Cthulhu Panel: One organ mutates every day

Chapter 47 Entering the Dream

"Why are you dreaming again?"

Wayne repeatedly confirmed that the room they were in was the underground mayor Howard's office.

However, the Black Gold Bar is located underground, and there are no windows in sight, so there is no way to make a judgment based on the view outside.

He turned his head again and saw a familiar-looking old book on the dark wooden desk.

It was a familiar old book with an indigo cover. The leather looked like the skin of some kind of creature beyond our knowledge, and the four corners were decorated with blackened bronze, gleaming with a few traces of phosphorescence.

The small seal script characters are recessed in the center of the cover:

The Seven Chapters of the Mysterious Lord's Secret Scripture.

"Why are there parts that overlap with my last dream?"

Wayne lifted the covers, preparing to get out of bed. Not seeing any slippers, he had to walk over barefoot. He picked up the book and found that it still only had a cover, with no pages inside.

The moment he touched the cover, twisted threads converged before his eyes, forming the "old panel" from Wayne's memory.

There are a few torn pages on the inside of the spine.

As before, Wayne made the same choice and went straight for her.

Instantly, I felt a strong sense of being drawn in.

The sense of attraction came from outside the Black Gold Bar, something very familiar.

The feeling remained the same: there was a torn page outside the Black Gold Bar, beckoning him there.

It can even be discerned through a mysterious intuition that the torn page it senses now is the same one as the torn page from last time.

Separated by a scarlet fog, a desolate cemetery, and a dark cave beneath the tomb.

The fragment could only be found by traversing the cemetery and entering Benjamin's tomb.

Wayne thought of the "headless humanoid rat gang".

"Last time, I opened my eyes in the Special Affairs Bureau office, and as soon as I stepped out of the room, I was in that cemetery."

"The situation is so similar now, only the room has changed."

"I open my eyes in Howard's office at the Black Gold Bar. As soon as I step out of the office, I'll be back in that cemetery, and I'll run into those red-eyed rats again."

"Does this mean I absolutely have to get my hands on that tattered page?"

"It seems this absurd rat nightmare won't end until we get that torn page."

Wayne quickly checked his pockets to make sure he was wearing pajamas and had no revolver, bullets, or crowbar.

"Wait a minute, how am I supposed to play without weapons?"

and many more.

Wayne turned his head to look again and confirmed that the extra bed in Howard's office was the same bed in his room.

The bed at the Ritz Hotel seemed completely out of place against the hardcore décor of the Black Gold Bar.

However, it is worth noting that there is a bed, a pillow, a blanket, and pajamas on her body.

These are all items that were still beside me when I was asleep.

Does this mean that when falling asleep, one can bring into their dreams the objects they directly touch or are around them?

A very reasonable inference.

The last time I fell asleep in the car, I had a revolver, a crowbar, ammunition, and even my clothes on me, so I always had weapons in my dreams last time.

When I fell asleep this time, I only had my pajamas, bed, blankets, and the reality deviation meter on my wrist. Therefore, now that I've entered the dream, I only brought these few items with me.

"Why did I bring the bed in completely this time in my dream, but not the car in the last time?"

If we had to explain dreams, they might be related to the subconscious.

Perhaps the reason I was able to bring the bed in is because, subconsciously, the bed is mine, while the reason I couldn't bring the car in is because, subconsciously, the car isn't mine.

subconscious……

Try to materialize the equipment through your consciousness.

Wayne focused his attention on recalling his equipment: mithril bullets, revolver, crowbar, but he couldn't find any of them.

"It seems that materializing equipment is out of the question, at least for now, as I can't control dreams at will."

Wei En sat back on the bed, feeling somewhat troubled.

The tattered page outside was clearly leading him out of the Black Gold Bar.

But he has no weapons, is wearing pajamas, and doesn't even have shoes. Going out would be no different from going to his death.

Are we just going to go out and die, only to wake up later?

Even though it was in a dream, dying once is still very painful. If I really die, what should I do if I still dream about it tomorrow night and it still leads me to search for the missing pages?

We still need to maintain a calm mindset and take each opportunity seriously.

Without obtaining that tattered page, this nightmare will likely continue indefinitely.

Wei En's thoughts were in turmoil as he analyzed countermeasures.

But after thinking for a long time, I really couldn't come up with any ideas. With nothing to do, I had no chance to act.

"Alas, it's a pity there was no one else in the dream. If there had been help, I would have had a chance to get the fragment."

"If Ethan were here, that would be great. His reputation as the Phoenix, combined with his top-notch skills in taking down gangsters and his extensive experience in survival, would be a great help to me."

"Even if it were Lillian, that would be fine. She's a battle nun from the Eastern Continent Empire's Disciplinary Court. With her combat skills and passion, plus her mysterious gray flames and holy prayers, she could easily help me get the fragments."

A moment of silence.

Wayne stood up, intending to go out empty-handed and barefoot in his pajamas to scout out the situation and give it another shot.

It's so grueling. Going empty-handed is bearable, but walking barefoot in that cemetery, stepping on muddy paths and hard grass, is really hard to accept.

Never mind, this time I'll brave the rats and charge straight into the cave under the tomb to see what's inside.

I hadn't walked more than a few steps.

Suddenly, a familiar female voice came from behind.

"Wayne? Where is this?"

"Huh?" Wayne quickly turned his head to look in the direction of the sound.

Next to the dark wooden desk, a strangely shaped chair had appeared out of nowhere. Sitting in the chair was a pretty red-haired woman dressed in a formal suit, looking around with a bewildered expression.

It was Lillian.

Lillian stood up from her chair, looked around, and asked cautiously and suspiciously, "Wayne, where is this? How did we get here?"

Wei En's pupils dilated violently.

How did Lillian end up here?

Is it true or false?

Could it be a hallucination?

No, it's all in a dream. The deviation from reality is fluctuating so much that whether it's real or fake doesn't seem to matter anymore.

The most important thing is whether they can help kill the rats.

Let's first confirm the differences between her and Lillian during the day, and see if she has complete memories.

"Wayne, why aren't you saying anything?" Lillian tilted her head, looking puzzled.

Wayne gazed at her, pondered for a moment, and then asked, "Lillian, I'm asking you, how did we meet, what did we go through together, when was the last time we met, and what did you do after we parted?"

This question is not difficult to answer, because it has only been three days since I transmigrated. A few words can summarize what has happened recently.

"Huh? Why are you suddenly asking these questions?" Lillian stood up straight and gently stroked her red hair.

"Yes, it relates to why we're here and our upcoming mission," Wayne said decisively.

Lillian nodded and recalled carefully:

"Oh, okay, I first met you in the logistics office, Lena was there too, I didn't know your name then... Later we went to Lake Mian and Bob's house on missions... After we came back, we went to the Silver Corridor cabaret... I also introduced you to Professor Daphne, taught you marksmanship, and met Theodore and made a bet..."

Then we went to Benjamin's house and the South Cemetery. You were contaminated, so you went back to the car to rest... I stayed at the cemetery to wait for the Fifth Division's support... Finally, I went back to the hotel to catch up on sleep. When I woke up, I went out shopping with Daphne, bought clothes, and went back to the hotel late at night. That's when I fell asleep, and that's how it is now.

Wayne listened quietly as Lillian spoke.

He realized that the Lillian in front of him seemed to be no different from the real Lillian.

Could it be... because Lillian just appeared in my mind, and under the influence of my subconscious, I pulled Lillian into my dream?

But I was thinking about Ethan and Lillian, so why did only Lillian appear and not Ethan?

Is it because Ethan is still awake at this hour?

Wayne's mind then drifted to the names and images of his other colleagues: Matthew, Lena, Daphne, Theodore...

After waiting for a while, no one appeared.

Okay, I don't quite understand the mechanism for pulling other people into the dream yet.

Wayne looked at Lillian again.

The question now is, does Lillian know that she might be in a dream right now?

"Wayne? Why aren't you saying anything? Do we have any tasks to complete now?"

Lillian glanced at the bed in the corner and thought it looked exactly like the one in the Ritz Hotel. She also noticed that Wayne was wearing pajamas, and began to think.

It's so strange. The surrounding decor is clearly that of an entertainment venue, but the hotel bed is placed here, and Wayne is still wearing pajamas. There are no slippers or other related items in sight. The scene seems to be in some kind of chaos, a very familiar kind of illogical chaos.

"We do have a mission, well... you could call it a mission. But, Lillian, where do you think you might be right now?" Wayne asked.

Lillian lowered her eyes, pursed her lips, and pondered for a moment before saying:

"Hmm... I've never been to this place before, and I don't know where this place is, but if I had to describe my overall feeling, I think... I might be dreaming."
