Summer Green Apples

Chapter 26 Monthly Exam

He looked like he'd just eaten spoiled food. "I really hate it when you academic high-achievers say things like that."

Ji Xiwen noticed the word "also" in his words and looked at Chi Sui, "You also chose D?"

"uh-huh."

Chi then responded.

He was holding a pen and twirling it around in his hand.

After the exam, the class was basically divided into two types of people: one type complained to those around them that the questions were too obscure and too difficult, and the other type was frantically looking for someone to check their answers with.

Chi Sui was the calmest, with a comic book casually placed on the table.

He twirled the pen while looking down at the comic book.

Seemingly sensing something was amiss, he looked up and glanced at Ji Xiwen again.

Ji Xiwen had already lowered her head to work on her math problems.

She sometimes wears her hair down when she's at home on weekends, but on school days she usually wears it in a high ponytail. She takes exams all day long, and the humanities subjects have a lot of words, which is very grueling.

Her ponytail looked a bit listless, and there were quite a few stray hairs around her earlobes.

Her skin was a warm-toned white, with only a faint blush on her cheeks.

"Ji Xiwen," he couldn't help but call out.

Ji Xiwen continued writing a formula without stopping, then looked up at him. "What's wrong?"

It can also multitask.

Your face is a little red...

Chi Sui frowned. Not good at expressing concern, he swallowed the question, "Are you sick?" and instead asked, "Did you put on too much foundation?"

"No, my face always gets pretty red during exams, I don't know why." Ji Xiwen raised her hand to touch her cheek, but her attention was elsewhere. "Isn't foundation white? Can foundation make you look red?"

She looked bewildered because she had never worn makeup before and knew nothing about cosmetics.

Chi Sui was also stunned, staring blankly at her. "If you don't know, then I know even less."

Xu Jiyang turned his head to call Chi Sui to go out for lunch, but when he caught sight of the two gazing deeply into each other's eyes, he paused, "You two... have you hit it off?"

He was always glib and talkative, and students of that age always liked to tease each other.

Upon hearing this, the two people at the table behind him immediately looked away.

One stared down at the math exam paper, while the other glared coldly at Xu Jiyang. "I really feel sorry for your brain; it's nothing but water."

Xu Jiyang: "..."

Sui Yu, who was listening in, chuckled to herself.

Li Junyu walked over from the front row of the classroom and stopped at Sui Yu's desk, wearing a black sun-protective shirt.

As he bent down to put on his clothes, he said, "Let's go out for dinner."

"Here it comes." Xu Jiyang jumped up, lost his balance, and bumped into Sui Yu.

Sui Yu herself was very thin, and when she was bumped by this tall and strong guy, her eyes widened and she was almost thrown off.

When Ji Xiwen caught a glimpse of this scene out of the corner of her eye, her heart skipped a beat.

The word "be careful" was about to slip out.

A thin hand pressed against Sui Yu's shoulder.

The owner of the hand was wearing silver-rimmed glasses, probably with a low prescription, just a thin layer, and whispered, "Be careful."

He raised his head again and scolded Xu Jiyang: "Brother, you really need to go to the hospital to get your cerebellum checked."

"I'm sorry, my deskmate!"

Xu Jiyang quickly apologized.

Sui Yu, who usually liked to criticize him, casually let it go this time, saying, "It's nothing, it's nothing."

She leaned forward a little and scratched her arm a little awkwardly.

Xu Jiyang paused for a moment, said "Oh," and left.

Once outside the classroom, he glanced at Li Junyu with suspicion.

Li Junyu lowered her head and zipped up her pants. "Tell me, what are you trying to do, staring at me like that?"

"Does Suiyu have a crush on you? Her ears were so red just now," Xu Jiyang said, scratching his hair.

"I haven't had much contact with her," Li Junyu said casually. "I guess she was scared by you."

During this time, Chi Sui remained unusually quiet, looking down at his phone.

Xu Jiyang nudged him with his elbow. "What are you looking at?"

Chi Sui was a beat slow to respond, "I'm searching whether the foundation is white or red."

Xu Jiyang and Li Junyu were both stunned.

Xu Jiyang asked from the bottom of his heart, "Are you a pervert?"

……

After the exam, everyone went to eat.

Ji Xiwen wasn't very hungry, but thinking about the three evening self-study sessions, she went to the cafeteria with Zhang Qingyan and Luo Wenjing to buy a wrap.

On the way, Luo Wenjing sighed, "How difficult do you guys think this exam was?"

Zhang Qingyan glanced at Ji Xiwen.

Ji Xiwen thought it was quite simple, but seeing Luo Wenjing's expression, she revised her words: "I think it's alright, not too difficult."

Zhang Qingyan said, "The other subjects are okay, but geography is quite difficult."

"Besides Chinese and English, everything else is so difficult for me," Luo Wenjing said through gritted teeth, on the verge of tears. "Tomorrow is my death day."

Ji Xiwen was a little taken aback. "Tomorrow? Why tomorrow?"

"Because the teachers at our school are all incredibly demanding, they'll probably finish grading tonight. Tomorrow's first class is Chinese, and they'll probably hand out the test papers right away. The grade-wide rankings, including those who improved and those who regressed, will be released before evening self-study."

Luo Wenjing sighed deeply. "The report cards will also be sent to the parents' phones. Our school has an app that records the students' scores for every exam, and each time there will be comments from the teachers of each subject. Only the parents can see it."

Ji Xiwen: "…………"

Her fingertips, suspended in mid-air, felt a little cold.

On second thought, I figured only Ji Rong would download this app.

She let out a soft sigh of relief. "How perverted."

"It's so twisted. I shouldn't have listened to those rumors during the high school entrance exam," Luo Wenjing said indignantly. "Pingzhong is quite far from my home, so I thought that living at school would keep me away from my mom. Who knew that in my first year of high school, the school leaders would suddenly have someone develop this thing... What a tragedy..."

After buying food and returning to the classroom, Ji Xiwen felt a little sleepy and took a nap on the table.

……

At a small restaurant outside the school.

Li Junyu took out her phone and glanced at it. "Class is about to start, Xu Jiyang, stop eating."

"Get lost! Those teachers are probably grading papers like crazy tonight, what's with the rush?"

Xu Jiyang nudged Li Junyu's arm with his elbow in dissatisfaction.

He Ran chuckled, "Hehe, neither Kai Ge nor I are in a hurry. We can just sign in at the dorm tonight."

Cui Kai chuckled twice, unscrewed the cap of his iced cola, took a sip, and turned his gaze to the person opposite him.

He was the quietest one, looking down at his phone. From this angle, his jawline was clearly defined.

"Chi Sui, did you take the wrong medicine today? Why are you so quiet?" Cui Kai scolded.

"Don't bother me, I'm doing my research," Chi Sui said earnestly.

Cui Kai was stunned for a moment. "No way, we have to study while eating?"

He Ran sighed twice, "No wonder Young Master Chi always gets first place in exams."
