Summer Green Apples

Chapter 35 History Lesson

Ji Xiwen felt a little embarrassed, and waved her hands awkwardly, unsure whether to offer an explanation.

Before she could finish hesitating, her school uniform collar was tugged, followed by a force applied to her shoulder. "Go back to class first."

Chi Sui spoke in a detached tone.

Ji Xiwen breathed a sigh of relief and quickly said, "Okay."

She bypassed Meng Leran, took small steps into the teaching building, rolled up the hem of her school uniform, and walked with a light step.

The history teacher mentioned in the last class that we would be showing a 20-minute short historical video in this class.

She had been looking forward to this for a long time.

-

Wait until Ji Xiwen's figure disappeared from sight.

Chi Suicai replied casually, "I know you like me. I've rejected you many times, do you know that?"

Meng Leran's lips moved slightly, and she whispered, "I know."

"So what right do you have to question me now?" Chi Sui looked at her.

He and Meng Leran have known each other for quite a while; they were classmates in junior high and alumni in high school.

Back in junior high, most girls were rather introverted and shy, but Meng Leran was more outgoing. She was also a dancer, so she had a good temperament and got along well with the boys. Sometimes they would invite her to parties.

Chi Sui met with her quite often.

Xu Jiyang had been particularly puzzled as to why Chi Sui had refused.

Because Meng Leran is indeed beautiful. Although she is a bit spoiled and capricious, she doesn't have any bad intentions and can be easily coaxed.

There's really no reason.

If you don't like it, you just don't like it.

Chi Sui has had whatever he wanted since he was a child.

The prerequisite is that it must be something he likes.

Meng Leran felt a lump in her throat. "Can't I even ask? You avoid me every day, you won't even take the water I bring you, you're so cold to me, so why did you lend your clothes to that girl?"

"It's none of your business."

Chi Sui spoke slowly and deliberately, as if afraid she wouldn't hear him clearly, "I'll say it again, I don't like you. At most, we're just classmates. I have no obligation to answer your questions."

Tears welled up in Meng Leran's eyes. "You're so heartless."

"Good to know." Chi Sui said in a calm and unhurried tone, "I was never a good person to begin with."

After saying that, he picked up his umbrella and walked past Meng Leran into the teaching building.

……

The lights were off in Class 2's classroom, and dark clouds rolled in outside, making visibility extremely low. A black-and-white historical short film was playing on the multimedia system.

When Chi Sui pushed open the front door of the classroom, everyone looked over.

The history teacher was a woman in her early forties with a perm that looked like ramen noodles. She taught in a humorous and engaging way, and she was very friendly with her students, unlike the more serious math and language arts classes.

He was sitting on the podium looking at his phone when he heard the noise. He looked over, saw it was Chi Sui, and without saying anything, just waved and said, "Come in quickly."

Chi responded and closed the door.

He was tall and walked with a somewhat casual gait, but he had broad shoulders and no hunchback. More importantly, he had exceptionally long legs, so much so that even his uniform school trousers looked like they were custom-made, ending above his ankles and being thin and straight.

The only obvious point of movement in sight.

Ji Xiwen's gaze unconsciously drifted over there.

The air conditioner in the classroom was still on, and she huddled inside her oversized school uniform jacket, the faint fragrance lingering around her nose.

The fingertips under the sleeves silently began to clench.

After Chi sat down, he took out his history textbook from the desk drawer and then looked up at the multimedia screen in front of him.

Out of the corner of his eye, Ji Xiwen kept turning her head to look at him.

Recalling her action of smelling the scent on his clothes just now, Chi Sui's heart sank.

Until the short film ends.

As the history teacher was adjusting the PowerPoint presentation, and some students were whispering in the class, Ji Xiwen took a deep breath, mustered her courage, and asked, "Um...?"

Chi Sui instinctively gripped his history textbook, feigning composure, and asked, "What's wrong?"

"Did you explain it clearly just now?" Ji Xi asked.

Chi Sui was taken aback. "You mean downstairs?"

"Yes," Ji Xiwen said, "It seems the school beauty misunderstood just now."

Chi frowned. "Where did this school beauty come from?"

"It's that pretty girl downstairs," Ji Xiwen said. "I heard she's the school beauty."

Chi hesitated for two seconds, then said, "No explanation."

Ji Xiwen hadn't guessed this answer and looked at Chi Sui in astonishment.

Why don't you explain?

Her eyes were dark and bright. Chi coughed to cover up his embarrassment. "I have nothing to do with her, why should I explain?"

Ji Xiwen couldn't answer, and felt something was off, but couldn't quite put her finger on what was strange about it.

After history class came politics class.

Today is Friday. After political class, it's the weekend.

Near the end of the class, the teacher received a phone call and went to the hallway with her phone.

The quiet classroom instantly transformed into a noisy market.

Xu Jiyang turned his head and said, "The rain has stopped. Do you want to go out and play later?"

Chi Sui leaned lazily against the wall. "Where to?"

"I don't know, we'll see when the time comes. Anyway, you don't have anything to do at home," Xu Jiyang said.

Chi thought for two seconds and then agreed.

Xu Jiyang suddenly crossed his arms, leaned against the table, and asked in a sly tone, "So... how are things going with your adopted sister?"

Ji Xiwen's hand, which was writing in the exercise book, suddenly stopped. The tip of the pen touched the parentheses of the multiple-choice question, and a rather thick drop of ink appeared.

Chi replied vaguely, "It's fine as it is."

"What do you mean 'just so-so'?" Xu Jiyang was dissatisfied; his gossip cravings hadn't been satisfied. "By the way, how old is your adopted sister? Which school does she go to?"

Chi Sui frowned, unwilling to answer, so he chose another way to respond: "Why do you ask so many questions?"

"I was just asking," Xu Jiyang said in a low voice. "Brother, I'm doing this for your own good, after all, your dad really likes that..."

He was referring to Ji Rong.

Since Ji Rong and Chi Kai are not legally married, he can't directly call her a stepmother, otherwise Chi Sui would kick him out.

"Um... about my little girlfriend," Xu Jiyang said, "I'm just worried about you."

"A little younger than me," Chi Sui said.

"What you said is as good as saying nothing at all," Xu Jiyang rephrased, "Is it from our school?"

Chi Sui subconsciously glanced at the person next to him.

She was working on her problems with her head down, and they were the more challenging ones. Her pen moved with divine inspiration, and her neat handwriting flowed line after line.

It seems like they didn't hear it, or perhaps they didn't care.

He cleared his throat. "Yes."

This one word successfully stopped Ji Xiwen's hand from moving.

Chi Sui felt inexplicably pleased.

"Who is she? Tell me, I'll go find out what kind of person she is."

Xu Jiyang's intelligence and character are unknown, but he is extremely righteous.

"You don't need to ask, he's quite honest." Chi Sui was now in a difficult position.

"I don't believe you. Do you think I don't know you? Even if we were under the same roof, we probably wouldn't have exchanged more than a few words. How about this..."

Xu Jiyang suddenly had a brilliant idea: "Later, Li Junyu and I will go to your house to play and have dinner. We'll make sure to find out everything about your cheap sister and her character."
