Farming Life Starting in Africa

Chapter 58 Arrival at the Port

"Uller..." The old man chewed on those words, squinting his eyes.

After a while, he turned around, waved to the cars behind him, and suddenly raised his voice, with an undeniable air of authority: "Everyone get on the cars, to Uller!"

The Asian man hesitated for a moment, then quickly leaned closer, "Big Daddy, the garrison in Uller has increased significantly recently. Should we just go straight there—"

Before he could finish speaking, the old man's gaze swept over him, his eyes icy cold, as if he were looking at a corpse. The Asian man swallowed the rest of his words, his Adam's apple bobbing, and he obediently nodded before turning to walk towards the car.

Uller's side.

The city was busy evacuating its citizens. The consulate had brought dozens of buses from the dam construction site in the west and from Ivia. They were parked one after another at the assembly point, and there wasn't even time to put up evacuation signs on the buses. The overseas Chinese were getting on the buses with their families.

However, not all the embassy staff were evacuated; some remained in the city, where government soldiers with live ammunition stood guard.

Those who stayed behind did so not for any other reason than that a group of overseas Chinese had been kidnapped and had not been rescued, and they had to wait here for news.

If you had to pick someone who's feeling the worst right now, it would definitely be Qian Bida.

This guy stood in front of his supermarket, his expression more bitter than if he'd eaten a bitter melon. He was practically having a "tearful clearance sale" today, but it still benefited his cronies, Fahad.

Normally, this batch of goods would fetch at least 300,000 US dollars. Although Uller is a poor place, things in Chinese supermarkets are hard currency, especially now that there's war and chaos, so prices can be raised at will.

Fahd paid less than 200,000 and bought the whole lot of goods.

To be honest, it was only because of Rosen's influence that Fahad raised the price to 200,000. Otherwise, he would have been lucky to get 100,000.

However, Qian Bida's goods were already extremely profitable; even a 50% discount would make him a considerable profit. But in his eyes, making less profit was a huge loss.

Unfortunately, Qian Bida miscalculated that the situation in Uller would deteriorate so quickly. The government forces had received information that the Red Turban Army was plotting to completely occupy Uller. They had hired a large number of mercenaries, and a batch of weapons, likely left behind by Colonel Ka, had secretly fallen into the hands of the Red Turban Army.

Uller has already requested assistance from neighboring Ivia. The government has gathered all the soldiers from the surrounding smaller towns and recalled them to Uller, where the garrison has now reached more than 500 men.

On the territory of the Steel Army, the dilapidated bus finally managed to drive back. Hassud stood at the mine entrance, his face extremely grim as he looked at the bus parked alone beside him.

As soon as the car came to a stop, Hassud rushed forward, yanked open the driver's side door, grabbed the driver by the collar, and pulled him halfway out of the seat. "What happened? Where is everyone else?" His eyes flashed with ferocity, and several of his young henchmen beside him involuntarily took a half step back.

The driver's legs were trembling. "We...we were attacked on our way back, and I got separated from the others..." He spoke haltingly, his tongue seemingly tied in knots, his eyes fixed on Hassud's empty hand, as if afraid that hand would suddenly reach for the gun at his waist.

Hassud glanced around the carriage; a dozen or so male prisoners were crammed into the seats, their faces covered in dust, their eyes filled with fear and confusion. He snorted viciously, shoving the driver aside. "Lock them up. Make them write home. Triple the ransom."

At this moment, Sai walked up from behind, leaned close to Hasud's ear, and whispered, "I've received news that the Red Turban Army is preparing to make their move—before reinforcements from Ivia arrive, they're going to launch a general offensive and take Uller in one fell swoop."

Hassud narrowed his eyes and curled his lips downwards. He had indeed suffered a loss in this raid on Ullr; not only had he lost a lot of men, but the little he brought back wasn't even enough to pay his brothers' compensation.

He remained silent for a long while, his fingers tapping unconsciously on his belt. The sun shone on the back of his neck, and beads of sweat trickled down his hairline.

"I'll go get some more weapons in the next couple of days," he finally spoke, his voice hoarse. "When the Red Turban Army attacks Uller, we'll rush in with them, bringing several large carts to haul back all the valuables—burn everything we can't take. We can't leave them anything."

Sai frowned, hesitated for a moment, and then said, "That would completely offend the Red Turban Army."

The Red Turban Army spent so much money attacking Uller, aiming for the entire territory and driving the government forces north. They had no intention of occupying a burnt-out wasteland. What they did was like stealing meat from someone else's bowl while spitting into the pot.

"The Ban people are not to be trusted." Hasud sneered, revealing a few teeth stained yellow by smoke. "Just wait and see. Once they're beaten down by the people from Ivia, won't they be begging us for help?"

Sai didn't reply, but the expression on his face betrayed his thoughts.

With their current manpower, getting involved in a fight against Ivia? That's not helping, that's sending them to their deaths. Even if they come to you, what benefit will you get? Not even enough to fill a tooth gap.

Hassud saw through it, chuckled, and patted Sai on the shoulder, making Sai's shoulder slump down.

"Who said we were going to send anyone? My brother Said is already preparing to make some trouble in Ivia. As soon as they start causing trouble there, the Ivia army will have to withdraw."

Sai paused for a moment, then nodded, a smile finally appearing on his face.

The port of Santa Matasava is now in complete chaos.

The dock was packed with cars, and there were many foreign ships and warships on the outer harbor, their colorful flags fluttering in the wind, but none of them were willing to dock to pick up passengers. They could only watch helplessly as the crowds on the dock thronged the area.

Meanwhile, the domestic ships and warships were making trips to the dock, and the registration and boarding process was proceeding in an orderly manner.

The docks were crowded with people of all races. Most of them were cursing their country's army and embassy for their inaction, creating a chaotic scene like a marketplace.

On the other side, Chinese people lined up and registered one after another in an unbelievably orderly manner. Compared to the scene next to them, it was as if they were from different worlds, and the sense of separation was so strong that it was surreal.

When Rosen and his group arrived at the port of Santa Matasava, Leng Feng's car was stopped at the entrance. There was no way around it; with that thing mounted on the roof, no one in their right mind would let him in.
