lillian in My Dream

So she really could realize she was dreaming...?

Wayne nodded, deciding to get straight to the point:

"Yeah, I think it's a dream too, but this is my second time here."

"A second time?" Lillian frowned slightly.

Wayne continued to explain:

"I tried it. If you go out of the room, you will return to the South Cemetery. In the cave under Benjamin's grave, there will be a monster made up of a swarm of rats. Only by eliminating that monster can you get out of the dream. Of course, you can also get out of the dream if you are killed by that monster, but it will hurt a bit and you will then enter a recurring dream."

The second half of the passage contains fabricated elements.

Because Wayne could only be sure that he would enter the recurring dream, while Lillian had only been accidentally pulled in by him and he couldn't be sure if she would re-enter.

But no matter what, let's try to kill that alien with Lillian's help first and get that fragment.

Since it's all a dream anyway, even if I get hurt, it won't affect reality or reflect real harm.

"A mutant made up of many rats? So you were killed by the mutant last time, and you've come back in again. And we need to go into the cemetery, get to Benjamin's grave, and wipe out the mutant?" Lillian asked.

"Yes, that's the only way we can get out. Of course, if we can't win, we can come back next time. Would you like to give it a try?" Wayne's eyes were filled with a smile.

"Great! That sounds really fun! I've never had such an interesting dream before. To actually fight aliens in a dream—that's way more exciting than regular combat training!"

When Lillian heard that a battle was coming, a hint of excitement appeared in her previously puzzled eyes.

She quickly patted herself down, but found nothing. She frowned slightly and said:

"But, Wayne, I don't have any equipment! My bomb gun and my gauntlets are gone! What do I do?"

Huh? No equipment?

Wayne was surprised that he hadn't brought Lillian's equipment into the dream.

In this nightmare, it seems that only subconscious thoughts related to people have a materializing effect, while subconscious thoughts related to equipment and weapons are ineffective.

Careless.

Although she doesn't have a bomb gun and gauntlets, Lillian has that mysterious gray flame, so she should be able to fight just the same.

"You don't have any equipment, but aren't all official investigators equipped with special abilities? I think with your skill level, you're more than capable of dealing with that mutant," Wayne said.

Lillian still frowned, seemingly checking her body from all sides before asking in confusion:

"The worse news is that, for some reason, I feel... my current strength of special abilities is less than a third of what it usually is, and my physical abilities are also..."

Wayne was taken aback again.

In other words, when Lallian entered the dream, not only were her bomb gun and gauntlets not brought in, but even her traits and physical attributes were not fully brought in.

But that's not right either. They don't have any equipment at all, but they do have special characteristics and physical attributes.

In this nightmare, there seems to be some kind of mechanism that is only related to specific people and has nothing to do with objects.

However, we don't have enough clues and information right now to figure out what the mechanism is.

We should first go out, follow the clues on the remaining pages, enter the cemetery, and confront the alien species. Perhaps then we can find more clues.

"Less than a third of the pollution characteristics, it doesn't matter, let's give it a try, maybe we can crush it in no time, anyway, we won't lose anything if we lose," Wayne said.

"What do you think the strength of that alien species is?" Lillian's eyes revealed a hint of focus and anticipation when she talked about the battle.

After recalling for a moment and noticing that Lillian did not have a reality bias measuring device on her wrist, Wayne replied:

"The reality deviation here is chaotic, so we can't measure the level of that alien species by the reality deviation. If we had to describe it by feeling, it's at least a little stronger than the C-level bloodline at Bob's house last time."

"Wow, that's good. If I still had my bomb gun and gauntlets, we could probably have even more fun together. Hmm... no, that's not right either. Fighting bare-handed is also quite interesting. It's been a long time since I've fought empty-handed..." Lillian pondered seriously.

"Uh, the bomb gun and gauntlets... are definitely gone."

Wayne fell into deep thought, then added in his mind, "If I can't deal with that mutant this time, I can bring it in next time, if you can come again."

Wait a minute, there seems to be a revolver on Howard's desk.

Wayne's eyes lit up. He walked over, picked up the revolver, and after a quick inspection, discovered that it was empty.

"What a pity."

He put down his revolver and turned to Lillian, asking, "Should we prepare in advance? See if there's anything usable in the house, like a telephone, a chair, or something."

Lillian walked around the room a few steps, finally stopping beside Wayne's bed. After thinking for a moment, she pointed to the bed and suggested:

"If it's a lot of rats, I think blankets and sheets would be more useful. You can trap them and then beat them up! That kind of battle sounds really interesting..."

That makes sense. Blankets and sheets can trap or separate some of the rats.

Wayne nodded: "Okay, then I'll get the sheets, you get the blanket, and you can take the pillow too."

"Okay, I think we can stuff some heavy things into the pillow. It should feel like a hammer when we swing it around, that would be really fun." Lillian's eyes crinkled with excitement as she pondered the novelty of the bed sheet and blanket battle.

"No problem, take apart the chair legs and some books in the office and stuff them into the pillow."

And so, Wayne and Lillian, each carrying a sheet, a blanket, and a slightly heavier pillow, walked out of Howard's office.

Opening the office door, instead of the lobby of the Black Gold Bar, one is met with a thick, crimson fog.

The moment I stepped out, the surrounding environment instantly changed, transforming into the South Cemetery.

In the distance, the tree-lined path was hidden in the red mist, the dirt road was worn with deep and shallow ruts, and the roadside was covered with weeds.

The old wooden fence in front is neatly arranged, with straight lines and even spacing, clearly defining the boundaries of the cemetery area.

In the crimson mist.

Wei En was barefoot, wearing pajamas, carrying a clean white sheet in one hand and a clean white pillow in the other. As she walked on the dirt road, she felt the stones hurting her feet.

Lillian, dressed in a formal suit, carried a white quilt in one hand and another white pillow in the other, a faint look of joy on her face.

In the dead of night, a lone man and woman, carrying bedding, went to the cemetery. Hmm... that's weird.

"Let's go, Wayne, what are we waiting for? Let those rats see how powerful our sheets and blankets are!" Lillian weighed the added weight of the pillow, her eyes gradually becoming more and more fervent.

Wayne glanced at Lillian's excited state and immediately felt a great sense of security.

Although we might not be able to defeat that "headless humanoid rat gang," the process was at least much more comfortable.

"What if we can't beat them?" Wayne asked.

"Huh? Didn't you say there would be a next time?" Lillian's lips curled up slightly.

Wayne was somewhat amused and exasperated, but what he said was indeed correct. He immediately re-sensed the location of the torn page:

"Come on, the location is right by Benjamin's grave."

The two walked along the dirt road in the cemetery, heading straight for Benjamin's grave.

During this time, Wayne used his chest cavity sac; with a deep breath, he caused a strong wind to blow, dispelling the crimson mist over the entire area. Lillian, watching with curiosity, repeatedly asked if he had special abilities.

Wayne could only cover it up with "a little trick he figured out in his dream".

In fact, sooner or later I will have to reveal my special qualities to my teammates, since there will be more life-or-death situations in the future, and hiding too much will be detrimental to cooperation.

But for now, Wayne made up an excuse, unsure whether Lillian would remember the dream when she woke up.

If she doesn't remember, then things will be easier later. If she does remember, then this excuse is still acceptable.

Of course, Wayne's main goal was to improve the progress; achieving key training results in the nightmare would result in ten times the progress.

[Breathing Lv.1 - Empty Breath] Progress 25.56%

"Not bad, it's increased by nearly 10%. Looks like I'll have to come to the nightmare a few more times to max out the rest of the progress," Wei En thought to himself.

Following the clues from the torn page, they quickly arrived at that familiar location.

Ahead lay Benjamin's dug-out grave, a large pit containing an open coffin, which was completely empty.

There is a small mound of earth dug out on the outside of the pit.

The bottom of the coffin had a dark hole leading underground.

The sense of the fragment lies in that pit that has never been descended into, deep within the cave.

"Where's the mouse? Where's the mouse?" Lillian looked around expectantly.

Wayne pointed to the cave: "Listen, they're about to come out."

A creaking sound came from deep within the cave.

Immediately afterwards, a huge gray rat with scarlet eyes ran out and made a whimpering sound, just like the crying when they dug up the grave, and rushed towards the two of them.
