Chapter 55 Surprise Attack
Rosen squinted at the two guards for a moment, then shook his head, his tone certain, "Something's not right. Those two shouldn't be government soldiers."
"Um?"
"The government troops here stand like lumps of mud. Look at these two, their posture is clearly well-trained, they're definitely not government soldiers." Rosen tapped his fingers twice on the steering wheel. "Looks like those bandits are wearing government uniforms."
Leng Feng frowned. "Are you so sure? What do we do then?"
He surveyed the surrounding terrain. There was a large slope at the main entrance of the hospital, presumably to facilitate pushing wheelchairs and hospital beds. He couldn't see the situation in the courtyard very clearly, and he didn't see anyone in the windows upstairs.
Rosen turned the steering wheel, swerved the car, and slipped into the hospital through a side road next to the main entrance. "Let's assess the situation first, don't rush in."
The two government soldiers standing guard at the gate immediately became alert, their eyes following the car's rear end like searchlights.
The two walked around the hospital. When they reached the back building, they noticed a small earthen mound in the corner. The soil was still wet, indicating it had been recently piled up. This mound was right next to the glass curtain wall on the second floor of the hospital.
Rosen parked the car in an inconspicuous spot on the side of the mound, and he and Leng Feng, carrying rifles, crouched down and darted to the glass wall. They peeked inside and saw that the hall was in such a mess that it looked like a market that had just been ransacked.
A group of doctors and nurses were squatting on the ground, with a dozen or so locals nearby, all trembling with their heads in their hands. Around them stood a dozen or so black men carrying guns, all wearing red scarves around their necks—their attire was unmistakably that of the Red Turban Army.
Zhuo Weixi and Rachel squatted in the middle of the crowd, protecting a young Black girl in their arms.
Leng Feng squinted and scanned the area inside, then asked in a low voice, "Have you seen the target?"
Rosen gestured with his chin toward the two most eye-catching girls in the crowd, "Aren't they the most conspicuous girls?"
Leng Feng, lacking a sense of humor, frowned and said, "This is going to be difficult; there are too many people."
Rosen sighed as well. "What can we do? If we don't go in, they'll most likely die here. The Red Turban Army doesn't want hostages, so they might not leave any survivors."
Actually, this is all Rosen's nonsense. Under normal circumstances, the Red Turban Army wouldn't dare to attack foreigners; they want to gain international recognition after rising to power. This was definitely done by those mercenaries.
Leng Feng looked down and touched his clothes. Aside from being a bit sweaty and thick, it really didn't look like a bulletproof vest. He pinched the hem of his shirt. "Can this thing really stop rifle bullets?"
Rosen laughed, "I should have let you try it on the way here."
Seeing Leng Feng's dark expression, Rosen found it rather boring and continued, "As long as you don't get shot in the chest, it's not a big problem."
Leng Feng's eyes flickered. Since the clothes were so useful, he could just charge in and go on a rampage!
"Shall we just charge in?"
Rosen gave him a look as if he were crazy. "How does your unit handle this kind of situation?"
Leng Feng scratched his head helplessly. "There's no such thing as a mission in the army where 'two people rescue dozens of hostages from a dozen bandits'—that's called suicide, not a mission. By the way, how's your marksmanship?"
Rosen grinned in a way that seemed particularly irritating. "I'm probably a bit better than you. Within two hundred meters, I can hit anything I point at."
"You're just bragging, aren't you?" Leng Feng didn't believe it at all. He could tell from Rosen's gun-holding posture that he wasn't from the military at all. If he hadn't been sure that Rosen had the safety off, Leng Feng wouldn't have wanted to be his teammate.
"Let's have a competition after this is all over," Rosen said without arguing.
As soon as he finished speaking, several mercenaries came down from upstairs, dressed in a completely different style from the Red Turban Army.
Tactical vest, quick-draw holster, walkie-talkie headset—it looks like a professional outfit.
Leng Feng stared at the stairwell for a while, pondering, "This is going to be difficult. There might still be people upstairs. Here's what we'll do—you go upstairs and make some noise to distract some people, and I'll rush in and try. With this outfit as backup, things should be much easier."
"Make a scene?" Rosen raised an eyebrow. "No need for that."
After saying that, he turned around and went back to his car. He took out a time-travel drone from his bag, with a bomb that looked like a small pumpkin hanging from the bottom. Rosen had stuffed 300 grams of TNT inside.
Leng Feng stared at the uniquely designed contraption, his lips twitching. "How powerful... is this?"
Rosen thought for a moment, then said quite seriously, "If placed in the right spot, it can easily collapse a wall. But if it explodes inside the office... there probably won't be anyone alive inside."
"Don't you have any normal bombs?"
"This is the minimum power," Rosen said innocently. "Don't worry, I'll find an empty house to blow it up."
Leng Feng rolled his eyes. Rosen's armory was overflowing with firepower; it was utterly insane.
Seeing that he had no further objections, Rosen launched the drone. With a soft buzzing sound, the little plane, like a nimble bee, darted to the west corner of the second floor. There happened to be an open window in a room, and it darted inside.
Rosen glanced at the screen—wow, nice environment, genuine leather sofa, mahogany desk, probably some leader's private residence.
After confirming that no one was around, Rosen pressed the detonation button.
boom--!
The entire building shook violently, and the window frame and glass of that unfortunate room flew out, as if kicked by a giant. Shards shattered and littered the floor, while dust billowed from the window.
The building erupted in chaos, filled with screams and footsteps. Then, an Asian-looking mercenary led two Red Turban Army soldiers upstairs in haste.
Leng Feng observed the commotion inside the room, and only after some of the Red Turban Army soldiers upstairs had been transferred away did he speak: "When we rush in, I'll take the west side of the hall, and you take the east side. Any problems?"
Rosen glanced around—there were only three people on the east side, with most of the firepower concentrated on the west. He shrugged indifferently, "No problem." Leng Feng was a protagonist with a protagonist's aura, so he didn't need to worry about his safety. Besides, with Rosen's bulletproof vest on him, as long as he wasn't too weak, he wouldn't even get a scratch.
After waiting for about a minute, the footsteps from upstairs checking the situation faded into the distance. The two men exchanged a glance and simultaneously slammed into the glass wall.
Whoosh—!
Glass shattered on the ground. Rosen landed and rolled, kneeling on one knee, gun already raised.
Da da da!
Before the three black Red Turban soldiers on the east side could react, they were shot down by AK74 bullets, like crops that had been cut down.
Behind him came a series of bangs. Rosen looked back and saw that Leng Feng's side was even more ferocious—four had already been taken down. The remaining two white mercenaries reacted faster, not bothering to grab their rifles, but simply pounced on the ground and hurriedly hid behind a thick load-bearing pillar like turtles.
