Summer Green Apples

Chapter 28 Resigned to One's Fate

Ji Xiwen thought about it for a moment and felt that what the young master said made a lot of sense.

She had just transferred schools and this was her first time taking leave, so Old Cat kindly and readily approved her leave request.

Ji Rong drove to pick me up, and arrived in about twenty minutes.

Upon hearing this, Xu Jiyang felt a pang of jealousy. "When I ask for leave, I always beg for ages, but Lao Mao never approves it. He's really biased."

Chi then retorted sarcastically, "You take at least twenty days off per semester, how dare you even speak like that?"

"Pah!" Xu Jiyang cursed and turned his head away.

Ji Xiwen left the classroom early and waited at the school gate.

Ji Rong took her to the nearest hospital, where her temperature was measured at 39 degrees Celsius.

She actually developed a fever.

Ji Xiwen hadn't had a fever in a long time, which she found quite strange.

The infusion room wasn't crowded. Ji Rong looked a little tired and pinched her temples. "How can you have a fever in this heat? Is the air conditioning in your dorm set too low?"

"No, it's 26 degrees Celsius at night," Ji Xiwen said.

Not wanting Ji Rong to worry, she quickly added, "I've been taking the monthly exams these past two days, so I'm probably just too tired."

"You can choose any major you like; don't push yourself too hard."

Ji Rong offered a few words of comfort, then crossed her arms, leaned back in her chair, and stared at the medicine bottle.

She was too busy with work.

Ji Rong had no formal education. When she first came to Pingcheng to make a living, she was a country girl, rustic and unsophisticated, and couldn't even distinguish between different cosmetic brands.

Now I have these things under my thumb.

She always dresses beautifully for work, and today was no exception.

She wore a white chiffon blouse with a dark gray suit skirt and nude pointed-toe heels. She was only in her early thirties and had very well-maintained skin.

I just feel extremely tired.

Ji Xiwen whispered, "Auntie, you should also take good care of yourself."

Ji Rong smiled and said, "Don't worry, Auntie knows what's going on."

This is clearly a perfunctory remark.

Neither Ji Xiwen nor Ji Rong had a way out.

One is working like crazy, the other is studying like crazy.

……

Evening self-study session is over.

217 Dormitory.

After Luo Wenjing finished washing up, she was just about to share with Zhang Qingyan how she felt about Ji Xiwen's absence.

Suddenly I noticed there was an extra person in the dorm room.

Li Qian sat on Li Jiaojiao's stool, playing with a Rubik's Cube, and looked around.

There are four people in the dormitory. Li Jiaojiao has the most things, Zhang Qingyan and Luo Wenjing's desks are relatively messy, and Ji Xiwen has the fewest things.

Besides textbooks, there was only a bottle of Dabao (a popular Chinese skincare brand) on the table.

She seemed very curious. "Hey, where's Ji Xiwen? Did she take leave?"

right."

Li Jiaojiao added a sentence.

Li Qian said enviously, "I really want to go home too."

Zhang Qingyan was engrossed in playing on her phone and ignored her.

Luo Wenjing just smiled.

Li Jiaojiao said, "It'll be here soon, almost the weekend."

Li Qian turned the Rubik's Cube, then looked at Luo Wenjing with a smile, "Jingjing, are you familiar with Ji Xiwen?"

Luo Wenjing was taken aback. "Why do you ask that?"

"It's nothing. I'm just curious where she lives. If it's too far, won't she have to get up very early the next day?" Li Qian smiled.

Luo Wenjing: "It shouldn't be too far..."

Zhang Qingyan suddenly said, "Wenjing, come and look at something."

The conversation was interrupted.

The smile on Li Qian's face slowly froze.

……

Ji Xiwen's fever subsided in the middle of the night.

When she was woken up by the alarm clock the next day, she quickly got up and took a shower.

I sweated a lot last night.

The restaurant downstairs.

Chi entered the restaurant, feeling drowsy.

Ji Rong hadn't gotten up yet; Chi Kai and Ji Xiwen were sitting at the dining table.

When Chi Sui caught sight of Ji Xiwen, he was still a little dazed and asked in surprise, "What are you doing here?"

"what?"

Ji Xiwen paused in her porridge-drinking motion. "Didn't I take the day off last night?"

"I forgot."

The man responded arrogantly, took the freshly squeezed fruit and vegetable juice from Aunt Chen's hand, took a sip while tilting his head back, and then dragged out a chair.

Chi Kai, dressed in his usual suit, glanced at the time on his watch and said, "Take your sister to school later, okay?"

Chi Sui lazily hummed in agreement.

After breakfast, Ji Xiwen sat in the same car with Chi Sui for the first time.

She initially felt a little embarrassed and racked her brains for topics to talk about, only to find that she had been overthinking it.

As soon as Chi Sui got in the car, he put on his Bluetooth headset, listened to something, and then closed his eyes.

Ji Xiwen wisely kept quiet.

They drove in silence toward Pingzhong.

When they were still a street away from the entrance of Pingzhong High School, Chi Sui suddenly signaled the driver to stop.

After the car stopped, his dark eyes fell on Ji Xiwen. "You can get out now."

Ji Xiwen paused for a moment, then quickly nodded, "Okay."

Without asking any further questions, she grabbed her bag, opened the car door, and got out.

As the car door closed, a gust of hot air blew in.

The explanation for the second half of Chi Sui's sentence remained stuck in his throat.

The wisps of hair on her forehead were blown up by the hot wind.

Chi Sui thought to himself, his adopted sister is really quite submissive.

It seems that no matter how you treat her, she can accept it and manage her emotions well.

He lacks a sense of self-righteousness in everything he does.

He and Chi Sui have completely opposite personalities.

From birth, Chi Sui didn't know what it meant to know when to stop or to be docile and obedient.

He was unruly and arrogant.

……

The first lesson was Chinese.

The Chinese teacher's surname is Li and given name is Li. She is a petite female teacher who wears black-rimmed glasses, carries a stack of test papers in her hand, has her long hair half draped over her back, and has curved eyebrows and eyes. She looks gentle and scholarly.

But all her students who knew her well knew that this was all an act.

She gently pushed up her glasses. "I really feel sorry for you all..."

Her voice was very soft, but it carried throughout the entire classroom like a bee.

Xu Jiyang visibly shuddered.

Ji Xiwen happened to notice.

A distinct look of confusion flashed in his eyes.

The next second, her question was answered.

"I can't even believe I got such a shameful score, right—" She changed the subject and looked at Xu Jiyang, "Xu Jiyang, 97 points, that's incredibly embarrassing."

She suddenly glared at me with a knife-like look, "Come up and collect your grades."

Xu Jiyang: "Alright!"

He stood up, saluted, and then, looking pale, went up to the podium to retrieve his Chinese language test paper with a score of 97.

Li Li always liked to hand out the test papers starting with the lowest score.

After handing out half of the papers, Li Li said, "This test was indeed a bit difficult, but two students in our class still scored above 135."

As soon as he said that...

The students immediately began whispering among themselves.

Xu Jiyang turned to look at Chi Sui, "Brother, you're awesome. This test was so difficult, and you still managed to score so high."

"Get lost." Chi Sui ignored him.
